Rule 1: Avoid cosplay armor.
You’ve seen it, and if you sought this guide out for assistance, you’ve probably done it too. Unless you’re about to Cheat Engine your name to break the character limit, you will never be able to do a full “Solaire of Astora” cosplay. And even if you did, your cosplay has been so overdone that even some sunbros scoff. Same goes for the Undead Legion and Wolf Knight sets.

These costumes are so overused that every piece of it is completely unusable in your fashion, as they are immediately distinguishable from the rest of your clothing, and completely break the cohesiveness of your outfit. Some other notable offenders include the Slave Knight, Dancer, Gundyr, Xanthous, Ringed Knight, Iron Dragonslayer, and Dark sets.

With some attention to detail and proper color choices, you can make any one part of these work decently. However, your fashion souls will be severely limited compared to those who avoid these sets altogether.
Rule 2: Color-coordination or bust.
If you’ve ever decided to wear a part of the Shadow set with any other gear, chances are you completely understand why color-coordination is extremely important. Without proper color choice, any outfit can look terrible. With coordination, however any outfit can look great. Take, for example, the Dancer’s Crown with the Wolf Knight Armor.

We’ve broken the first rule twice, and yet somehow the outfit looks good enough to use thanks to the matching blues on each piece. Now, look at Lothric Knight’s Armor with Lorian’s Helm.

These two pieces are adaptable and fashionable, yet look jarring due to their unmatched nature. Simply having the same color makes all the difference.

Please note that the color isn’t the only thing that matters. The material is also very important. Have you ever tried matching a Ringed Knight piece with an Iron Dragonslayer piece? They look similar, but when you close the menu, the difference in lightness is apparent.

If you want to figure this out, I highly recommend you define four categories of metal: Matte black, metallic black, silver, and golden. Combining any armor from two different categories will result in a very ugly outfit. One other thing to note:
Rule 3: No matter how hard you try, the golden-looking sets will never mix.
These include: Armor of Favor, Dragonslayer, Brass, Sunset, and Smough sets. Some pieces, such as the Eastern set, aren’t technically golden but still have the same problem; they are all slightly different in design, saturation, and reflectiveness. Despite coming from the same boss fight, the Dragonslayer and Smough sets don’t even have the same shimmer; the Dragonslayer set glows in the sun whereas Smough’s set is comparatively dull.

If you want a unique fashion, avoid picking more than one gold set, and if possible, avoid them entirely. The Sunset Helm is the only golden piece that has any adaptability whatsoever, thanks to it’s cloth-covered lower half.
Rule 4: Indicate your build through your outfit.
Take a look at the outfits below. In your brain, think of the offensive stat they are invested in the most.

If you thought ‘strength, faith, intelligence, dexterity’, you would be correct. In most cases, you will accidentally indicate what type of build you are running based on your outfit. Most healers wear the Cleric’s Robe, most dexterity players will prefer lighter gear, etc. It’s all part of the self-image of each player. By selecting their clothing, they are effectively dressing up to play a role of their choosing.

Acknowledge these stereotypes and design your outfit around your self-image. That is the fastest way to let your teammates know what your role is.

Here’s a bonus tip: You may have noticed that in all of those pictures, I didn’t change my gauntlets or leggings once. Your choice in helmet and armor is far more influential to your look than gauntlets or leggings.
Conclusion: Whatever you do, don’t be edgy.
There’s nothing really wrong with pretending to be the soldier off the cover of Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory with the Fallen Knight set, but we can all kind of rag on it anyway. Probably because you use the Irithyll Straight Sword and point down at everything.

Pretending to be an Abyss Watcher is cool and all, but I’ve seen atleast a dozen cosplayers with better PvP skills than you who don’t spam the Legion Etiquette gesture.

Artorias was a great boss from Dark Souls 1, but you really don’t do service to him, and you should probably trade in all that stuff for a good old fashioned Havel cosplay.

One thing I find funny is that you can pacify invaders and even fight clubs for a moment if you are wearing the Catarina set and using the "Toast" gesture

second off edgy can still look really good, gundyr and dark look really good, same with gundyr and dragonslayer, i've always been a huge gundyr fan but i didn't wanna do actual cosplay of him, his armor looks cool and i wanna wear it so bad but i cant because then it would be considered cosplay. what i did with this is mixed and matched dragonslayer and dark with it, including slapping curse ward shield with it and it looked awesome. weapons can make your fashion 100x better if you use it correctly :praisesun:

alright first off i've mixed and matched brass and smough together and they look identical in color and lighting; try throwing smough's gloves on brass set, they look really good together :praisesun:

I have to disagree with this. I think that using the the armor sets is the way to go, personally I only use Artorias's armor but thats because he was the reason I ever started playing the game.

I suggest that the torso piece of the firekeeper robe looks great for ladies, and mixes well with a lot of things. You'd be surprised. Try it with the cleric pants and gloves.

-_- Some is a lie. All golden does not match? Easy helm of favor and brass set. :/
