Where to Start
The easiest way to start playing CS is by hopping into a Deathmatch game and experimenting with the different guns. At first, it might be fun to enable random weapons in order to get a feel for everything. Once you start understanding a general grasp of the weapons and game mechanics, try switching over to Casual. Casual will give you a general sense of how the game is meant to be played, and you can spend time there learning about the different maps and how they are played. Have fun!
Gameplay and Mechanics
Both teams spawn on opposite sides of a map with $800. The first round is known as the “pistol round” because players don’t have enough money to buy a primary weapon at the start of the round. On these rounds, players can decide between buying a kevlar vest, utilities, and/or a better pistol. These rounds set the tone of the game, and the team that wins the pistol round is usually at an economic advantage for the next few rounds unless they lose the following round(s). In pistol rounds, players can not afford helmets, so many pistols are a one-shot headshot kill at any range. This mechanic alone gives the Counter-Terrorists an advantage, as the glock’s one-shot range is very low compared to other pistols.

BUY ARMOR!

Some people don’t understand the power of armor when they start playing the game, and so they assume they don’t need it because it costs extra money. Buying a helmet is essential, too. Without a helmet, players are exposed to getting killed in one shot. The Counter-Terrorists don’t need helmets if they are confident that the Terrorists are only using AK-47s and AWPs because both of those guns are one-shot headshot killers anyways. Armor is also not usually bought when teams are trying to save money, because they can utilize close corners and surprise to hopefully get a kill or two.

YOU CAN NOT RUN AND SHOOT!

This mechanic causes the most trouble for new players. Unlike other video games, you must be still, or walking while crouched to fire your weapon accurately. This means that you can not simply run around a corner holding down the trigger expecting to get a kill, because you will be killed by a player standing still. Although standing still might make you feel like you’re exposed, you have to remember that your enemy needs to do the same. One technique people do in order to fake other players out is to move in one direction, then suddenly stop and kill the enemy. This makes it harder for them to track you and you might be able to catch them off-guard when you stop.

BUY AND USE DIFFERENT GRENADES!

This occurs at many skill levels, especially in uncoordinated groups like in matchmaking or Pick-Up Games (PUGs). Players often forget the importance of a well-placed smoke grenade or flashbang grenade. There are countless tutorials on YouTube and maps on the Steam Workshop dedicated to teaching you how to line up various nades for different purposes. Some of these are so simple that every player should know them. For example, on de_dust2, it’s common practice as a Terrorist to throw a flashbang (or two or more) over Long Doors to flash Counter-Terrorists on the other side. Similarly, it’s imperative to smoke off the Counter-Terrorist spawn from A Long when pushing onto the A Bombsite as a Terrorist to block vision from rotators. Throwing a flashbang so it explodes right as it passes a corner is enough to blind almost any potential enemy. Although they can’t completely kill an enemy with 100 HP, HE grenades can be thrown at enemies with low HP to finish them off and doesn’t always require peeking corners.

CS:GO has some other mechanics that make it unique. Many of these you’ll pick up with experience. For example, one technique commonly used with pistols and rifles is sidestepping. After moving one direction, skilled players can time their shot and fire right when they switch directions so they can hit accurate shots and remain very mobile. This is extremely popular on pistol rounds, as the high movement and acceleration speeds with pistols allow players to become very difficult to hit. Another technique is called shoulder-peeking. This is used by players to peek around corners that are being watched by snipers. To do this, face a wall and move horizontally towards the corner and switch directions right before your head peeks the corner. Your shoulder will be visible before your head, so snipers may take their shot expecting a full peek or push. This is popular in higher ranks where players have quick reaction speeds.

Economy

The in-game economy is one of Counter-Strike’s most unique features. In order to acquire new weapons, players must spend in-game money. This money is earned after getting a kill, planting the bomb, and at the end of rounds. If a team wants to save up for more expensive guns or they have very little money overall, they might choose to take a “save round.” This is also known as an “eco round,” where the team will spend little to no money at all during a round in order to conserve money. For example, a Counter-Terrorist team on an eco round might buy three P250s, one defuse kit, and one flashbang across all five of their players. This totals to $1500 and each player only spends the bare minimum. A Terrorist eco round might look like four Tec-9s, one smoke grenade, and one flashbang grenade. On eco rounds, Terrorists usually rush toward one Bombsite and try to do everything they can to plant the bomb in order to earn more money. If the Terrorists plant the bomb but lose the round, they will all receive an extra $800.

There are other methods of managing economy in CS:GO, and managing your own economy is just as important as keeping track of your enemy’s. One way is choosing the right type of weapon. For example, getting a kill with any SMG (with the exception of the P90) will reward the player with twice the normal reward, but getting a kill with an AWP only gives a third of the usual amount. One way to utilize this mechanic is running an “anti-eco” round. If one team thinks that the other is low on money, they may choose to buy SMGs in order to create a low risk, high reward scenario. That way, they will use guns that are more effective against unarmored opponents, give a high kill reward, and are not very useful if an enemy gets a kill and steals the weapon. As a team loses consecutive rounds, the amount that they earn at the end of the round increases until a team loses five rounds in a row.

As a team racks up more consecutive round losses, it becomes easier and easier to climb their way back into the game. However, this mechanic can be abused by the winning team. If a team wins many rounds in a row then loses one, winning the next round will “reset” the other team’s economy. Although the losing team will win one round, losing the next will set their loss bonus back down to the default value. This forces them to save for another round or two before being able to fully buy again.

Pros aren’t made overnight. As with any skill, practice and time are required to become good at CS:GO. It’s impossible to achieve perfect aim, and players at every skill level practice their aim frequently. Deathmatch is a great resource, but CS:GO has a lot of other features that make aim practice easier. There are workshop maps for spray control, aim, and reflex practice. Deathmatch on community servers is great too because some servers have certain modifiers like headshots only or pistols only. For game sense, you can watch pro matches or play on execute or retake servers. Retake servers start rounds off with the Terrorists having control of a Bombsite, and the Counter-Terrorists need to “retake” it by gaining control of the Site and defusing the bomb. Execute servers place Terrorists in positions near a Bombsite and lines up and throws smokes for them. If they take control of the bombsite, the Counter-Terrorists can retake it. Subreddits like /r/RecruitCS are great tools for finding teams of your skill level in your region. Playing with the same group of players is a great way to improve chemistry and could even sow the seeds for the next upcoming pro team. Once you feel like you are ready to take your skills to the next level, check out some third-party sites for finding matches. Sites like ESEA, CEVO, and FaceIt let players play Pick-Up Games on better servers with better players, and have leagues for teams to enter if they want the highest level of competition.
Pistols
Name Side Price Ammo Description

Glock 18 T 200 20/120 Starting weapon - Terrorists

UPS-S CT 200 12/24 Silenced starting weapon - Counter Terrorists

P2000 CT 200 13/52 Starting weapon - Counter Terrorists

P250 Both 300 13/26 A better pistol

CZ75-Auto Both 500 12/12 Very effective but low ammo

Five-SeveN CT 500 20/100 Very accurate with armor penetration

Tec-9 T 500 24/120 High armor penetration and high fire rate

Dual Berettas Both 500 30/120 One pistol for one hand. Double pistol double fun - Cowboy

Desert Eagle Both 700 7/35 Very powerful pistol with a lot of armor penetration

R8 Both 850 8/8 Revolver with very low firerate but with tons of damage

The most important thing you need to know about the pistols is that there are three starting weapons. On terrorists side, the Glock 18 is capable of doing 130 damage when you hit the head of an unarmored opponent. With armour, headshots do 61 damage. Unarmored body shots do between 24 and 40 damage. Damage output depends on distance, armor, and the hitbox.
On counter-terrorist side, you choose between starting with a P2000 or UPS-S in your inventory. They feel a bit different from each other but are basically equal in effectiveness. The P2000 has more ammo and slightly more range than the UPS-S, but lacks when it comes to recoil control and does not have a silencer.
Rifles
Name Side Price Ammo Description

