Corrupt Update Files FIX w/ Guide
By Blueberry Yum Yum ˚¬˚
This guide is intended to fix the issue some players may have when updating/installing a game that gives you the error "Corrupt Update Files". There may be other fixes that people know about that worked for them and if so i encourage you to share your method on this guide.

I would like to point out that this guide was written as the steps involved helped me to correct this issue for myself and hopefully for those reading it in future.

Because i have recently had this issue affect me on CSGO, where the game closes itself and returns me to desktop after several minutes, there have been very little guides or help on this subject that actually work and i have had to try many different methods to find a fix. Finally i was able to find a way to correct this issue and it worked.

If you are suffering from this issue when downloading a game, try these steps as this worked for me the 1st time i tried it so i decided to make a guide that hopefully can help others.

STEPS:
1. Uninstall Game (Any game that gives you the error of corrupt update files)

2. Navigate to > View > Settings > Downloads

3. Firstly, Clear Download Cache which is located at the bottom

4. MOST IMPORTANT STEP
Change the Download Region to another location

Because i am from the UK and set it to Manchester, i changed it to US Boston, the difference in download speed wasnt that big of a difference, only 0.1-0.3MB/s which is miniscule, pick a location that is closer and more suitable for you for better speeds.

This step is VERY important since the game file location (UK in this case) where we are downloading the files from wont change and get corrupted everytime, meaning you can reinstall CSGO 10 times (like i did) but still get the error everytime. We have to switch the region to anything besides where yours is currently set.

5. Once changed, Steam should prompt you for a restart

6. Before redownloading the game again, ensure none of the previous files are lurking in folders because we want a fresh install of the game files: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

Your game location may be different depending on what drive you installed it on.

I deleted the CSGO folder on my drive completely before starting another download but by this point you should have no other files for CSGO when you are in \steamapps\common.

7. Download the game fully (once your download region has been changed ofcourse) and let it download. Once finished, you should no longer see the error "Corrupt Update Files" meaning the download has been successful.

8. Navigate to "Verify Integrity of Game Files"

This will do a final check for any missing files in game. At this point it should be 100% and you will also no longer receieve the "Corrupt Update Files" error that appears when you previously downloaded the game.

9. Change the Download Region back to where it was originally and run the game like normal.

I hope this guide was able to help folks in resovling this issue because i had to go through forums upon forums, reddit and several other sites to find a fix for the problem before i found the one that really worked.

DISCLAIMER*
I am not saying this is the only guide out there that solves this issue, this was created because i didnt see other guides providing a FIX which hopefully i have provided.

My sincerest thanks for reading!

It still happens far too often on steam. What you were playing last night, you to start the next day and bam... the game crashes, you verify, then 1 file missing, you download and verify again and "Corrupt update files". You can sometimes spend up to an hour doing rinse/repeat until it finally works instead of gaming. I don't get any of this crap with any of the other platforms, its really putting me off buying anything new on Steam.

Thank you SO so much!!! I just had this problem with Subnautica, because I messed up trying to move the game files to my SSD... But doing this totally helped out.

After verifying it still says corrupt update files. I tried over and over and nothing works. None solution I came across on the internet doesn't work.
