Leechless Perm Beginner Guide
By ChroniusNightmare
Why make a Perm Beginner if you won't actually play it. Stop leeching and start putting in effort. This is a guide for Perm Beginners who do not leech, plain and simple. I've put together a guide on what you CAN do as a class that's intentionally weak.

Introduction

So you wanna make a Perma Beginner class the non-leech way, eh? Alrighty then! Strap yourself in for a bumpy ride on the rollercoaster that is Perma Beginner! This guide will provide much insight into how I develop the growth of Perma Beginner types. It has taken me a long time to tinker with the game and figure out what can and cannot be done. It's a fun little trial of Dos and Don'ts for a class that has unexplored potential, especially now when there's more equipment to choose from and abilities you can obtain. Whether it be from Soul weapons, Unique potential armour with Decent abilities, familiars, mounts, or rings. Of course there's still the challenge of making a perm beginner and actually making an effort to get anywhere with it. Hopefully I'll be able to convince you and show just how easy it is to get started and eventually reach that sought out level you were told as impossible to reach without leech.
Starter Classes
Beginner

The Beginner class in the Explorer tree is the most basic out of the four starters. You get to pick between two out of the three skills given to it from the start. You have the classic Snail Shell attack that's used to damage monsters from a distance, a small heal over time ability, and a Movement Speed buff. The two skills you want to pick are the Snail Shell attack and the Movement Speed buff, you can get around the HP restoration issues with potions that drop from monsters.

Noblesse

The Beginner class of the Cygnus Knights is known as Noblesse. For a good many years, Noblesse were about neck and neck with Explorer Beginners in that they had the same three abilities to choose from. Since 2013, Cygnus Knights had undergone a reboot. This, in turn, ditched the copied abilities of the Explorer Beginners and exchanged them for two auto-picked abilities. You get a multi-hit attack that's capable of hitting 3 enemies and does not require mana to use. The second skill you get is a double jump that's also capable of propelling you up into the air (jump, up+jump). If you were to make any kind of Perma Beginner that acts like an actual class, Noblesse is the class for you.

Legend

(Yes, it is STILL possible to make a Legend. After completing the first five quests, Lilin leaves your side and stops pestering you to complete the Aran pre-quests by the time you reach level 5, after which you just need 80 mesos to get off the island to depart for Victoria Island.)
The base form of Aran; Legend, is the only Beginner that's available through one class. Legend is given skills that the Explorer Beginner has. It also gets a free Dash/Double Jump. (Here's a fun little trick you can do with the Dash. Set it as a hot-keyed skill. Next, use the hot-keyed Dash and in mid-speed, press the jump button to send your character a greater distance than you would with the double jump).

Citizen

The Beginner class of the Resistance tree is known as Citizen. It is a slight step up from the Explorer Beginner. The three abilities this class provides are a Crystal Throw which similar to the Snail Shell attack, increased amounts of HP/MP from restoration items, and a Movement Speed buff that also prevents enemy collision. Lucky for you, you're able to distribute SP into all three skills evenly.

???

The base form of Shade; ???, is the second of two Beginners that is available through one class. You only have two skills available to you through the means of Blessing of the Fairy and Empress's Blessing. This is quite possibly the hardest Beginner character to play due to the severe lack of resourcefulness. On the other hand, this kind of character was never meant to be taken seriously. It's not even among the rankings on the official site. There is currently no known means of leaving Fox Valley legitimately. I can't even explain how strange this is, how this class cannot use a Hyper Rock, the Maple Guide, or any quests in the light bulb to leave the area. It is the only starter that has any anchoring, and boy do they go overboard for this one.
The Pros vs Cons of Beginner types
Pros

- Travel fair is 10x cheaper.
- You do not lose EXP upon death.
- If you have other characters, you can benefit from having both the Blessing of the Fairy and Empress's Blessing, both of which increase your Attack Damage. Blessing of the Fairy is increased by having any job class that is non-Cygnus Knights (every 10 levels) while Empress's Blessing is only increased by Cygnus Knights (every 5 levels).
- You have access to Legion stat boosts.
"Little Time Saver": if you have quests that require lots of kills, return when your character is about to level up. A blast of energy will burst out from your character upon leveling up, instantly destroying every mob around you as long as they're within 20 levels of your character.