Gali AR T 2000 35/90 Cheapest assault rifle with large magazine

FAMAS CT 2250 25/90 Cheap rifle for counter-terrorists

M4A4 CT 3100 30/90 Good magazine size and efficient

M4A1-S CT 3200 20/40 Silenced weapon with less spray, but low on ammo

AK-47 T 2700 30/90 Wide spraying but powerful weapon

SG 535 T 3000 30/90 Zoom in assault rifle

AUG CT 3300 30/90 Zoom in assault rifle

SSG 08 Both 1700 10/90 Cheapest sniper

AWP Both 4750 10/30 Most powerful sniper

SCAR-20 CT 5000 20/90 Semi-automatic sniper

G3SG1 T 5000 20/90 Semi-automatic sniper

Your weapon of choice on T-side should always be the AK-47. It is most efficient if you know how to use it properly. With its potential (taking down armored enemies with one headshot), comes a need to train this weapon and learn to control the spray and aim for the head. The counterparts on CT-side, M4A4 and M4A1-S, do not kill armored enemies with one bullet to the head but are easier to control. If you are not sure which of these you should use, think about this: Do you spray a lot? Do you need more ammo or do you prefer silenced shots?
The M4A1-S has a smaller spray pattern, but the M4A4 has a bigger magazine. This will help you when it comes to pre-firing, spraying, and wall banging. That is why an aggressive, pushing playstyle fits better with the M4A4, which is also $100 cheaper. However, in a playstyle that is more about being sneaky with less spraying, the M4A1-S would be the better choice. In the end, it is up to you which weapon you use and what fits you.
Let's talk about snipers. When used correctly, the SSG can one-shot kill even armored enemies (headshots), but as with every weapon, effectively using a particular sniper rifle depends on the situation. Your movements with the SSG are fluent and good for a one tap shot attempt (especially jump shots). However, the AWP is better. You one-shot everybody you hit above the legs, but the power has its price. The kill award (money you get when killing an enemy) with the AWP is just $100 in competitive CS:GO instead of $300 or more.
Heavy
Name Side Price Ammo Description

Nova Both 1200 8/35 Classical shotgun

XM1014 Both 1200 7/32 Automatic shotgun

Sawed-Off T 1200 7/32 Sawed-Off shotgun

MAG-7 CT 1800 5/32 Light shotgun with lower spread

M249 Both 5200 100/200 Machine gun for bullet lovers

Negev Both 5700 150/200 Machine gun for bullet parties

Shotguns are very effective in combat when you are close to your opponent. Their efficient range is very low, so when you play a shotgun you need to use their burst potential at close range correctly. Camp edges where an enemy cannot shoot you from a distance, or rush them and prefire the close corners.
SMGs
Name Side Price Ammo Description

MAC-10 T 1050 30/100 Cheapest primary weapon with high recoil and high rate of fire

MP9 CT 1250 30/120 Cheap and efficient first machine pistol

PP-Bizon Both 1400 64/120 Bullets for everyone, but with low base damage

MP7 Both 1700 30/120 A good machine pistol even so it is expensive

UMP-45 Both 1200 25/100 Small magazine, but light with high damage potential

P90 Both 2350 50/100 Best armor penetration from SMGs and low recoil

SMGs are often used as spray weapons. With a large magazine and enough additional ammo to back you up, the P90 and company need to be controlled correctly. "Spray and Pray" is not effective with these weapons. Instead, aim and shoot downward to let the spray hit the enemies the right way. Of course, you can also use them for aimed shots. In competitive, SMGs are often used in the second round where you spend some money for a better weapon, but they can be used in different situations as well.
Grenades
Name Side Price Description

Decoy grenade Both 50 Makes noises after detonation

Flashbang Both 200 When detonating, everyone who sees it is flashed

Smoke grenade Both 300 Rushing through a smoke is not a good choice

HE grenade Both 300 Does damage depending on the distance to the detonating grenade
(up to 96)

Molotov cocktail T 400 Bottle of alcohol sets on fire where it lands

Incendiary grenade CT 600 Fire comes out when detonating

Use your grenades to stop enemies from rushing or make them move somewhere else. For example, pushing a sniper out of his nest by throwing a molotow under him is effective. We will talk more about how to use them in a later post.
CS:GO Weapon Chart
USP-S or P2000?

The two starting pistols for Counter-Terrorists you need to choose from. P2000 has better first shot accuracy, more ammo and there’s 13 bullets in its magazine. On the other hand, USP-S is overall more accurate, has easier recoil and is silenced.
Both weapons have base damage of 35.

Should I play with CZ-75?

CZ is the first fully automatic pistol in CS. Very hard recoil and small number of bullets make this weapon challenging to play with. It’s an alternative option to the CTs’ Five-Seven and Tec-9 for the Terrorists. CZ’s and Tec-9 base damage is 33, Five-seven has slightly lower damage – 32.
CZ75-Auto is arguably one of the best weapons in-game at the moment. Inexperienced players might have a tough time using it though.

M4A4 or M4A1-S?

The great debate that has been held since 2015, the year Valve balanced these 2 weapons. Until then M4A1-S was way better thanks to its tight spray and better damage. After the update, more professional players started using M4A4 instead because of its clip size and ammo. Their base damage is 33.
The M4A1-S is still more accurate, which means it is better for open sites with long angles, such as A on Mirage. M4A4 dominates on smaller sites for its fire rate and previously mentioned clip size.
No matter what AR you play with, always pick up an AK though.

So what weapons should I play with?

There isn’t a clear answer as it’s about feeling good and confident with your weapon. Try going to a deathmatch and see which weapon suits you more. Below Is a WEAPONS CHART.

Weapons Guide Num: 2
Weapons and Grenades

Like any FPS game, CS:GO has its variety of weapons that are separated into 4 categories: pistols, SMGs, rifles, and heavy weapons. Each weapon has a different price, and different weapons should be bought in different situations. For example, if a team loses multiple rounds in a row, they may need to only buy pistols (or nothing at all) in order to gain more money for rifles in the next round. Proper Spending will be discussed in part two of this guide.

Pistols

Pistols in CS:GO are very dynamic, and some can score one-shot headshot kills at any range. The Terrorists start (meaning they receive one for free every round) with a Glock-18 and have exclusive access to the Tec-9, while the Counter-Terrorists can choose to start with a P2000 or a USP-S and have exclusive access to the Five-SeveN. Both teams have access to the P250, Dual Berettas, CZ-75 Auto, and Desert Eagle or R8 Revolver. Players can choose to opt for either the Desert Eagle or the R8 depending on their play style; many prefer the Desert Eagle. The P250, Five-SeveN and CZ can get one-shot headshot kills at close ranges against armored targets, and the Desert Eagle (commonly referred to as “deagle”) and R8 can get headshots at any range. All pistols, with the exception of the glock, can get one-shot headshot kills at any range against unarmored targets. The glock can get one-shot headshot kills at close ranges against unarmored targets, but its damage drops off quickly.

SMGs

The SMGs are the next tier up in terms of average price and usefulness. SMGs tend to have high fire rates, moderate recoil, and lower overall damage than rifles, but are much cheaper. The MAC-10 is exclusive to the Terrorists while the MP9 is exclusive to the Counter-Terrorists. Both sides can also purchase the UMP-45, PP-Bizon, MP7, and P90. While rifles are more accurate at long ranges, SMGs utilize their high fire rate to unload a lot of damage in close-quarters engagements.

Grenades

The grenades in CS:GO are fairly straightforward, but they have some interesting behavior mechanics. For example, the High Explosive Grenade (HE), can not kill armored opponents who have 100 HP, and explodes after a certain amount of time. However, the Smoke Grenade detonates after it stops moving and provides a smoke screen for fifteen seconds. The Flashbang Grenade also explodes after a certain amount of time, and it blinds any players who look directly at it for a few seconds. The Decoy Grenade is the cheapest item in the game, and it also detonates when it stops moving. This grenade makes noises of the most expensive gun currently in the player’s inventory, and creates a red dot on the enemies’ minimaps (so it looks like a player is there). This grenade is usually useless because red dots only appear if someone can see the enemy, so if nobody can see a player at the location of the dot, then it becomes obvious that nobody is there. Both teams have access to a fire-based grenade; the Counter-Terrorists have an Incendiary Grenade and the Terrorists have a Molotov Cocktail. The Incendiary costs $600 and is $200 more than the Molotov, but both of these items have extremely similar mechanics. Although these grenades bounce off of walls, they detonate after an amount of time passes or when they hit the ground (whichever comes first).

Heavy Weapons can sometimes serve similar roles to SMGs such as holding close range angles and area denial. One could divide the heavy weapons into two subcategories: shotguns and heavy machine guns. Both sides have access to three shotguns and two machine guns. The Terrorists have their own shotgun called the Sawed-Off, while the Counter Terrorists have the MAG-7. Both sides can use the Nova shotgun and the XM1014, which is a full-auto shotgun. The machine guns available to both sides are the M249 and the Negev. These are great at providing suppressive fire for the team.

Rifles

Rifles are the blood of Counter-Strike, and they are the most common weapon class that are bought in-game. The two teams only share two rifles, and both of them are sniper rifles: the SSG 08 (commonly referred to as the “scout”), and the AWP. The Terrorists also have access to the Galil AR, SG 553, AK-47, and G3SG1, while the Counter-Terrorists also have access to the FAMAS, AUG, M4A4 or M4A1-S, and SCAR-20. The assault rifles are the Galil, FAMAS, AUG, SG, AK, and M4s. These are among the most bought weapons. The AK-47 is the signature weapon of the Terrorists, and it is known for scoring one-shot headshot kills at any range, while the M4s are its counterparts. The M4A4 and M4A1-S are the signature weapons of the counter terrorists, and they each have their own utility, and players must make a decision between the two. The M4A1-S has a suppressor, twenty bullets in a magazine, significantly lower recoil than the A4 (with the suppressor on), and its bullets don’t have tracers, while the A4 has thirty bullets in a magazine and has more recoil than the A1-S. Players of all skill levels have different preferences, and there’s no “meta” when it comes to which gun is better, so it’s best to find the one that works for you. Both of the M4s can not get one-shot headshot kills at any range, and both cost more than the AK-47. The Galil and FAMAS are not as powerful as the other rifles, but cost less and are used when the player needs the money for other equipment.

