Razor Wire (With Damage)

Description

An evolution of barbed wire, concertina wire, also called razor wire, is named for its helical shape and tendency to expand—resembling a musical instrument of the same name--was first developed during the First World War. First produced by hand in the trenches, it was soon produced in factories, churning out countless miles of the stuff. A cheap, lightweight building material used to construct formidable anti-infantry obstacles and fortifications, it remains popular to this day with militaries and civilians alike.

It is generally made of two wires, a stronger, un-barbed support wire and a length of razor tape with sharp, pointed barbs produced in several different lengths. The result is a self-supporting wire structure that can quickly be deployed to create a formidable obstacle to infantry. Faster to deploy than a traditional wire-and-stake fence and simple to manufacture on an industrial scale, its low cost and light weight make it ideal for fortifications and portable field defenses.

While it can be produced by hand at a crafting spot, doing so is far slower than manufacturing it at a machining table.

Concertina Wire Obstacle -
Recipe: 1 x Spool of Concertina Wire

Health: 150; Damage: 6 (55% chance); Blunt damage resistance: 15%; Explosive damage vulnerability: 200%.

A basic entanglement consisting of a single coil of razor wire anchored in place. Cheap and extremely quick to install, its light weight and ease of deployment make it excellent for outer perimeters and temporary encampments. While it can still be crossed with some difficulty, it still poses an obstacle to infantry and leaves them exposed to incoming fire. Though difficult to damage without the proper tools, it is vulnerable to explosives, making a single line of obstacles insufficient to significantly hinder an enemy advance.

Concertina Wire Barricade -
Recipe: 3 x Spool of Concertina Wire

Health: 350; Blunt damage resistance: 20%; Explosive damage vulnerability: 175%.

A razor wire fence rising to almost chest height, it is constructed from three coils of wire stacked on top of one another in a pyramid-shape and anchored securely in place. While more time-consuming to build, it poses a formidable barrier that the enemy cannot pass cross without first creating a breach, making it useful for creating perimeter fences, prisoner holding areas, or temporary field works.

Save Game & Mod Compatibility

Save Games -

Adding: There should be no issue adding this mod to existing save games. It should be loaded towards the end.

Removing: While I don't recommend removing disabling this mod after you've started a colony, it won't cause any issues if done properly. If you wish to remove this mod from a colony, you must first load the save with it enabledand remove any existing concertina wire fortifications or spools on the map. You must also deconstruct any crafting spots and machining tables (in addition to anywhere else mods may all you to craft spools of wire), if you fail to do this, removing the mod will bug out the crafting window. After you have done this, you may save, disable this mod, and reload. It may produce some errors the first time you reload, but should be fine.

Mod Compatibility -
UN-Colony: This mod must be loaded after UN-Colony.

A special thanks to:
Okmkz - Whose Barbed Wire mod taught me the texture blueprint system.
Rainbeau Flambe - Whose [RF] Concrete mod taught me the recipe system.
Alistaire, NoImageAvailable, and everyone else over at Combat Extended - Their coding help and advice helped make this possible.

To do list:
- Evaluate viablity of making wire obstacles deal minor damage to pawns passing through them
- Add both tiers of barricades (I need to finish the graphics)
- General health, work, and cost balancing
- Add research requirement (?)
- Cross-mod compatilbility (?)

Update to 1.5 please!

I've been using this on 1.5 for a while now and only came across one bug so far. If you have concertina wire built against a wall and try to place something on that wall above it, in my case a wall light or wall torch, the pawns will stand around and do nothing because they can't reach the build task. Removing the task to build the wall light/torch will free the pawns and they will return to normal. the bug does not happen if there is a space in between the wall light/torch and the concertina wire.

My uneducated guess is that their task assignment tells them that it is a viable build task as if it were just sandbags in the way but the wire itself stops the pathing from taking place.

Just tested it with 1.5 seems ok, there are a few errors regarding specifically this mod in the debug but it behaves the same as 1.4 so who knows

Yeah, been using this on 1.4 for weeks, it seems fine.

just curious if anyone knows if this is working or being updated?

@Anti-Personic Bullet

Barbed Wire needs to be strapped down otherwise you can just put a thick blanket on it and push it. The author of CE probably considered this "base" you put the longer tracks of wire in to keep it in position.

I love the mod to bits but there is 1 issue I've found: the game comes to an absolute crawl once raids larger than 15 people reach the barbed wire. Tps are basically non existent and frames drop to 5fps or less on good days

For anyone who still needs to know: yes, the barrier can indeed be shot through.