Cons

- You cannot get Professions.
- You cannot enter Elin Academy (without a hyper teleport rock). (It's also got a map that triggers a completion requirement for the Beginner Explorer medal).
- You do not have access to Link Skills.
- On newly created Beginner character, you cannot receive the Maple Return/Secret Assembly/Journey Home/Return to Rien skills.
- You cannot get Emblems through normal means. Emblems have been designated to fit actual classed characters at levels 60 and 100, so you have to find another way to get them. There used to be a PvP thing called Boss Arena and that allowed people to get moderate to VERY good emblems.
- You are unable to get the Pocket Slot through normal means. You must buy (or have an alchemist make) a Magic Pocket in order to use the slot. Events can sometimes carry them in their coin shops, so keep a vigilant eye out for them.
Ability Point Distribution
Some people are on the fence when it comes to investing AP into either HP-based or STR-based. The difference is simple. One takes much longer to kill things while the other doesn't. HP-based Beginners are known to have some extra HP but severely lack damage and defense. STR-based Beginners are moderately short on HP but pack some damage and incremental defense increases because of the additional attuned STR. With the introduction to potentials and flames, it'd be a waste to distribute any points into HP. You also do more damage as STR-based when using Giant Potions/Mighty Rune.
Equipment to Acquire
In the mid-game, you want to prioritize HP/ATK/STR% (in that order). Due to full damage builds having less HP, it is best to Spell Trace your beginning equipment with HP and to have some increases of HP% potentials to help prolong your presense in battle. You can of course get away with having no HP%, just as long as you've prioritized to have high HP via Spell Tracing.
By the time you reach end-game, the priority then shifts to ATK/STR/HP%. HP% slightly becomes less important due to equipment sets giving plenty of HP% all around. You should invest in converting your weapon into a Soul Weapon and to have a summonable mob-like Soul. Although pricey, Magnificent souls are your go-to for summons. However, if you lack funds, the ones that are summonable with regular souls are Pink Bean, Hilla, Murgoth, and Empress.

Familiars
Familiars are a must when you lack HP and damage. I strongly recommend collecting a lot of familiars that have poisoning effects to help shrink HP bars.

With the new instalment of the most recent patches, there have also been updates to the Familiar System (currently unavailable at the time of this guide edit). Familiars now have randomized effects, similar to revealing potentials on equipment. The Familiar System has new benefits in the form of runes. When you collect a group of familiars for a set, it will unlock a rune that will give your character bonus stats. Right now, the best thing you can do is collect a lot of familiars and store them on characters until the Familiar System becomes available.