The AUG and SG 553 are also assault rifles, and they each come equipped with a dot scope. While scoped, the guns have significantly lower recoil compared to other rifles, and their fire rate is cut in half. To compensate for the scope, these guns may have slower movement speeds than other rifles, their recoil patterns are very difficult to master, and they cost more than the other rifles. The SG 553 is the only weapon in the game with 100% armor penetration, meaning its damage output is unaffected by armor. The sniper rifles are also extremely widely used, and they vary in utility as well. The SSG 08 and the AWP are the game’s two bolt-action sniper rifles. The SSG08 costs only $1700, which makes it the cheapest rifle in the game. However, it can only get one-shot kills against armored opponents with headshots , but it makes up for this by having no decrease in movement speed while scoped in, has an “infinite” amount of bullets in practice (it is impossible to use up all of your ammunition in a competitive round), and players can fire this weapon at the apex of their jump very accurately (known as “jumpscouting”). The AWP costs significantly more than the scout, but this weapon is certainly worth its $4750 price tag. It can one-shot kill armored players anywhere except the legs and below where it’ll deal around eighty-five damage; (this is known as “legging” someone), which makes this weapon extremely deadly. A couple interesting mechanics about CS:GO’s sniper rifles is that they have instant zoom-in times, but it takes a fraction of a second for the weapons to be completely accurate. The G3SG1 and the SCAR-20 are almost always referred to as simply “autos” because they are fully automatic sniper rifles. These are among the most expensive weapons in the game, and are usually two-shot kills (except for headshots).
Best Guns in game [Players Opinion]
This List Is Not In a Specific Order

1.

AK-47

If you use this correctly it is extremely good. If you're bad however...+66

Dope and used a lot but need to fire one round

2.

M4A4

Have better recoil than M4A1-S

Accurate and high fire rate

Headshots Would Clean-Sweep if your good

Good accuracy+high rate of fire=good gun

3.

SG 553

Aiming reticule and a scope? Man, this gun is awesome! The SG 553 can be compared only to the extremely similar AUG. In my opinion, both are like, the BEST guns in CS:GO (emphasis on the full caps)new

This gun is just AMAZING. I use it in each and every game. Man, it has pinpoint precision with the scope.

It penetrates army VERY easily

Best for any range, good ammo and high penetration for armour.+1

4.

P250

I love p250 as well it is fast and I love it

My favorite pistol in the game - Phillip873

Great gun I use deagle for close maps this for long range

5.

MP9

Best gun in game+1

INSANELY underrated smg.
Amazing up close, good at medium range (MP7 is better for spraying at those ranges) great movement speed, a quick reload. It has a great jumping accuracy so try jumping around corners while firing to out peek opponents.
It's biggest drawback, like with the mac-10, is its fire rate coupled with a smaller mag size, so a bizon could more effectively stop a glock train, but in almost every occasion, I'd have this, over a bizon or mac-10. - HiBye+3

It shoot at incredible speed.and kill in about 0.8 secs+1

6.

M4A1-S

This gun just worknew

Amazing gun, it has no tracers so shooting through smoke is easier because they can't see the direction the shots are coming from. Also, better accuracy that M4A4 (at longer ranges) but doesn't shine like the M4A4 at those close to medium range situations. Long to medium range duels suit the M4A1-S better.+5

M4A4 is actually better than the M4A1 due to its larger magazine as well as its increased damage towards armors. The first shot accuracy of the A4 is the same as the A1, besides the recoil of the A4 is a bit higher than the A1.

This gun is perfect when it comes to good mobility decent firepower and low recoil+4

7.

AWP

AWP on 7? I knew here are many noobs.new

Powerful weapon

Takes skill but when you know how to position yourself and flick you will be a good awper for your team

This gun is a one hit kill above the waist. Even though movement speed and low fire rate are problems, they don't matter if you are good with the weapon and understand how to be an AWPer.

8

AUG

Its one of my main 2 gunsnew

Good accuracy and armour penetrationnew

This gun is the best, even for a super noob like me.

It is just amazing

9.

Five-Seven

Great pistol for eco rounds on the CT side. It takes one headshot to take out a helmet, crazy good for the price tag at 500.new

The Five-Seven has a very high rate of fire with a small recoil, thus making it a great weapon to pull out and spray to hit a moving enemy. It is only $500 and is an instant KO if you hit the head, which is very feasible considering the large magazine and overall solid accuracy. The only downside is that it is a CT-exclusive pistol.+3

Five seven is the best gun

OP

10.

P90

It is pretty good for beginners and they would get to the environment of csgo best gun without a doubt+1

I am a rusher, so I use this and it is perfect :P, my kdr is 2.11 because this and awp+1

This really is the perfect weapon for rushing. Has a high rate of fire to kill enemies faster, large clip size so that if you are rushing 2 enemies, you can kill one and go straight on to killing the other, and has a short reload time which makes you less vulnerable.+2

Takes no skill what so ever+6

The Contenders

11.

SSG 08

People secretly use this guy as it is a massive destructor in Deathmatches.

This is my go to weapon when my team needs a awper but can't afford an awp, just shoot for the head and it's a faster awp, if you miss just one more body shot and easy kill.

AWP but only works when you headshot, for litterally less than a 3rd of the price. truly epic

Best gun can buy every round+1

12.

Olofmeister

Olofmeister is op and should be nerfed

Best gun in the game

Yes 10/10 best gun

Bset gun in the game hands down
Weapon Summary
A good way to get to know each weapon is by using them in different game modes. If you turn on 'random weapons' in Deathmatch, you will be able to get a good feel for all of them. Other gamemodes bring you closer to weapons in their own way. Also, playing the introduction can help a lot.
For CS:GO Beginners
Introduction:

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a first-person-shooter (FPS) released in the year 2012 with many vastly different game modes, either implemented by Valve or the prospering community. These range from a game mode in which you have to work your way through a variety of weapons to get the golden knife and end the game with a knife kill, which is called Arms Race, to a game mode which is based on the possibilities of Counter-Strikes engine where you slide around on ramps in order to finish the course as fast as possible, known as Surf. The most prominent and important game mode, however, is competitive, in which you either have to destroy one of two or secure both bombsites, with a role switch after 15 rounds.

This guide will aim to help you to understand this easy to understand, but hard to master game with one of the most successful and ever expanding eSports scenes.

Counter-Strikes History:

Counter-Strike has now spanned over four games, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive now being the fourth game in the series. Especially CS 1.6, the first CS game, already had a big community and E-sports scene. CS: Source was not quite as big, and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero was mainly known for his single-player elements.

When Counter-Strike: Global Offensive first came out, it was clear that a lot of tweaking had to be done, with which Valve quickly started. Valve soon realized that the competitive scene would need a small guiding hand and they gave the scene exactly that when they implemented the Major Tournament system in 2013, Fnatic being the first team to win a Valve sponsored event with, at that time, 250 thousand dollars in the prize pool. The prize pool of the ELEAGUE Major has reached one million dollars, and it may increase in the future.

The Game:

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is based on the source engine and was developed by Hidden Path Entertainment and Valve Corporation. It is playable on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with PC being the most prominent platform to play it on and even though Cross-Platform play was planned originally this plan was scrapped later on.

Features:

In this paragraph I will show you what kind of features Counter-Strike: Global Offensive offers you.

GOTV
If you connect to one of these, either through the watch Tab in your starting screen or through a specific GOTV IP, you can view random games from other players or pro matches inside of your game. You can switch between players, follow grenades and change the point of view from first person to third person.

Cases
Cases are in-game items that you can get dropped after every kind of game you play or by buying them from the Community Market. The contents are weapon skins, completely cosmetic items, with different float and rarity values, which you can also sell and buy. Float defines how old and used a skin looks, rarity defines how high the chance was of you getting said skin. You need to open cases with keys you buy from the Steam Community Market. There are variations of this concept starting with Souvenir Cases, which you can get dropped while watching a match of the Valve sponsored Majors, who need no key, sticker capsules, who contain stickers but need a key, and signature sticker packages who need no key.

Matchmaking
Whenever you play competitive in Matchmaking, you get assigned an Elo-style number which tries to determine your skill level. If you win, it rises. If you lose, it goes down. Matchmaking tried to match you with people of similar skill in order to have fair games. Third party services like ESEA and FaceIt also have their version of Matchmaking in place.

