BucketWheelExcavator

Description
Scrap Mechanic impression of a Bucket-Wheel Excavator, one of the largest land vehicles in the world.

Features
  • Excavator can be driven as a vehicle
  • A lift to get to the driver seat (us lazy engineers!)
  • Crane arm can be raised and lowered seamlessly with no detents
  • Crane can be rotated through 360° with no detents
  • Automatically balancing counter-weight
Operation
  • Button 1: Raise crane arm
  • Button 2: Lower crane arm
  • Switch 3: Lock / Unlock crane arm. Locking the crane will prevent the arm lift assembly from slipping.
  • Button 4: Rotate crane LEFT
  • Button 5: Rotate crane RIGHT
  • Switch 6: Raise / Lower crane support
  • Switch 7: Start / Stop bucket wheel

Do's and Don't's
  • When you first build it on your lift, make sure you lower the lift so the drive wheels almost touch the ground. If the excavator drops too far to the ground, the lift assembly will swing backwards instead of forward. Seems like the game physics need a bit of work there :0)
  • Wait for the lift assembly hook to lower onto its rest on the crane arm before using it. There is no other way to implement a diagonal force; have to build it horizontally and let gravity do its thing when the excavator comes off the player's lift.
  • CG / Balance out of tolerance is indicated by a low / high pitch audible tone. No need to be alarmed, the tone just means that the balancing mechanism is working to get things back within limits.

This is really just a functional skeleton build. Feel free to add all sorts of bodywork to make it look pretty. Link any screenshots in the comments here, I'd love to see them! :0)

The Modpack

** UPDATES **
  • Modified Balancing Assembly. Hopefully it doesn't cause FPS drops anymore.
  • Added automatic latch for crane hook. Sadly, it doesn't work so well when the glitchy physics cause the hook to swivel.
  • Added detent to prevent crane arm lift assembly from swinging backwards over the top.
  • Added top and rear balance trussing.