For PNAE, you should attempt to get these familiars: Terrified Boar, Blue Ribboned Pig, Surgeon Eye, Goby, and Leprechaun. They're used to help speed through the first two rounds of PNAE. The reason they're used over any other is that familiars like these lack attack animations, and because of that little detail they are able to deal many more attacks over a short amount of time.
Training Areas
- From 5-30, go to Pantheon and enter through the right portal to a map that has Sleepy Grobblers. They're the best place to grind early due to the map having a large amount of mobs and they give 34 EXP. It's almost impossible to not get 10+ enemies killed on level up.
- 33 and up, try to participate in as many Surprise Missions as you are able to. Quests in general are too good not to do. It's free EXP for a class that clearly has a hard time getting any.
- 33, go to Altair the medal NPC. He will give you the Quest Specialist medal for free and I consider it to be one of the best medals to get early.
- 40, you can go to Kerning City to do all of the quests there.
- 30-50, go to Savage Terminal to train at the mobs in Garbage Dump: Waste Treatment Plant 1-3 and then Abandoned Offices: Mr. Hazard's Lair 2
- If you get bored of grinding in Savage Terminal, do Gold Beach, Elodin, and then Rienne Strait. Completing Rienne Strait nets you a lot of EXP, a face accessory, a belt, and a new medal to replace Quest Specialist with. I'd advise to keep the medal around, though. It has 10 Jump. There's another medal you can get reasonably early on called the One Who's Touched the Sky. It has 5 Movement Speed and 5 Jump and the way you get it is by climbing to the top of 5 areas. They're located in Kerning City at the top of either crane, Ellinia in Chimney Tree Top climbing the ladder to the stump, outside the Nautilus on top of the head of a nested bird to the right of the map, the wooden cross in Perion at the top of the map, and in standing on the top of the right wing of the Goddess's statue in Orbis Tower.
- 60, you will get two quests that will give a shoulder and a ring.
- 60-70, you can do quests in Perion and Sleepywood. Perion and Sleepywood quests are heavy on the elimination quests. It's starting to set it just how much harder it is to kill every mob at around this level. You've come a long way, you can do it!
- 70-80, you can do quests in Orbis and El Nath. Now we're finally leaving Victoria Island. Don't worry, we'll come back later when we can manage to beat Balrog PQ on our own. The notable things that Orbis has are that is has a bunch of fetch quests, a lot of item collection from mobs, and even a quest that has you play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to Eliza. There's this huge map that has Eliza as an NPC and an interactive harp. It's a really old quest and I like that it hasn't been touched. I'm not sure if other people can hear what you play on the harp, though.
- 75, do the Birth of the Alliance quest line and pursue the Resistance quests for Willpower. Willpower increases your max HP. Completing this quest line enables you to get an additional 5 ATK as a passive and also receive a medal that has 500 HP/MP.
- 75, start the Afterlands quest line, but follow my guide to complete it quickly (http://forums.maplestory.nexon.net/discussion/24371/afterlands-guide-the-fast-way). There are repeatable quests in Land of Innocence and Land of Riches. The quests are called Dry Your Eyes, Distracted From Anger, and A Tasteful Favor. I have dubbed these “Lazy Recycles” because the items you need for the quests are tradable, meaning you could do the farming on another character and send them through storage. In the Land of Innocence, Dry Your Eyes needs 10 Frozen Treats and Distracted From Anger needs 10 Child's Toys. They can each be completed 5 times within ~24 hours (from the time of completion). In the Land of Riches, A Tasteful Favor needs one of two tasks: either hand in 20 Food Baskets or eliminate 50 Treasure Thief Moustrosity monsters. This quest rewards exponentially more EXP and gives an item called Delicious Piece of Gold. It is a consumable item that enlarges your character for 60 seconds.