CS:GO Guide For Beginners (Expanded)
Titles

Important points

Console/Field input those: X are usually variables in your input

The formatting of the later will change but I'll write down what is what when I change it.

First of all let us start off with the basics:

The "Preparation"

When launching CS:GO you will see a video, if that annoys you go into your Steam launch options for CS:GO (library->csgo[right click]->properties->set launch options) and type in -novid this will remove the video on start-up, while you are at it you may also want to type -console, -refresh X (X being your refresh rate) and if you need some more fps -high for high CPU priority.

A full list of all available launch options is here

The Console

If you start the game now it will display a developer console on start-up with which you can check the damage you did after you died, customize binds or your crosshair in styles 2-6.

To do such things on the fly while playing you should bind the console to a button mine is F11 in this case so just enter bind "X" "+toggleconsole" into the console, X being the key you want to use for opening the console.

Scripts

You can use this method to create buy- and usescripts in the manner of bind "X" "buy itemY" or make it do something for you bind "X" "use itemY".

Crosshair

You can also use the console to create you own crosshair (sort of).

First of all select a crosshairstyle with cl_crosshairstlye X the styles you can use are:

2=Classic, Crosshair is dynamic when moving

3=Classic Dynamic, Crosshair is very dynamic/expands a lot

4=Classic Static, Crosshair won't expand on movement or shooting

5=Dynamic, Crosshair will expand when shooting but not when moving

The next thing to do is to customize the thickness with cl_crosshairthickness X, lenght of the arms with cl_crosshairsize X and the gap between them with cl_crosshairgap X.

There are many more commands considering if you crosshair is dynamic or the colour and occupancy you want it to have which can be found on the end of the topic or you can just use a Crosshair Generator, remember though all this needs to be put into the console or a autoexec.cfg file.

What is a autoexec?

A autoexec is a file you can launch at the start of CS:GO that will automatically insert binds specified in the file.

Sounds great, how do I do that?

You need to create a file in the folder \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo\cfg which is called autoexec.cfg, if you do this with an editor save it as all types and name it autoexec.cfg so it doesn't say .txt in the end. The last thing to do is to exec it in your console with exec autoexec or add -autoexec to your launch options.

What do I write in it though?

Binds, crosshair commands, cvars and many more things, a full list of all available commands can be found at the Valve Wiki.

**TIP:**Here is a small video for all of this, lets say a TL;DR: HoltzmaN's CS:GO Lessons - Configs & Console Setup

Okay I get it, you want to know how to actually master the game and not learn about trivial uninteresting things right?

I'll change the formatting then to:

points of the topic

a small trick

Okay if that is done let us start with

Recoil:

Recoil or the movement of bullets somewhat randomly upwards from the centre of your crosshair.

Recoil comes from 2 sources.

The first reason: firing successive shots and moving while shooting.

While firing an AK47 for instance, you will see the 1st 3-5 bullets move in a fairly consistent upward motion. The AK47 tends to head a bit to the right as well where as the M4A1 is mostly upward. After the bullet pattern reaches a peak vertical rise you will see bullets tend to scatter left and right at about the same height. If you stop firing at any point, you will see your crosshair shrink back in. I see a lot of very new players just kinda spam click as if this accomplishes any sense of control. Your actual goal is stop moving (more on that later) to fire 3-4 bullets and move your crosshair in the opposite direction of the recoil, therefore placing every bullet relatively where you want it to go. After which stop firing, strafe to the side for half a second or so and once you feel your gun will fire accurately again, stop moving and repeat. It takes practice to get the feel of this. At closer ranges it may be a good idea to full out spray. The same principles apply but you'll have to get accustomed to watching the left-right movement of your spray and adjust your aim as it happens.

The second source of recoil is movement.

While smg's and pistols don't suffer nearly as much from this, firing a rifle or sniper while moving drastically reduces your chances of hitting what you are shooting at.

Unless you are RIGHT next to your target and you feel moving while shooting outweighs being an easy target you should always come to a complete stop before bursting/shooting.

You may have noticed you tend to slide slightly when you release a strafe key.

The motion is slight but you'll see a large improvement in accuracy if you eliminate this sliding before bursting. You do this by tapping the opposite direction movement key.

To make things clearer take the following example:

You are strafing to your right around a corner (which is obviously to your left) when you see an enemy. You release D (right strafe key) and quickly tap A (left strafe key) which will INSTANTLY bring you to a 100% complete stop allowing you to burst with full accuracy right away. If you fail to secure the kill move and repeat the process. This may sound complicated or a lot to remember but it will very quickly become completely second nature after you do it a few times and see the accuracy improvement it produces.

A video tutorial on spray control, counter strafing and stutter stepping can be found from many sources and Pro players, here is a small selection:

On to the next one:

Crosshair placement/movement

Or where to be looking and why as you move throughout the map.

At any point in the round you should have a clear idea of where the enemy could be and prepare for it.

Your crosshair should always be at head level and a few pixels off the edge of the corner you are expecting contact from.

As you round the corner keep your crosshair on the edge so the moment you see someone your crosshair is already more or less on their face.

As far as movement, you are playing a pc fps. Not some weird console game where you have to move around like a robot.

You should more or less NEVER run in a straight line at an enemy or a corner that an enemy could come around. Always be moving on a slant.

If you think about it, if you were to come around a corner and someone was running directly at you. The process of putting your crosshair on them and shooting would be no different than if they were standing still. Their movement would not take them out of your sights. Its not halo, you don't have to Look directly in the direction you are moving so take advantage of that.

Again, some videos from pros:

Steel: How to aim better

adreN: CS:GO Aiming help - Crosshair Placement

Okay, that covers the basics for now lets move on to the point you were waiting for, playing a match!

You generally should start by playing Deathmatch until you get a feel for the game and feel comfortable with your sensitivity and

Wait, you are playing with 3000 DPI and a sensitivity of 5?

You might want to take a look at AdreN's Sensitivity Guide and then come back. Don't say I didn't try to help you.

Done? Okay, we continue where we left off.

As I said you want to play Deathmatch and get a feel for the game and sensitivity before you hop into Matchmaking, casual mostly gives birth to bad habits like crouching for.
CS:GO guide for beginners (Expanded) Num: 2
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was released on August 21, 2012 by Valve Corporation and Hidden Path Entertainment. CS:GO is the most-played first-person shooter game on the Steam Store, and continues to have a growing player base. It is a tactical game with a competitive nature that anyone can get into. Players are divided into two teams of five players: Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists. As with any new video game, it can take some time to learn the ropes. This guide is designed to help out new players improve their experience when starting out in CS:GO.

Don’t get discouraged!

Like any multiplayer game, CS:GO has its share of trash-talkers, people who are actually good but warm up against noobs, underage children who excessively talk into their microphone, and the occasional hacker. Counter-Strike has been around since late 2000; when playing your first game, you should remember that some of these players may have been playing since then. If you don’t already know what “♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥” means, then you should look it up and expect to hear it hundreds if not thousands of times during your CS career.

Modes

CS:GO has many different game modes and different maps depending on the type of mode being played. The core game has five modes: Deathmatch, Casual, Competitive, Arms Race, and Demolition. Deathmatch is a combination of a typical FPS Team Deathmatch mode and a free-for-all mode. Team damage is disabled, and the “winner” of the match is not the team with the most kills, but rather, the individual who scored the most points. Different amounts of points are awarded for getting kills with different types of guns, and every so often a weapon will be designated as the “bonus weapon” and will award players with five extra points per kill. Deathmatch is an excellent way to warm-up before playing competitive games, and it gives players an easy way to hone their aim. Arms Race is a variation of Deathmatch, and it resembles “Gun Game” in many other FPS games. Each player starts with the same gun, and after killing enemies, he or she can advance through the different types of weapons until they secure a kill with the Golden Knife. Like Deathmatch, the players are divided into two teams, and the winner is the player who gets a kill with the Golden Knife.

The Casual, Demolition, and Competitive modes take on a much slower pace than the other modes. Players do not respawn in these modes, and teamwork plays a much bigger role here. These modes are similar to a typical Search and Destroy-style mode, in which the Terrorists need to plant a bomb at a bomb site, and the Counter-Terrorists need to stop them. The Terrorists can plant the bomb at a bomb site, or kill all the Counter-Terrorists to win the round. If the Counter-Terrorists kill all of the Terrorists before the bomb gets planted, they win the round. However, if the bomb gets planted, the Counter-Terrorists must defuse the bomb. The Casual and Competitive modes have two bomb sites, and there a couple rule differences between the two. In Casual, there is no friendly fire, all players are given armor for free, the money awarded for kills is halved, the games are half as long as Competitive games, and teams are up to twice as large. The Demolition mode is a combination of Arms Race and Casual. If a player gets a kill in Demolition, they will have a different gun in the next round. Demolition games also don’t have friendly fire, the games are about two-thirds the length of a Competitive game, and the maps only have one bomb site.
Economy, Gun Info., Aiming
There are six different sections in the buy menu.

