Orbis Terrarum, the Roman Map

Leírás
Background
This map is based on a reconstruction of the Orbis Terrarum ("the circle of the world") completed by Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa (Augustus Caesar's son-in-law) in A.D. 20, and may represent how the ancient Romans saw the world. With Asia in the east at the top of the map, the three continents of the known world are in similar proportions. The egocentric emphasis upon Rome is reflected in the expanded form of Italy, and the fact that most of the area of the map is devoted to the Roman Empire while other regions such as India, Seres, Scythia and Sarmatia are reduced to small outlying regions on the periphery.

[This is the first Civ 5 map I have ever created; all comments are welcome!]

Design features
  • Every single tile and item, including the landscape, features and resources, is carefully hand placed
  • The large number of hills and mountains is intended to recreate the difficulty in traversing long distances in the antiquity
  • Choke points are aplenty both on land and at sea, which means that you have to think carefully about where to place cities / forts / citadels / troops
  • Resources, strategic, luxury and bonus, are placed with reference to their real world distribution (to the best of my knowledge after researching numerous maps)
  • Taking into account the geographic context of each starting location, I have tried to make the starting location of each civ as balanced as possible, meaning that every civ should have around the same space / possibility of expansion (unlike on a "real world" map with an overcrowded Europe and too much space in Siberia and Central Asia).

Details
Map size: 72 x 80

Requirements: Brave New World and Gods & Kings

22 Playable Civs:
Europe (9 civs)
  • Roman

  • Greek
  • Russian
Africa (5 civs)
  • Moroccan
  • Carthaginian
  • Ethiopian
  • Songhai
  • Egyptian
Asia (8 civs)
  • Hunnic
  • Ottoman

  • Assyrian
  • Babylonian
  • Persian

16 City States

  • Mercantile (4): Colombo, Tyre, Samarkand, Zurich
  • Militaristic (2): Hanoi, Valletta

Installation
To play with pre-placed starting locations (rather than randomized locations), you need to
  1. Choose MODS on the start menu
  2. Select Orbis Terrarum, the Roman Map
  3. SINGLE PLAYER --> SET UP GAME --> Select Map Type --> Additional Maps --> Orbis Terrarum, the Roman Map
  4. Tick the Load Scenario check box

If you cannot find the map when setting up the game, you may need to manually copy the map from the mod folder ( Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\Orbis Terrarum, the Roman Map (v 1)\orbis_terrarum.Civ5Map ) to your civ 5 maps folder ( Documents\My Games\Civ5\Maps ) for the game to pick it up.

its a really good map/mod/scenario,but it tends to suddenly and unexpectantly crash after a few turns,no matter what civ you play as (i tried rome, france, germany, persia, morroco, and china, but i havent tried them all yet),so if that could be fixed i think it would be made much better! also i find that spain AItends to...well,not settle anywhere due to thier capitol being right in the center of iberia, meaning that they cant really settle without mods to reduce/eliminate city distances,so mabye you could replace them with Portugal?

PLEASE HELP!!! SOMBODY!!! Unsure of how to troubleshoot this**::
~~ ~~
I am running several mods attempting to start a new game. When I setup a new game using RAC, CIV V crashes 15-20's into the loading screen.
I am unsure which of these mods below cause conflict when using RAC.
All work fine without RAC (with the exception of Extra victory conditions, that requires RAC)::

Extra Victory Conditions
thecrazyscotsman's omnibus mod
Barbarians Evolved
Plus Three Unique Components
Info Addict
Fortress Borders
After the Revolution
Economics
Future Worlds

(I have more mods, but they just add more units, buildings, wonders, and other small changes. I can't, for the life of me, see being the cause.)

Oh, ok! I get it now! Nice work on the map btw, didn't mention that earlier

@CarlmanZ

I see. With player civs I would like to give players the freedom to choose exactly where they want to put their capital. With city states, which are non-playable, the freedom isn't necessary. Plus I can put city states closer together than it is allowed with settlers (see Tyre and Jerusalem as an example).

@Skylar Saphyr
No, I mean. The regular civs are set to spawn in certain places, but they aren't actually there yet. City States, on the other hand, ARE already there. Why is that? To prevent players from stealing their settler on turn one?

@CarlmanZ
The regular civs do have pre-placed starting locations (TSL): just follow the instructions above and you'll begin the game with a settler at the approximately "right" place, e.g. in the south of England next to the Thames if you're playing Elizabeth. I have a couple of screenshots above that illustrate how the world looks at Turn 0.
