Proper Empire Names

Description
What is this? [the short version]
It renames a small handful of tags back to their full titles because the short version doesn't sound good.
It replaces Portugal's ability to form Spain with a new formable, plus ideas.
It adds a new formable for Burgundy, plus missions and ideas.

What is this? [the long version]
This small mod's purpose is threefold:
First, it seeks to address what I perceive as an underappreciated issue with the localisation of EUIV: The fact that, in order to avoid contradictions between the given localisation of a tag and its in-game political situation, the developers opted in some instances to eschew the appropriate, mainstream nomenclature in favor of more generic terms. And while that works well enough in most instances, such as the Kingdom of France being referred to simply as France, it also leads to oddities such as the proud Ottoman Empire being reduced to merely "Ottomans", the Mamluk Sultanate becoming "Mamluks", and the Palatinate of the Rhine confusingly addressed as simply "The Palatinate", when historically many regions across the Empire and even the British Isles had received such a title. As such, it "corrects" these and a handful of other such issues in the assumption that the rare occasion when the Timurid Empire ends up as actually a republic would be far less jarring to the player than to have all of Egypt and a good chunk of Anatolia and Southern Italy ruled by a country that calls itself... "The Knights".

Secondly, it seeks to correct an issue I perceive with the political situation in the Iberian Peninsula, where to Portugal is given the option of forming the Kingdom of Spain. Portugal's ability to form Spain, with the spanish flag and spanish ideas and spanish events, is an issue primarily due to how important aspects of Portugal's history during the period dealt exactly with its rejection of the Iberian Union with Spain and the self-assertion of its growing national identity, which in game terms translates to something that would be akin to giving an option to form Spain to Granada. As such, I have removed the ability of Portugal to form Spain, and in its stead have given the country a functionally identical set of decisions to create the Kingdom of Lusitania, a ficticious extrapolation that better evokes the idea of a powerful Portugal that managed to overtake Castille and Aragon's position over the peninsula, named after the Roman province of the same name. Note that, while the decisions are pretty much the same, Lusitania has its own set of national ideas with different bonuses than Spain's or Portugal's.

The National Ideas for the Kingdom of Lusitania are as follows:
Lusitanian Traditions: +10% Trade Efficiency, +15% Land MoraleImperator totius Hispaniae: -5 Years of SeparatismThe Ambitions of Sebastião: -10% Land Attrition, +25% Religious UnityReform the Royal Army: -10% Land Maintenance ModifierThe Lusiads: +1 Yearly Navy Tradition, +1 Naval Leader ManeuverAbolish the Captaincy System: +20 Global Settler IncreaseHeralds of a New Age: +33% Naval ForcelimitsPombaline Style: -10% Development Cost, -10% Build CostLusitanian Ambition: +10% Heavy Ship Combat AbilityLastly, it seeks to address a similar issue affecting Burgundy where, for lack of better words, the country lacks a clear end goal: in a normal game, Burgundy is incentivized to either form the Netherlands, and surrender all its french possessions in the process, or to form France itself, which essentially means spending decades of hard-fought warfare steadily beating back a much stronger and violently hostile neighbor... only to at the very end press a button and become the very country you spent decades dismantling, effectively rendering your efforts irrelevant. As a result, while I have not removed Burgundy's ability to create either Netherlands or France, I have added the ability for the country to form the Kingdom of Lotharingia, unique amongst all formable country decisions in the game in that it actually requires papal approval, and is designed to anger the hell out of France and make the Emperor more than a little bit annoyed. This decision is meant to mirror Charles the Bold's failed project for the legitimization of Burgundy through the official recognition of his kingship by Emperor Frederick III, which never came to pass thanks to, amongst other things, Charles' fatal character flaw of not having a skull thick enough to resist being cracked in half by a swiss halberd. Similar to Lusitania, Lotharingia possesses its own national ideas, but also its own mission tree seeing as Burgundy's vanilla tree is... not very well fleshed out. Both its mission tree and idea set encourage the player to develop the country as a strong catholic monarchy that will receive a few extra bonuses for resisting the draw of the Reformation, despite being positioned near the likely heart of the movement. The National Ideas for the Kingdom of Lotharingia are as follows:Lotharingian Traditions: +1 Diplomatic Reputation, -1 National UnrestThe Legacy of Emperors: +20% Improve RelationsUphold Papal Doctrine: +3% Missionary Strength vs. Heretics, +1 Yearly Papal InfluenceThe Lessons of Integration: -15% Diplomatic Annexation CostBetween Scylla and Charybdis: -10% Aggressive Expansion ImpactEstablish the Royal Academy of Arms: +1 Yearly Army TraditionEstablish Trading Charters: +10% Trade EfficiencyThe Principle of Absolute Primacy: +0.20 Yearly AbsolutismLotharingian Ambition: +15% Infantry Combat Ability
What version of the game is it for?
Nominally for 1.25, but I see no reason why it should not be compatible with future versions. If that proves to be the case, I will see what can be done about fixing it.
Does this require any DLC?
It requires no DLC. Some of the Lotharingian missions will have different requirements or effects depending on whether you own Common Sense, Cradle of Civilization and Mandate of Heaven, however, and Lusitania should be compatible with the unit graphics for the Great Powers pack.
Is it save-compatible?
It should be!
Why didn't you give Lusitania any missions?
Unlike Burgundy, Portugal has quite a well fleshed out and extensive mission tree. I felt that there was no need to expand upon it, and furthermore I felt that I simply did not have the necessary ability to design content that would meaningfully enrich it. Therefore I preferred to leave it alone rather than bloat it with content for content's sake.
Does this support languages other than English?
Unfortunately, no. I do not possess the ability to adequately localise this mod to any of the supported languages beyond English, and I would rather not subject french, spanish and german players to a mangled machine translation, which is the best I could offer.

To Do List
- Contemplate whether or not I can come up with a meaningful number of Lotharingian flavor events.- Contemplate if there are any other countries that would warrant a change in localisation.- Contemplate my inability to create a flag for Lotharingia that is not blatantly stolen from CKII.- Made the decision triggers less redundant
I have a complaint!
Please feel free to inform me so that I may probably feel bad about it.

for the diplomatic formation of Lusitania it requires to have aragon and castile to be junior partners, can you add in events that make it so portugal have a chance to actually form these relations?

History Student here: Still, Byzantium should be called Imperium Romanum. Not only they themselves saw them as the continuation of the roman empire, but other political entities aswell (even the HRE).
chaosbread Sep 9, 2018 @ 8:53pm
@armzngunz Well there's already a "Roman Empire" as a formable nation, and the political entity called "Byzantium" was quite different from the preceding "Roman Empire" even if they did call themselves "Imperium Romanum," the Roman Empire