Pistols

These guns are the cheapest and are usually bought when a team has low economy (another way of saying they're poor).

Heavy

Heavy weapons consist of shotguns and light machine guns, which are used very situationally.

SMG

SMGs are mostly seen in the early stages of each half, as the economy is still growing.

Rifles

These guns are the primary weapons that each side purchases when their economy is built and the category consists of fully automatic and semi-automatic guns.

Equipment

Equipment consists of kevlar, kevlar+helmet, a defuse kit, and the Zeus x27, which is a close range, one-shot, one-kill taser.

Grenades

Although grenades are cheap, they are one of the biggest game changers available. Whenever you have the money to buy grenades, it’s always worth it.

Economy

The game begins with a pistol round, which starts each player off with $800, which is enough to buy kevlar, a pistol, or grenades. After the initial rounds, there different purchase types depending on a team’s decision-making and economy.

Eco

Eco are rounds where a team buys pistol and/or kevlar in order to save for a full buy next round.

Force buy

A force buy is a round where a team decides to use up all of their economy to purchase either pistols or SMGs. Force buy rounds are a gamble for teams, as it can either lead them into an eco or full buy next round.

Full buy

A full buy is a round where players have full kevlar/helmet along with a primary rifle and grenades.

There are various factors that decide money earned during the round and at the end of each round for both the player and the whole team.

Aiming

One aspect that separates CS:GO from other e-sport FPS games is its aiming system. CS:GO features a recoil system that makes it difficult for most beginners to play. Recoil can be compensated for with a technique called spray control.

The image above displays a typical spray pattern from the CT and T primary rifles. With the crosshair staying at the bottom with the first shot, the full spray’s recoil brings the bullets up, slightly left, right, and then left again. To combat the recoil you should go in the opposite direction, starting at your target’s head.

Spraying is mostly used when committing on firing at mid to short distances. When it comes to longer shots, it is best to shoot a single bullet at a time, which is called tapping, or shoot in two or three round bursts.

There are some other factors that affect a gun’s recoil as well. CS:GO is not a run-and-gun game like Halo or Call of Duty. Running and walking greatly decrease the accuracy of guns, with the exception of most SMGs and pistols. It is best to stop and shoot when using rifles, and best to crouch when spraying.

Tips From Team Dignitas
CS:GO Matchmaking can be stressful, especially for freshly joined players. In this guide, I’ll try to explain to all the freshly joined newbies on how to approach CS:GO’s competitive world and how to improve.

Your mindset and your preparation

The way you get “into” the game is one of the most important things regarding competitive play. Of course, you’re not playing a ESL Major Final in front of a massive crowd with all your long-time teammates. Your head has to be clear of any distortion and, by that, I don’t mean you need to meditate before a game. If you want to take the game seriously, put your phone away, turn off the music and realize what you are doing there on the map. It sounds cliché, but focus only on the game. One thing you should do, take brakes. Pro teams don't play 10 matches directly one after the other and the same applies to you.

Once you got the correct mindset and are concentrating on the game, you should start with a warm-up. No one expects that this particular match will be your most incredible performance of all time. However, you should try to be consistent. This is not the easiest thing, but having a 15-minute warm-up on a FFA Server (see picture below) or on an aim map will get you set up. Usually those warm-ups result in a more consistent play and you don’t have to get used to the game while you’re already in the match.

Here you find some decent warm-up Maps:

Communicate the mandatory thing

Vocal cords are a great thing, but using them to communicate the important information is crucial.

At the beginning, tell your teammates where you want to go, what kind of role you are taking (rifle or AWP), and say when you use things like smokes and flashbangs. Clearly state the position of enemies when you hear steps or shots. You should never exaggerate with the information you’ve gathered. Don’t talk about irrelevant things and don’t assume possible scenarios. The number of rounds that have been0 lost by somebody saying “All B” when they were only 4 B and one lurking is higher than you might expect.

You are going to die. When that happens, you should make sure to relay important information to your teammates. To help with this, remember the letters PADHW.

Position – Where are the player(s)
Amount – How many players are there
Direction – Where are they looking and heading
HP – How many did you hit and how hard
Weaponry – What guns do they have.

A basic sentence would be “3 Players, A-Long going A, 1 -81 with AKs”. All your teammates will exactly know what is going on. That’s all the mandatory information you need to give once you’ve died. If you’re alive and you can hear enemy players, just inform your teammates about their positioning. It's all about making smart and easy calls. Just always remember to talk about the basic things. If your team is cool, you can also be funny once in a while, but keep your head in the game and focus on communicating.

If you don’t know the name of the position where the enemies are, there is a useful plug-in which names the sections on your map: CS:GO Minimap Callouts

Nobody speaks? You're the leader!

Sometimes everybody remains silent. First of all, check if sv_voiceenable 1 is on. Sounds odd, but you might forget it sometimes after some annoying people were screaming at you on a FFA-Server. As a quick tip, this command allows you to shut off the entire VoIP of the server, so you don’t hear anyone talking anymore. Once you've checked that it is still on and everything is still silent, you have to do something. You have to lead. For new players, this sounds tough, usually because you have a low game sense and might not know how to coordinate things in-game. Don’t worry, no one expects you to lead your team like a professional IGL (In-Game Leader). Start with the basic things.

When you’re on the Terrorist side, ask where the others want to push or which strategy they prefer to play. If they don’t come up with any possible plan, you have to coordinate the team just a little. Basically, you just tell your team where to push and when. To start, that’s more than enough.

Once you’ve switched sides and are the Counter-Terrorists, things get way easier. Players usually write their favorite position in the chat. If they don’t, just ask them and you already got a typical set-up. The classic playstyle for newcomers on CT-Side should be 2 A-Site, 2 B-Site and 1 middle. This can vary due to enemies, maps or some other circumstances.

Don't be the toxic one

Sometimes people do things wrong and make mistakes. Maybe in a game, one of your teammates does a lot of things wrong and it really drives you crazy. CS:GO is not only about individual performance, especially not during the first 500 hours of the game. To be really honest, you’ll find it extremely weird how you played months ago once you climb the skill ladder higher and higher. A team is only as strong as its weakest link. Probably everybody can relate to this scenario where one of your fellow players decreases your performance due to his skill. Some people can stay calm, but some get really furious.

Becoming outraged doesn’t help anybody. You’ve gotten killed and lost the round, or even the game, for your team. Screaming at other players or insulting them doesn’t improve anything. Just imagine you're having a bad day and want to play a little bit of CS. During that entire match, you might miss the easiest shots and be unable to concentrate. No one should give you compliments for bad plays, but no one should try to put your mood down even more. After a while, you’ll realize how important it is for yourself and your team to be calm, even in the worst situations.

You’re the filler

Once in a while, you’ll realize that there is an open spot. This is extremely noticeable when you play on the CT-Side. Nobody wants to take that certain position and you realize that this is a vulnerable spot that he enemies are taking advantage of that over and over again. Of course, you could say “One of you go there!” but I recommend new players to just go there yourself. Normally, you have a preferred position on the map and you’re feeling comfortable there. Sometimes you also have to try something new, even if you have no idea how to play there.

When you’re not familiar at all with a certain position, play safe. A classic example is middle doors on Dust 2. Playing the open angle to take the duel in middle is not necessary and if you don’t have any experience regarding that position, you have to be cautious. Try to think just for a moment how you could approach this kind of scenarios. Playing near to the doors on middle gives you the option to stay hidden, kill people pushing through doors and to hear possible movement on short. If you rethink this position just a second, you might realize players could sneak over short to A. This is why you should try to play middle, but not facing T-Spawn. Rather try to gather information about short and tell you teammates when somebody is coming there.

Review yourself, just really quick

Round after round, you may just die and that can be really annoying. Of course, you could just say “They’re better” or “hackers”. Both could be true, but taking a quick look at your play after you died is quite important. Doing in-depth analysis is not mandatory here, just basic thinking.

Was my positioning correct?
Was the angle a bit too tight or a bit too open?
Should I have used my nades a bit differently?

The following example is a classic scenario. Players push B-Tunnels on Dust 2 all the time. You as a CT have no chance. They kill you and in just a blink of an eye the entire enemy team is on the site before you can even react. But if you look back, there were actions you could take. First of all, use smokes and flashbangs to hold them off. Just throwing them in the direction of the tunnel is all you need to do in the beginning
Pro Settings and Best Mouses
Best Mouse Settings for CS:GO

After you have chosen which mouse you are going to use (check out our recommended mice for CS:GO here) you might be wondering which ingame settings you’re supposed to pick.

There are a couple mouse settings that have to be configured optimally. You might have already heard about terms like sensitivity, raw input or mouse acceleration. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know.

