WHAT ABOUT ICEBORNE?
Iceborne invalidates this set considerably. If you want an identical set, use the same items (except replace the pitfall trap for Honey so you can make mega potions out of your normal potions when your preset megas run out). Then get the (monster spoilers) Brute Tigrex/Tigrex armor depending on whether or not you want earplugs. Couple it with the Gold Rathian armor to get max divine blessing and you can become a godly heal tank that literally never dies. You may need to gem in speed eating, however. Iceborne also allows you to max out a wide range charm fairly early, so keep an eye out for that. The beta versions of each armor allows for extreme freedom with skill choice.
But Why?
I'm just going to say it. Wide-range is the best co-op skill in the game.

Imagine being able to fully heal as you lay face-down in the dirt while the monster readies to attack you, or being able to ignore any blights or poison damage with zero repercussions on yourself. Better yet, just imagine having a rare and expensive item like a dash extract or mega nutrients being used completely free and spread to your entire team, just because somebody decided to drink it...

...Now keep dreaming, because you're not the one who's going to get that effect, it's your teammates. Wide-range lets you use almost any consumable item and spread it to all of your teammates. This effectively turns you into a support character. But the beauty of wide-range comes from the fact that it works with any weapon which doesn't require specific skills to be effective (such as gunner weapons).

This guide will show you how to make an effective, unstoppable high rank wide-range set which will trivialize almost any monster fight and make your entire team fall in love with you.
The Equipment
I'll get to the armor pieces in a second, but yes, there are alternatives to this set which can give you the same important skills such as quick sheath and speed eating, but the added skills are either incomplete or missing. Thus after pretty extensive theorizing, this is the most effective set I've found which gives you all the necessary bonuses. As a plus, it also looks really silly without appearing as the blatant clown suit it is.

Some things worth noting:

WEAPON

Use whatever, as long as you're fine sacrificing weapon-specific skills for this set. I prefer the bowgun since it doesn't require many skills to be effective and you're rarely in any immediate danger, but this set works with anything.

Sword and Shield also nullifies the point of quick sheath, since you can use items with it drawn. If you're a Sword and Shield user, you can easily swap out the Sheath Charm for any skill you want!

EQUIPMENT

You get two equipment slots after beating the game. I prefer the Cleanser Booster (which removes statuses) and Affinity Booster (which increases critical hit chance) so you and your teammates can get the effects. A health booster isn't necessary since you're effectively a walking health dispenser anyway.

But any kind of equipment you have available works, it's up to preference.

HEAD

Uhh...?

What? It's one of the few items which gives wide-range +2. You unlock this by doing the event quest, "Wiggle Me This." If it isn't in your event quest list, you'll need to check back every week until it is. Otherwise, you'll have to settle with trying to gem the skill in. If push comes to shove, you can always swap in a wide-range (or "friendship") charm if your weapon has a quick sheath animation.

CHEST

HOW TO GET

You can find this by fighting the pickle monster Deviljho. The B version works as well, if you want the handicraft skill instead of a large gem slot. Make sure to only use the TziTzi Coil with this!

HOW TO GET

You can find this by doing either The White Winds of the New World, The Sapphire Star's Guidance, or New World Sky, New World Flower. All of these quests are very difficult, but they'll give you a very effective chest piece. If you can't do it, swap to using the TziTzi Coil and Vangris Mail instead. Make sure to only use the Jagras Coil with this!

ARMS

HOW TO GET

You unlock this by fighting the lavasioth, the lava fish in Elder's Recess. A gajau is the weird fish small monster found in the Wildspire Waste, by the way.

WAIST

HOW TO GET

Fight that stupid dinosaur that sounds like a chicken. Make sure to only use the Vangris Mail with this!

HOW TO GET

You mean you never fought a great jagras before...? Make sure to only use the Comission Jacket with this!

LEGS

HOW TO GET

The only way to find this is through the gluttonous speed-eater himself, the deviljho.

CHARM

HOW TO GET

You unlock this the first time you fight a high-rank diablos. When you upgrade this, you'll eventually need a bazelgeuse gem, so keep that it mind and maybe save your golden wyverian tickets.

If you're using Sword and Shield or a weapon with a fast sheathing animation with this set, you can skip this charm and use any other skill you want!
The Skills

WIDE-RANGE

Effect: Spreads the effects of certain consumables to nearby teammates. Effectiveness of items and range increases with level.

Why?: This is why you're even using this set, dummy. Almost anything you eat or drink, especially healing items, will spread to your teammates, giving you the effectiveness of four items from the use of a single one.

Quick Sheath

Effect: Heavily increases the speed at which you sheath your weapon.

Why?: You need to often heal your teammates in an emergency, so it's very important to be able to quickly sheath your weapon to drink potions and buff them.

If you're using Sword and Shield or a weapon with a quick sheath already (like the Light Bowgun), you can forgo this skill entirely as you can use items while drawn, so feel free to swap out the equipment pieces which give quick sheath if you do.