- Do the daily repeat quests for 10 Delicious Pieces of Gold (this item cannot be used outside Afterlands).
- 80-90, you can do quests in Aqua Road, Edelstein Mines, and Ariant. It's getting a bit harder to get through enemies HP bars now. Good thing you gathered a lot of familiars to help you with this long slog of training.
- 90-100, you can do quests in Magatia. (By this time, you may have gotten your hands on a Soul weapon with a summonable soul be able to complete Mushroom Kingdom quests.)
- 100-112, you can do quests in Leafre, Ludibrium, and Ellin Forest. You've managed to reach the three digits, congrats! Hang in there, you're within reach of relieving some of the strain. Just 12 more levels of struggling.
- 112-135, you can go to New Leaf City to start up a particular series of quest lines. I created a couple how-tos on my YouTube channel. Just search ChroniusNightmare. The videos you're looking for are Episodes 3, 4, and 1 (in that order). 3 and 4 are for gaining access to an Item Exchange while also receiving items used to navigate through the Crimsonwood area much more effectively. In episode 1, I take advantage of a repeatable quest which gives 1mil EXP per Bosshunter armor piece restored. Think of it this way, you're getting lots of EXP while also making a lot of mesos.
- 135, as an option, you can take up doing the Heroes of Maple quests to get lots of EXP and other rewards. You can replay each of the five acts immediately after completing them once. After the second completion, you have to wait a full 7 days to be able to replay them again. When you're playing out the quests, you're playing as each one of the heroes who fought the Black Mage. Don't worry about the damage your character has. All six heroes are equipped with their own individually scripted amounts of damage when using skills. You may end up running into some HP issues, the mobs themselves deal around 200~1000 roughly, although I advise you to get much more when you reach the ending of the story where you're having to fight Damien who's capable of dealing up to 5000 damage.
- 155, you want to start up Hieizan pre-quests. Now this right here is what you've been waiting for. It has now become EASY MODE. Take a look in your light bulb for a quest called "Regards, Takeda Shingen". To reach him, you will need to go to Momijigaoko and enter through the portal to the far left of the map. You will have to complete two item collection quests, which means you still have to kill stuff. On top of that, the enemies have large amounts of HP. Note: the second quest requires you to drop 30 individual soul pieces onto a plant to be able to click on it to receive the thing you need to complete the quest. Heading back through the same portal in town, you will immediately notice that it's become a different area. When you meet Ayame, be sure to finish playing out Kanna and Hayato first. Leave playing Ayame for last, she has the best clear and mobility out of the three so you can grind for those 5~15 levels. By this time, you should be looking to have around 20~60k range, which is about as much as you could ever need to clear PNAE solo, with time remaining. I suggested 155 for people who do tend to have around that range and have close to 7 Hyper stat points in Boss Damage. You can end at 145 if you're confident you can take on PNAE within the tight timer of 15 minutes, just make sure you're equipped with at least 3 Hyper stat points in Boss Damage.
- From 155-275, you're left with PNAE, Sudden Missions, and the large list of quests you have available to you. You've made it! This is the moment you've been waiting for! Now it REALLY is EASY MODE! Time to level at speeds you never thought possible!