Many mouse settings also depend on the role you play. AWPers and Riflers generally use different settings, so please take note what kind of play style you prefer. Much like choosing the correct mouse, we recommend using settings values that are similar to those of the CS:GO pros. The most relevant value when controlling your mouse is called eDPI and it’s important that you understand what that term means. Sensitivity, eDPI and Zoom Sensitivity
eDPI (effective Dots Per Inch, sometimes referred to as true sensitivity) is the easiest way of comparing sensitivities. Both your mouse and your in-game settings influence the
speed your crosshair moves on screen. So we have to take a look at both. So what’s the difference between DPI and sensitivity?

Simply put, DPI is the hardware part and sensitivity is the software part of the equation. There’s a ton of different mice out there and they’re all slightly different, so in order to find a value that you can compare with the pros, you need the combination of mouse settings and personal sensitivity settings. This is called eDPI. If you take a look at each player’s settings individually the comparison wouldn’t make much sense. For example 800 dpi and a sensitivity of 2 is the same as 400 dpi and a sensitivity of 4. That’s why we use eDPI to compare sensitivity settings.

Calculating eDPI is easy though. It’s done by multiplying the DPI with the sensitivity:

Example: Scream is using a DPI of 400 and a sensitivity of 2.5

Formula: Sensitivity * DPI = eDPI

Answer: 400*2.5 = 1000
Try it out for yourself. Calculate your own eDPI and compare it to the pros. We have calculated an average for you:

AVERAGE EDPI OF CS:GO PROS
910
(COMBINED)
Now, sensitivity and eDPI is a very personal matter. Depending on your play style (e.g. whether you are an AWPer or a rifler) you might prefer a slower or faster sensitivity. So we compared the roles of players as well. Have a look:

AVERAGE EDPI OF CS:GO PROS:
895
(RIFLER)

AVERAGE EDPI OF CS:GO PROS:
972
(AWPER)

With an average of about 895, most Riflers are playing with eDPIs between 800 and 1000. They seem to prefer a slightly lower eDPI than the dedicated AWPers. This ensures perfect crosshair placement and steady aim.

Most competitive AWPers are using a slightly higher EDPI than their team mates. This seems fair. Some AWPers tend to favor a more active play style

DPI

Now that we understand eDPI, we can have a look at both arguments of the equation. DPI is the short form for Dots per Inch. It measures how sensitive your mouse is (higher=faster). If you use 400 DPI your mouse moves 400 pixels for every 2.54cm or 1 inch you move your mouse. You either change it in your mouses software (driver) or directly on your mouse depending on your manufacturer. As you can see in our graphs, most pros play on ‘lower’ DPI-ranges (mostly the mouse’s ‘native’ DPI) since higher DPI has occasional tracking issues.

Sensitivity

Since sensitivity is always dependant on the DPI and mouse you’re using we can’t give you meaningful averages or medians for these values. If you want to mimic the sensitivity of a certain pro player you can always have a look at the Pro Player Settings and Gear List. We do encourage you to calculate your own effective DPI though. This is on of the most important settings.

Zooming

Zoom Sensitivity refers to how fast you aim while being zoomed in using scoped rifles. This value is obviously important for AWPers. If you want to stay mobile while unscoped but need a steady aim while scoping you might want to consider increasing this value. You can find it in your CS:GO settings under Options -> Keyboard/Mouse -> Mouse Zoom Sensitivity.

On the right you can see the average zoom sensitivity of top tier AWPers.

There might be some arguments to be made about this number (and it’s also dependant on the mice the players are using) but it seems to be the case that most players are comfortable around the default setting, which is 1.

Mouse HZ, Mouse Acceleration & Raw Input
The polling rate (in Hz) of your mouse determines how often it sends information to your PC. Most mice have several options you can choose from.

With a polling rate of 125Hz the mouse position will be updated every 8 milliseconds, for example. 500Hz updates every 2 milliseconds and 1000Hz updates every millisecond. The difference between 125Hz and 500Hz is quite significant, as you can probably tell.

Because the difference between 500Hz and 1000Hz is almost negligible and some mice do have issues at 1000Hz you can see some professionals use 500Hz. You can change this setting in your mouse’s driver software.

Now about mouse acceleration: In general, turning this on is considered a bad idea. If you turn it on your movements will travel further based on how fast you move your mouse. This hinders your ability to develop muscle memory (which is a crucial thing to develop if you want to have consistent aim). Only a handful of CS:GO pros turn this setting on and we advise you to do the same.

You can find it in your options under Settings -> Keyboard/Mouse -> Mouse Acceleration. As mentioned though, we strongly recommend you turn it off.

If you turn on raw input, which we highly recommend, CS:GO ignores every input that comes from outside of the game like drivers and Windows. We generally don’t want any interference. Some pros keep their Raw Input off because there might be packet loss caused by it. You can find raw input in your CS:GO settings under Options -> Keyboard / Mouse -> Raw Input. If you keep it off, your windows sensitivity is an active factor in determining your eDPI. Please refer to our Pro Settings and Gear List to compare your settings in that case.

Best Crosshair's
n0thing – Best overall

n0thing is probably the most likable personality in CS GO. His crosshair is used by a large number of players and for a good reason. If you take a closer look at n0thing’s crosshair you might suspect it looks very similar to the default crosshair and you would be right. n0thing is using a very simple static crosshair with slight modifications.

The crosshair is of moderate size and is colored the normal neon green color. The thickness and length values are also a little higher than the default ones.

The end result is a beautiful robust crosshair that can be used across all situations. n0thing is a rifler but you can use it for AWPing as well because the crosshair is big enough while maintaining the center gap small for rifling.

We highly recommend you to check out n0thing’s detailed profile page on our site to learn more about his crosshair settings and gear.

KennyS – Best for AWPers

KennyS is one of the best AWPers to ever play the game. We chose him as our first example because of his rather simple crosshair. KennyS crosshair is a great example of the standard Pro player crosshair and we highly recommend every player to start with a crosshair similar to KennyS.kennyscrosshair

As you can tell from the picture to the right KennyS crosshair is very simple it features the popular light blue color and it looks like your normal static crosshair.

We highly recommend you to start with a simple crosshair and welcome you to copy KennyS exact crosshair settings from his profile page on our site.

Stewie2k – Best for Riflers

Stewie2K is one of the most popular CS GO players in the world. He is using a very small static crosshair. Small crosshairs are typically used by riflers to more easily hit headshots and improve their overall aimStewie2k crosshair. The reason Stewie and a lot of other riflers don’t use large crosshairs is that in most cases large crosshairs can slightly decrease your accuracy with weapons such as the AK-47 or M4A4. You will mostly see AWPers such as KennyS use bigger crosshairs to more easily envision their AWP scope.

We recommend you to use Stewie2k’s crosshair if you are a rifler and already possess a decent aim as smaller crosshairs tend to have a steeper learning curve.

You can check out Stewie’s exact crosshair settings on his dedicated page on our website.

F0rest – Best for AWP/Rifler (Hybrids)

F0rest crosshair from youtubeF0rest is one of the best players in the history of counter strike. We have seen F0rest alternate between a few different types of crosshairs. It seems as he has finally settled with his current yellowish crosshair. His crosshair is perfect for those of you who double as both AWPers and Riflers.

The reason F0rest’s crosshair is so good for both AWPers and Riflers is its color and size. F0rest is using a fairly neutral color and an overall medium size. This combination allows the user to easily hit headshots thanks to the relative size and color and also helps the player envision an AWP scope thanks to the rather long lines.

We highly recommend you to use F0rest’s crosshair if you are playing as an AWPer/Rifler.

Olofmeister – Best for veterans

Olofmeister is another worlds class player and probably the best player on our list. Olofmeister is using the most advanced crosshair on our list for the simple fact that it is white. White crosshairs are the best if you get Olofmeister crosshairused to them, other than the unusual color Olofmeister is using pretty standard thickness and length parameters.

We highly recommend you to start with some of the other crosshairs on this list before you start using this type of partially transparent crosshairs.

That being said, with enough practice you can get proficient with a white crosshair and enjoy the most flawless aiming experience thanks to the fact that white crosshairs won’t interfere with anything going on in the game and won’t be a distraction or hide any valuable information from your sight.
Quick Tip
Quick Tip - Brightness Levels and Aspect Ratio in Windows Settings:
There are a couple of things you might want to take care of in your windows settings if you are having trouble changing things in-game or just you want to increase your brightness levels even further than possible ingame.
First of all you want to check if you have turned your refresh rate up as high as your monitor can (144hz):

Nvidia: Right click on your desktop -> Nvidia Control Panel -> Adjust desktop size and position -> Refresh rate. In this section you can also change the scaling mode to either: Aspect ratio for black bars or Full-screen for stretched. After that we click on: Adjust desktop color settings. We also want to change the brightness. Click on adjust desktop colour settings in the Nvidia color settings and then set the Digital Brightness Slider to 70-100% depending on how bright you want your game to be. This helps immensely with spotting enemies in darker places.
AMD: Right click on your Desktop -> AMD Radeon Graphics -> My Digital Flatpanels -> Custom Resolutions -> Refresh Rate. For stretched or Fullscreen you want to stay in My Digital Flatpanels -> Properties. To change your brightness you go on Display color and change the saturation slider to your likings.