Speed Eating

Effect: Greatly increases the speed at which you eat consumables.

Why?: You'll be drinking potions and eating items non-stop, so being able to do so quickly goes a long way. In addition to this, potions will heal at a much faster rate (so fast that the game doesn't properly update the HUD when you heal teammates with it--but trust me, they're being instantly healed).

Fortify

Effect: Increases attack and defense by 15% when you die.

Why?: A side-effect of this set if you use the Comission Jacket + Jagras Coil, Fortify doesn't hurt to have.

Free Meal

Effect: Gives a 25% chance to not use a consumable when it is used.

Why?: With how many items you'll be using, it's very helpful to have a chance to not expend them every once in a while. This is the only skill you'll need to gem in, but it's a common drop and you only need one.

Affinity Sliding

Effect: Increases affinity (crit chance) by 30% after sliding.

Why?: Another tacked-on skill due to the set, Affinity Sliding still doesn't hurt to have.

Handicraft

Effect: Increases sharpness of your weapon.

Why?: A skill you can optionally have if you go with the Vangris Mail A + TziTzi coil combo, it's a useful skill for any weapon...except ranged. Otherwise you'll want to go with Vangris Mail B for the extra gem slot.

Water Attack

Effect: Increase damage of water-based attacks and weapons.

Why?: A side effect if you go with the Vangris Mail + TziTzi coil combo, it's...just kinda there. If you have a water weapon, great! Some of the more dangerous enemies are weak to (or at least don't resist) water. Otherwise don't bother putting much thought into this skill.
Why Not Mushroomancer?
This question comes up often, and it's worth addressing. The following is what is affected by Mushroomancer:

  • Blue Mushroom (acts as a small potion)
  • Toadstool (acts as an immunizer)
  • Nitroshroom (acts as a demondrug)
  • Parashroom (acts as an armorskin)
  • Mandragora (acts as a max potion--does not work with wide-range)
  • Devil's Blight - (acts as a dash juice)

You can absolutely gem in Mushroomancer (don't), but all you could feasibly replace are potions and dash juices (or max potions for yourself). Here's why:

Immunizer

Immunizer isn't as effective as simply healing people, and isn't worth the wasted item slot.

Armorskin/Demondrug

Armorskin and Demondrug do last until the user faints, but it's a pitiful 3% bonus and only feasible if might berries and adamant berries are in short supply (with both berries adding a more substatial 6% power boost for 3 minutes--but you can carry 10 of them).

Max Potions

Max Potions do not spread via wide-range, although you will have max potions for yourself.

If you conveniently have three mushroomancer gems, you can use them to lighten the load on your supply chest, but the items they replace are easy to manufacture or aren't worth using, and the gem slots are better off being filled with something else.

The best way to see mushroomancer is this: you can replicate mushroomancer with the items it's meant to replace, but you can't use items to replicate a useful skill like maximum blight resistance.
Gems/Decorations
All you need is a free meal (or "satiated") gem. It's a fairly common drop since it's considered a pretty low-tier gem, so it shouldn't be hard to find. All you need after that is to gem in whatever you have available, since all the other skills you need should come with the armor set.

Because of the sheer number of gem slots this build has, it's completely viable for you to swap out any skills you can gem in for different equipment.
What Items Should I Bring?
Items Which Work With Wide-Range

  • Potions and Mega Potions
  • Antidotes and Herbal Medicines
  • Nulberries
  • Energy Drink/Rations/Well Done Steak
  • Cool Drinks
  • Nutrients/Mega Nutrients
  • Adamant Seed and Might Seed
  • Demondrug and Armorskin, and their mega variants
  • Immunizer
  • Astera Jerky
  • Dash Juice
  • Might Pill and Adamant Pill

What To Bring

From left to right, the items are:

Potion, Mega Potion, Max Potion, Ancient Potion, Herbal Medicine, Nullberry, Ration, Cool Drink...

Dash Juice, Might Seed, Adamant Seed, Lifepowder, Herbal Powder, Demon Powder, Armor Powder, Flash Pod...

Dung Pod, Mega Barrel Bomb, Pitfall Trap, Shock Trap, Power Charm, Power Talon, Armor Charm, Armor Talon.

Items which work with wide-range are bold.

Things To Note

Max Potions aren't affected by wide-range, but Nutrients are. However, most players carry a Max Potion or Nutrients in preparation for when they die (as should you), and will use them immediately after being carted. There's no point in carrying Nutrients over Max Potions unless you're carrying for unskilled or underprepared teammates.

Nullberries work on almost any blight, like blast blight, fireblight, waterblight, or effluvia when fighting the Vaal Hazak (the Rotten Vale's elder dragon).

Dash Juice is very useful for stamina-heavy weapons, so especially use it when you have a teammate equipped with dual blades or a bow.

Might/Adamant Seeds stack with Armor Powder and Demon Powder, and all four last three minutes and add 15% to attack and defense when all four are used in total. Powders add 9% and each seed adds 6%. Use all four once per engagement, then save it for when the monster flees and you catch up to it again.