Optional:
- If you've unlocked the use of Legion, you can purchase three EXP potions from the Legion merchant. Using the potions gives you 49% of the EXP required to level up and a 2x EXP buff for 30 minutes. The first potion costs 75 Legion Coins and is for levels 100 to 129. The second potion costs 110 Legion Coins and is for levels 130 to 159. And finally, the third potion costs 150 Legion Coins and is for levels 160 to 179. All three potions have a limit of 5 per month.
Princess No - Alter Ego
(Crucial side note: after completing an entry, exit out to the main lobby where Princess Sakuno and Ayame are and re-enter after. This will prevent the Burning Field effect from lessening. Entering several times in a row would cause the effect to either lower or disappear entirely, so take advantage of it while there is one.)

PNAE is a five-map, boss-rush dungeon where you're having to face-off against 5 unique bosses within the tight time limit of 15 minutes. ANY class can enter it. Your character will undergo a transformation during the time you're inside PNAE. You will take the form of the NPC, Ayame. Ayame has a really fun kit of skills at her disposal. After getting acquainted with what the character can do, I've learned that it is just bearly passable to have a minimum of 9% Boss Damage at the low level of 144. The clear time can vary between 45 minutes to over an hour to complete all seven entries. You can enter up to seven times daily to receive a total of 208.6mil EXP. All five maps have Burning Field effect, so it's possible to get 417.3mil EXP. Do you know what's better? 2x coupons/events stack. Normal Amount + max Burning Field + 2x coupon + Cash Shop/Reward Shop 2x coupon + 2x event = 1.043bil EXP.
The first stage features Mikagami, who is a re-skinned Dodo. The fight itself demands hits over damage, so bring along a familiar. The second stage features Renka who is a beautiful, silent katana-swinging girl and five mobs with different coloured robes. Your goal in this fight is to deal with all five mobs (who have the same gimmick as Mikagami) while fighting Renka. You cannot move onto the next stage until all enemies are eliminated. Also, all fights after the second stage demand damage (meaning no more gimmick). The third stage features Oura Shogun, who is a large male spear-wielder. This guy can be annoying, especially if you're in a corner. He has a tendency to get into a loop where he shoves you to the side, effectively stun-locking you. The fourth stage features Miroku who is a male, dark priest-looking boss. He is super beefy in the HP department. Your goal is to have your back completely against the wall and then immediately trigger the use of the Iron Flower Gun skill by pressing it once. After it's been triggered, mash that skill as fast as you can to deal "Tons of Damage" at high speed to completely gut Miroku's health bar. The last stage is against Princess No's Alter Ego. The goal of this fight is to stay out of her reach while using damaging skills on her. If she can't reach you, she disappears and reappears in the air then immediately falls to the ground, dealing half of your HP. You can dodge this ability by simply jumping on the frame where she hits the ground. If you get too close to her, she will inflict your character with up to three debuff/status ailments.
1.) A direction control reversal debuff that lasts 30 seconds.
2.) A freeze/slow effect that visually turns your character blue and prevents your character from moving. There's a funny thing that happens when your character is unable to walk in either direction. When you hold either the left or right keys and then jump, your character will be flung backward a significant distance.
3.) A damage-over-time ailment that ticks down 1500 HP per second. Thankfully it is removable with All-Cure potions.
Mounts (Optional)
There are 6 types of mounts. There are mounts with 140~190 Movement Speed and nothing else. Moving up from there, there are mounts with 140~190 Movement Speed plus either a Double Jump, Glide, Town Flight, or Soaring bonus.
They recently introduced a line of hybrid mounts called Airships. They have a Double Jump and a Rapid Fire attack that fires a small light orb every half a second.
At 120, a quest will become available in the light bulb icon to the left of your screen. The quest involves collecting items and requires 50mil mesos in order to obtain the Soaring ability. I will provide a list of mounts that are known to be able to Soar. Dragon, Knight Chariot, Cloud, Invisible Balrog, Balrog, Hot-Air Balloon, Pegasus, Nightmare, Owl, Magical Broom, Helicopter, Vellum, and Nadeshiko Fly High. If it's a mount that has the word 'Double' in the title, it cannot Soar.

I am currently using this guide to level up my burning Noblesse. Honestly I thought the only way to progress as a perm beginner was to just leech off of my kanna while she was farming, but this is great too. I will definetly use PNAE to level up my beginner + see if I can get him to 500k range :P

It’s great to hear you’re getting help!
Reboot World lacks a lot of equips compared to regular servers. For instance, equips do not have upgrade slots, so the idea of getting shields is pointless. Haunted House is gone, so r.i.p Stirgeman upgrades.
Bathrobe doesn't hold a candle to using shirt and pants since equips have 6 potential lines individually.
You get to use 3-4 out of the 5 Frozen equips from Burning event. I say 4 because Noblesse get the Secondary weapon. No other beginner can.
Although the Frozen set is nice, there's also the thought of trading in the shirt and pants for an overall. Personally, if it were any other server than Reboot World I'd stick with the top and bottom. Even at the cost of losing out on 6 potential lines. The potential lines would have to be REALLY GOOD if you didn't want to switch to an overall. I believe the best stat you can have on a tier 1 equip with Legendary status is 4%/4%/4% main potential and 4%/4%/4% bonus potential.

Thanks for dropping by my guide!
First off, yes, the drop tables are up to date in regular and Reboot worlds.
Second, there is actually a progression you can follow, but I can't imagine it being very easy in Reboot. I have been tinkering with a Noblesse over there but mostly on my own. I'm sure if you had some friends to help you out with bosses and such you could likely get the items that are most optimal for Reboot standards. I can tell you right now that the build is far less impressive than regular servers, but since you've asked nicely I'll go to work and give this guide a little update. I may be making a few passes at this to finalise, but for the most part, the gear progression in Reboot is as up to date as it can possibly be at this time.

hey i gotta say i love the detailed guide but i had some questions.
are these drop tables still up to date on reboot?
and instead of just copy pasting in all drop tables you could also look what are the best upgrades to get and when from lvl 1 til 200 or something like a gear progression guide.