A lot of pros are using increased saturation settings as well. You might want to increase them to 75%.

Description
Are you a regular CS:GO player but aren’t sure what you can do to reach a higher level of play? Are you curious about how CS:GO pros think when they play and practice? If so, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - Play Like a Pro is your opportunity to learn skills and strategies from a seasoned professional, gain a deeper understanding of fundamental game concepts, and become a more well-rounded competitor.

My name is Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert and I’ve been playing Counter-Strike for 18 years, with the last decade of my career playing competitively with top-level teams such as Evil Geniuses in CS 1.6 and Cloud9 for the majority of CS:GO. During my time as a pro I spent at least a few days a week coaching individuals playing CS:GO at various levels. After multiple years of individual coaching, I found that teaching the community as a whole via my Twitch streams and YouTube videos was more effective in reaching many more people! I’ve wanted to create a course like this for awhile and have a collection of tips and tricks learned over my decade of competitive experience to share with aspiring CS:GO players. My goal is to help shape how you view and play the game, and in the end create more well rounded players out of everyone who takes this course.

This course is built for players familiar with CS:GO who aspire to play at a higher level. I will help you master various skills by providing lectures, in-game examples, and practical tips that apply to each topic. Specifically, this course will cover:

*Intro sections include background on myself and my journey to pro, before jumping into the following*

Setting up CS:GO and finding the configuration that works for you

Mastering game mechanics, including:

Aiming

Crosshair placement

Pro Settings And Best Mouses Num: 2
Best CS:GO Resolution, Aspect Ratio and Video Settings

You can find many different opinions on CS:GO Video settings. Pretty much all of the settings we discuss in this article have advantages and disadvantages. Please note that we can have a look at the pros and cons of each resolution, aspect ratio and video settings but ultimately you have to decide which one suits you best.

Our main goal is to configure the game in the least demanding way possible while maintaining all upsides that can be beneficial to your competitive performance.

Best Resolution and Aspect Ratio for CS:GO

Resolution and Aspect ratio might be the most obviously noticeable changes you can make to your configuration. It is also very important and can have severe impact on both your frame rates and style of play.

First of all there are 3 Aspect ratios: 16:9, 16:10, 4:3 (5:4). If you are not playing 16:9 you can also choose between different scaling modes (black bars and stretched).

As you can see on our charts to the right, most pros play with an aspect ratio of 4:3. This might easily be the most controversial topic on our list.

In general it is strongly advised to play with a 16:9 aspect ratio, since you actually see more on your screen. We recommend you to use it if you have a top tier gaming PC. You want to keep your frame rates above 144 at all times.

However, if you are not able to reach these – quite high – fps standards, reducing the resolution can increase your fps tremendously.

We are also very aware of the argument that reducing your aspect ratio can help you ‘focus’ more on the important part of your screen (the middle) but we think this consideration is negligible.

This is a highly personal matter that is hugely dependant on each individual. A lot of pros are also still on their resolutions from earlier iterations of the game and use them because they have become so used to them.

In summary, keep the resolution and aspect ratio low if you are below the critical 144 frames threshold. Stretching a 4:3 resolution can help you hitting some enemies at times but distorts your screen to some degree. If you are running the newest gaming rig, there should be no problem with playing at 16:9.

You can change your Resolution and Aspect ratio in your CS:GO settings under Options -> Video Settings

Best Keyboard Settings for CS:GO

Keyboard settings and having a good mechanical keyboard are severely underrated. A keyboard that doesn’t register your keystrokes every time you press a button is a huge liability. It helps a great deal with your movement and having keybinds for the wide range of grenades will often times spare you the seconds you need.

Buybinds are mostly just for convenience, but what actually does something for you is binding your grenades. Don’t ever cycle through your grenades by pressing 4 or using your mousewheel. Bind them seperately to spare yourself important milliseconds to seconds. There are still a couple of pros that cycle through the nades by pressing 4 multiple times, but that’s due to habit and not the right way to do it. You can find your grenadebinds here:
CS:GO settings -> Options -> Keyboard / Mouse.

Otherwise you can also use the config/autoexec in the later part of this guide to have exactly the same settings as throughout this guide. These binds will also make you able to buy said grenades with the same button.

bind "f" "buy flashbang; use weapon_knife; use weapon_flashbang"

bind "t" "buy smokegrenade; use weapon_knife; use weapon_smokegrenade"

bind "q" "buy hegrenade; use weapon_knife; use weapon_hegrenade"

bind "r" "buy incgrenade; buy molotov; use weapon_knife; use weapon_molotov; use weapon_incgrenade"

bind "c" "buy decoy; use weapon_knife; use weapon_decoy"

By using these binds you will be able to throw grenades way faster, since the knife breaks your grenade throw animation.

Best Audio Settings for CS:GO
Let’s take a deeper look at audio settings. Players often disregard this aspect of the game because they think it’s not as important as other settings, but you’d be wrong to make that same mistake. Audio is absolutely crucial in this game.

While audio is a very important aspect to the CS games, the audio engine in CS:GO certainly isn’t the best one out there. To make the best of this subpar audio engine you’ll want your configuration to Headphones. You can find it under: Settings -> Options -> Audio -> Speaker Configuration -> Headphones.

This can make it easier to hear footsteps when using your headphones. And you should be using headphones for this game. Speakers generally aren’t an option, since the game is so heavily reliant on audio.

Since audio settings are different from headset to headset and personal noise tolerance varies you’ll have to do some tweaking yourself when it comes to Master Volume. Just make sure you’re able to hear important things such as footsteps without destroying your ears.

The next settings are our personal recommendation so please feel free to add them to your config:

volume "0.2"

voice_enable "1"

voice_scale "1"

windows_speaker_config "1"

snd_musicvolume "0.04"

snd_tensecondwarning_volume "1"

snd_menumusic_volume "0"

snd_roundend_volume "0"

snd_roundstart_volume "0"

snd_deathcamera_volume "0"

snd_mapobjective_volume "0"

Launch Options & Config
Launch options can have a significant impact on your game as well. The config is a list of commands that executes once you start your game. Using these settings will make your game run as smoothly as possible.

So how do I set the launch options & config/autoexec?
To set your launch options go into your steam library, right click on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive -> properties -> set launch options and copy paste the following:

-freq 144 -console -novid -tickrate 128

If you are using a 60hz monitor use these launch options:
-freq 60 -console -novid -tickrate 128

After that we go here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\YOURSTEAMID\730\local\cfg – this is where you place your config/autoexec.

Another great option is to use our Player Database to download the config of your favorite pro.
Best Radar Settings for CS:GO
The radar settings are incredibly important but ignored by most new players. Just like you get an enormous amount of information through your sound you can get game-deciding information through your radar.

The radar in CS:GO is another valuable source of information. The default radar isn’t the best though and might cause you to miss crucial info. So, we’ve compiled this set of settings for you to use to get the best out of your radar.

cl_hud_radar_scale "0.9"

cl_radar_scale "0.4"

cl_radar_always_centered "0"

These are the basic settings to have the full overview in your minimap. For a perfectly setup radar you might also want to consider downloading a config from our Player Database.

Quick Tip: Picking Up Weapons
If you find a weapon on the ground from a dead player, you can take it. You’ll soon find weapons that favour your style of play.

The goal is to win the game by working together as a team, and the most successful teams will develop elaborate strategies to gain an advantage over the other team.
Game Modes / Types
Let’s talk about CS:GO’s game types. The main game style of CS:GO can be split into two different maps types. The most popular is Defuse, and if you happen to watch a competitive CS:GO match between pro teams, the chances are it is this mode that is being played.

Terrorists start with a bomb and can choose one of two bombsites to plant it at. The Counter Terrorists start closer to those sites and must defend. Either team can win by eliminating the other team completely, or by detonating or defusing the bomb. If time runs out, Counter Terrorists win.

In Hostage rescue maps, it’s the exact opposite. Terrorist start with two hostages, which the Counter Terrorists must reach, rescue and return to their start zone—they only need to save one of the hostages to win the round. Once again, you can also win by killing the other team, and the Terrorists can run down the clock and win on time.

Casual Vs Competitive mode

Defuse and Hostage mode can be played casually or competitively. Casual is played on a 10v10 server, with no team killing and far more forgiving. There is no penalty for leaving, its open to anybody of any skill level, and you only have to reach eight rounds to win.

Competitive mode is ranked, where you are placed in a 5v5 game with balanced teams and your score is calculated by how well you perform and whether you win. Leaving mid-game will lead to a temporary band from competitive mode, you can attack and block members of your team, and the first to 16 rounds wins.