Herbal Medicine effectively works the same as Herbal Powder with wide-range, as does Life Powder when compared to potions, so prioritize using Herbal Medicines first since they can be consumed faster.

You can organize your items by going here on your item pouch menu:

And make sure you use your radial menu. My radial menu looks like this whenever I'm running wide-range since these are the most commonly used items:

Make sure you register your item set and you're all ready for helping your teammates succeed with effective support. The effects of this set are wonderful, so it's definitely worth the setup!

@Janx Moltar Use Tigrex armor + Wide range in Iceborne. Also slap on speed eating if you don't have it. Good end game build is to mix and match (monster spoilers) Brute Tigrex/Tigrex/Gold Rathian for a healer/tank build.

Looks like this skill combo still works and is only "healer" build I can find. However, I haven't found anything about this concept in such format, as this, for Iceborn DLC. There are some vids on super self healing. Would be great if author could compile this skill set for "new" DLC.

By the way, basically you need quick eating+wide-range for this to work. My friends are bad at keeping themselves alive, so I just took best armor for deco slots, and got necessary skills and went my way with my favorite weapon (switchaxe).

Immunizers are good shit but mushroomancer isn't worth the skill points. (MM is masturbatory, it's good for keeping a basic cheap item loadout that's easy to resupply on the fly in the field.)

Sushifish you left out sushifish, You eat it in one bite it heals like a small potion and cures bleeding. Great for pinch flash healing.

The Garden: Apply a different fertilzer every time you come back to town and use Soft Soil to extend all their timers before they expire, Once you have everything kind of fertilizer going you can just hit it with soft soil every 4 or 5 hunts.

OH and God Bugs, you can drop the powders and just take god bugs and make the powders on the fly.

P.S. it'll overright the might seed but you can eat a might pill as you fall, after finishing a mount.

You're just talking past me, now. Just how as before when my point was that mushroomancer isn't worth gemming in instead of it being easy to gem in, my point is that berries and powders are the only boost items worth using, not that they're percentage based. The finer details are pedantry when the conclusion is the same and gets the point across anyway.

> since you get the same result regardless if the data is presented with a multiplicative versus additive number

You don't. You said powders add 9% and berries add 6%.

Both are wrong.

Both add a flat 10 base damage.

Every weapon hase a set amount of base damage, the number shown is always inflated.

If you add +20 base damage on a 100 base damage weapon, the increase in % is far greater than if you add +20 base damage on a 200 base damage weapon.

So no, using percentual numbers does not work.

Use a Bone 2 weapon - nothing else. Use 1 Berry 1 Powder, you'll see a 20% increase.
Use a Nergal/Tyrant 1 weapon - nothing else. Use 1 Berry 1 Powder, you'll see a 10% increase

I corrected Recovery Up not appying to Wide-Range but the segment on the damage numbers of demondrug is just pedantry, since you get the same result regardless if the data is presented with a multiplicative versus additive number--demonpowders and berries are smarter, anything else more cost for little reward

The max potions are rations are for yourself, when you need a stamina/health boost. Dash juices also aren't an issue to get anyway since they're one of the cheapest items to meld for, and you don't use them many times throughout a fight.

Cool drinks are just for convenience sake. Yes, they are given to you in the supply box, but spend five seconds in multiplayer and you'll notice people just ignore the supply box anyway until they notice they forgot the cool drinks--hence their necessity.

Also the rarity of the Mushroomancer gem doesn't matter since I highly suggest not using it anyway. Gem in something useful that you can't just replicate through the use of items.

> You can just slot in Mushroomancer

Mushroomancer Decorations are among the rarest, rank 8.Gobbler/Friendship are rank 6, easier to obtain and use.

You also use Mushroomancer for the 'free' dash juice, since crafting requires a monster drop. Dash Extract + Catalyst (Honey/Bitterbug) .. vs .. 1 Mushroom.

> Recovery UP

Does not apply to Wide Range.

> That sortiment of things to bring..

Since Max potions don't work with Wide Range, no real reason to bring 3. Cool Drink is not really needed either cause whenever you need it, it's in the supply box - or you get Chillshrooms nearby. Not sure why you bring Ration and Dash Juice. The berries last 3 minutes each, so 10 berries would mean 30 minutes of buffs?

> Armor/Demondrug are only x%

Powder, Berries and Drugs stack meaning you can get +25/27 Armor/Attack. Demon Powder and Might Seed also both add the same values. +10 base value. Drugs add +5 base, mega drugs +7.

I tend to enjoy playing a support role now and then, and i never felt like Sheath really effected my performance personally as a support, you could use the charm for something better like Tool Specialist lvl 3 or even Slugger lvl 3 if you're into K.O. Personal preferences really, but yea, lots of options to opt for with better effects. =)

@Wiike Yes. Just promise you'll still actually hit the monster.
Wiike 2018년 9월 11일 오후 6시 57분
So can I combo this with the hunting horn to creat the absolute support master?
