I have noticed some of that. Some of those reasons can be boiled down to hardware being used - such as the monitor. I had this problem long ago actually when I was doing artwork for forum signatures on an old monitor. Got a new one and saw how bright everything actually was. The age of the monitor loses brightness over time which can drastically change how it is shown on screen compared to someone who has a newer monitor that doesn't have any brightness loss.

have you noticed that different systems/players see LUTs completely differently? I have found many to be unusable for this reason. I will try this out, pretty neat!
