How To Play Co-Op
By Alphaturian
Hi all,

I've played MHW on PS4 and now on PC and a few of my friends on PC were having issues with the way MHW does multi-player or rather, restricts certain levels of access for multiplayer. After helping my friends figure it out and explaining it to them, they highlighted a few people had issues with it. So to avoid further problems, please take the time to read my first ever guide. - Apologies if you don't agree/appreciate this, i'm just trying to help. :)

So one of the main complaints/issues i've heard people say is that they can't join their friends games.
I understand this isn't a great mechanic and puts off a lot of the co-op, for my own sake, I validated this mechanic by believing it's designed to avoid power levelling, and griefing.

So whats happening?
When you encounter a new monster/new area, the game wants to introduce you with a cutscreen. - Because of this cutscreen, other players are not able to join you.

The best way to work with a friend or friends, is that you all enter quests at the same time, and then after each has seen the cutscene, you simply hit "return from quest" - This will transport you back to town.
When both yourself and who you are trying to join, have seen this cutscene, the quest will be joinable.

Timeline example:
Player 1 Enters Quest 0 mins
Player 2 Enters Quest 0 mins

Player 2 Finds boss and cutscene begins - 2mins later
Player 1 Finds boss and cutscene beings - 4mins later

Player 2 finishes cutscene, and leaves quest - 5mins later

If player 1 is still watching the cutscene, player 2 cannot join their quest.
When player 1 gets the message "An SOS flare can be used" - Player 2 can then enter.

OR

Both parties can now leave and start a quest together.

Please avoid hate and negativity on comments below, i'd just like to help anyone having issues playing with friends, as the gameplay is so much better with friends.

Thanks,
Alphaturian.

It is kinda frustrating for new players to basically play through the game together. However, going through the base game (almost) completely solo gives a much needed experience in my opinion. You can't rely on friends to help with quests, which makes the fights with all the monsters much more intimate and rewarding when you conquer them on your own.

I think the reason Capcom decided to make the multiplayer a hassle is to nudge people into playing the base game solo so they can learn the essential mechanics of the game (and maybe a slightly more immersive experience?), but without truly forcing it on people.

Its just like this in the beginning of the game. After you reach a certain point and have seen all the cutscenes you dont have to worry about this anymore.

It's 'cutscene' not cutscreen

Or you could just wait you know, do something else until the cutscene is over. make some tea or coffee, read news, fuck around with your inventory.

This is just frustrating. Why couldn't they just keep the old system?