If you die, you remain dead until the current round is over, which can take up to several minutes. After each round, depending on how you have done and which team won, you are award money for bigger and better weapons and items.

You can play on one side for 15 rounds and then you will be switched to the other. If you win 10 games in this mode, you will get a badge to show how well you have performed compared to everyone else in the game. This rank can go up or down, depending on whether you get better or worse.

Counter Terrorists Vs Terrorists

The two sides, Counter Terrorists and Terrorists, are relatively similar. They share many of the same guns, but there are a few differences. Terrorists have access to more powerful and marginally cheaper weapons—though Counter Terrorists weapons seem to be more accurate.
Modes Num: 2
Modes
Valve added a bunch of new modes to CS:GO, and most of them are free to play. The new modes completely change the mechanics of the game, and new ones are featured each week. The War Games mode is a collection of minigame-style modes that each take place on one or two specific maps and is free to play. Heavy Assault Suit plays like Casual, except players can buy a super durable suit of armor for $6,000. The armor makes players very slow and they can’t buy any rifles. Those who can afford it can take a ton of damage and walk around the map like tanks. Trigger Discipline is also like Casual, but players lose health for every missed shot until they go all the way down to 1 HP. Headshots Only is the traditional Deathmatch mode except body shots do no damage. Hunters-Gatherers is also like Deathmatch, except kills only count if players pick up the dog tags dropped by dead players. Picking up enemy tags scores a point for your team, and picking up friendly tags prevents the enemies from stealing them. This mode is similar to Kill Confirmed in other video games like Call of Duty. tab Stab Zap restricts players to a knife and a Zeus that recharges after 30 seconds. Players can only buy grenades, and THEY CAN DROP AND PICK UP OTHER ZEUSES OFF OF THE GROUND. This can be extremely useful because many players often forget this since Zeuses can no longer be dropped outside of this mode. 30 seconds is a very long time, so it is usually a good idea to drop your Zeus right after you use it to pick up one that has been sitting for awhile. Stab Stab Zap takes place on Bomb Defusal maps, so it might be a good idea to put pressure on the Counter Terrorists by planting early, and buying a Smoke Grenade and ninja defusing because people can’t just spam shots through the smoke.

The Flying Scoutsman mode is Valve’s interpretation of the popular community mode, Scouts/Knives. As the name suggests, players are only allowed to use the SSG08 and their Knife. However, this mode has a couple major twists: there is almost no movement inaccuracy, and the gravity is very low. This means that players can run and jump while maintaining sharp accuracy with their Scouts. The new map Dizzy feels like it was scaled upwards so players can jump from the ground to on top of the buildings, and players who know how to “surf” will enjoy the small sections of slanted walls on the edge of the buildings. I’ve played this map more than any other, and I’ve learned some tips that are quite helpful. Firstly, this map doesn’t have a lot of cover which makes it very easy to be shot from anywhere. The underground section of the map isn’t commonly used, so sometimes you can sneak through and jump out into the middle of the map or run all the way to the other team’s spawn.

Two new competitive-style modes were added and are also free to play. The first one is Wingman, and is a two-versus-two mode. (The description says the mode is played on “CS:GO’s single-bombsite maps” but at the time of me writing this it hasn’t been available in the rotation.) The other mode is called Weapons Expert, and it is a five-versus-five mode that makes survival extremely important. Players can only buy each weapon once, so it’ll take coordination (and probably a lot of save rounds) to preserve weapons. A new ranking system was added like in traditional Competitive Matchmaking to match up evenly-matched players (at the time of me making this article, details about the rank system haven’t been released). If duos don’t like Wingman, there is another way to enjoy a special mode with a friend. As with many previous Operations, the two-player Guardian campaign makes a prominent appearance. In these modes, the two players are pitted against waves of bots and need to defend a bomb site while doing certain challenges. These challenges are usually getting kills with specific weapons. Sometimes, players might not be able to buy weapons, or they need to get kills with Terrorist-specific weapons like the AK-47. This mode is exclusive to Operation pass members.
Quick Tip: How to shoot people
Unlike other games, weapons in CS:GO require a fair bit of skill to master. If you hold down the fire button or shoot when moving, you are very unlikely to hit anything. There is no quick way to master this, it is a case of practicing and experience.

Be prepared, you will die a lot before you are able to deal out the same amount of damage to your opponents. I’d argue that with decent aim, you can fight your way up to the gold ranks in competitive play or even higher.

First and foremost, stand still and aim somewhere, and fire once. You’ll see that it hits close to where you were aiming! You can always rely on this method if your spray-and-pray tactics fail you.

Crouching will improve your accuracy further, as will by using a scope if your weapon has one. Most don’t and even if they do, you will only have to use it at extremely long ranges. Of course, it is a bit different with sniper rifles, since when you are not looking down the scope you have no crosshair and its accuracy will be very poor.

-change delay to 0.25-

-change static tar. duration to 0.50-

-this may seem a tad bit fast at first but you should be able to get the hang of it. If not you can raise the static tar. duration to 0.75-

-shoot or knife whichever gun you want on the wall then go to level 2 (shoot it in the middle -1,2,3,4-) and then press start right next to it-

-try to keep your crosshair on the middle of the board until a target spawn. shoot the target and move your crosshair back to the middle then when the next target spawns flick to it and repeat-

MAP CALL-OUTS

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=157442340

-#learn'em-

-On a real note though, a good way to learn a map is to just simply run and jump around the map and kind of get a feel for it.-

-to easily do this you need to open counter strike and in the top right click options -> game settings -> forth option is "enable developer console". change it to a yes instead of no. After that, press your "`" which is above the tab key. It comes up with a window and now you are going to type in a specific command to load up a specific map

"map de_dust2"

"map de_train"

"map de_mirage"

"map de_inferno"

"map de_cobblestone"

"map de_overpass"

"map de_cache"

-Now you may be thinking, "damn these pesky bots are getting in the way"-

-well there is a command for that ;)-

-"bot_kick" will boot the pesky bots right out of the game-

-And "mp_roundtime_defuse 60" will give you 60 minutes to run around. Just do mp_restartgame 1 to make the command take effect.-

-in addition to all this if you use type, bind "key" noclip ,in the console you will be able to fly around the map. its much faster than running.

Maps
As with every Operation, new maps have been added to CS:GO that offer unique ways to play the game. These maps are free to play, and they can be accessed from the main menu. There are two Hostage Rescue maps: Agency and Insertion. Agency was previously featured in Operation Bloodhound, Phoenix, and Bravo. Insertion was featured in Operation Breakout, and each team can pick their spawn location. There are also five new Bomb Defusal maps: Black Gold, Austria, Lite, Shipped, and Thrill. Black Gold is returning from Operation Breakout, and all of the other maps are brand new. Valve also added a special map specific to the new Flying Scoutsman mode called Dizzy. This map was clearly designed for this mode, as the buildings are very tall and the map size is quite small.

How to fix CS:GO Crashing
6 fixes for CS GO crashing

All the screenshots below are from Windows 10, but the fixes also work in Windows 8.1 and 7. Make sure you have at least 4GB of RAM installed in your computer.
Just work from top down the list until you get CS:GO up and running again:
Update your graphics driver
Stop overclocking your GPU
Verify integrity of game files
Launch CSGO in -autoconfig or -safe mode
Reacquire all CSGO game files
Change fastprox.dll to fastprox.dllold

Fix 1: Update your graphics driver
One of the most common causes of this problem is an outdated or a faulty graphics driver. So you should update your graphics driver to see if it fixes the issue. If you don’t have the time, patience or skills to update the driver manually, you can do it automatically with Driver Easy.

Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to be troubled by the wrong driver you would be downloading, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing. Driver Easy handles it all.

You can update your drivers automatically with either FREE or the Pro version of Driver Easy. But with the Pro version it takes just 2 clicks (and you get full support and a 30-day money back guarantee):

Download and install Driver Easy.
Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers. You can also click Update to do it for free if you like, but it’s partly manual.
Restart your computer and hopefully your CS:GO runs smoothly now. 🙂

Fix 2: Stop overclocking your GPU
Overlocking the GPU is a good method to try if you wish for a faster and smoother game performance. But pushing it too high may cause the game crashing issue.

If you ever overlocked you GPU and encounter the CS:GO crashing issue,
you can try lowering it back to the default setting. If not, or it doesn’t help with the situation, then move on to Fix 3.

Fix 3: Verify integrity of game files
You may have this CSGO crashing issue if some files of your game installation are corrupt or have been deleted as a false positive by antivirus programs. So you can verify the integrity of game files to see if it fixes the issue.

To do so:

1) In Steam, go to LIBRARY.

2) In your list of games, locate and right-click on Counter -Strike: Global Offensive in your list of games and click Properties. Click LOCAL FILES > VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES...
