"I restarted my tyrannosaurus so i could improve topology. Also planning on making it so the larger scales can be customly rigged when I start animating it so i can make it so it the scales have the appearance of overlapping and grinding against each other. But during the first start of the mod it's probably going to be a reskinned yutyrannus mixed with some allosaurus animations. I made the head osteoderm crest more asymmetrical and I used chicken, goose, emu, dwarf crocodile, and ostrich for the legs. Also made the scales on the leg proportionally smaller than compared to dwarf crocodile. Also made the larger scales and osteoderms follow a pattern similar to chicken and ostrich skin bumps. Planning on going for a slightly vulture style tyrannosaurus. I used vulture and the new saurian rex as a reference for the neck. Still going for a heavy looking tail. Reducing planned proto-feather amount. I plan relatively small to medium sized square scales on the belly and on half of the tail, hexagonal scales on the base and underside of tail. The tail is a very confusing part for me so i kinda went with the tail styled similar to theropod tails in the isle. Still following traits from birds, crocodiles, and other reptiles like the scales on the legs tend to be larger and more patterned (or actually have a pattern in terms for archosaurs) than what is on the body. Plainning on doing alligator-like keratin covering mixed with wood stork. Also still planning on adding lips but making it so they don't look like lizard lips and only partly cover teeth. Also making it so how tough the skin of the dinosaur was depends on where it lived, how dangerous it predators were, how dangerous it's prey was, and how much competition it had. I also plan on adding variations like a southern one which is completely scaly. Mid region which is has small bits of fuzz. Then the northern which has a small coat of proto-feathers. Also still adding feathers because i'm scared not to. But i kind of believe it might of had some elephant fuzz style proto-feathers.

For how I've been, stuff isn't going the best for me. Still dealing with the loss of my cat and two of my teachers at my school have died. Also my Grandma isn't doing to well. Still probably will be rarely active on steam.

I do trust saurian with this because I'm pretty sure they may know more basic info on dinos than me. But I don't think t rex would have had a true scaly face.

Main reference for scales because it is the closest thing we have to a fully scaly terrestrial archosaur alive today. Also it has tiny pebbly irregular and asymmetrical scales like what we've seen from lots of dinosaur skin impressions apart from ceratopsians because they had large scales. I think this probably be the best crocodile reference for a dinosaur. Just that type of scales would have covered more of the body on the dinosaur than it would on the dwarf crocodile.

Big reference for head, feet, and fuzz patterns.

Scaly bits on this bird can give us an idea of what dinosar heads could have looked like

This one is not just for the lols.

This one is more for the head to get an idea of how keratin covering would look on a tyrannosaurus skull.

This one is for the head crest.

This one is because some of t.rex's scales were polygonal like this guys

Tongue ref and maybe eye ref. Probably similar to t rex since their both predatory theropods.

Thanks I do need to find an efficient way of making dinos.

Thank you for your reply!! I really like the scaly design of the Rex and I hope you can make this mod a reality seeing how nice the models are 😃

I decided to postpone this project until I get a bit better at modding creatures. Also the mod should be stackable even though I plan on it having it's own difficulty by scaling stats with real lide weight and attack psi compared to human or mesopithecus stats so the stats will be a lot higher than normal vanilla dinos. Also it will most-likely have a completely scaly version as default due to skin discoveries and saurian's design and proto-feathered ones will either be a skin or a northern variant. Also I did redo this design and made the scutes a lot smaller than here.

So there will be a completely scaley variant? Also will mod be stackable?

Yeah I was planning on making the claws part of the main mesh so I could make a more natural looking transition tfrom skin to claws. The teeth are going to stay separate. I also plan on dividing each UV tile into subtools when I'm done sculpting larger details so I don't have to deal with as many polygons at once. Like how these artist did http://www.cgstudentawards.com/magazine/entry/making-of-the-beast-by-javier-blanco

But thanks for info.

Better on your end to have multiple subtools. So toe claws will have their own group, finger nails have their own group, teeth have their own group, etc.
Then afterwards you can merge them all together at the very end. But dont dynamesh them, it messes them up majorly and they wont look like claws, they will form into the actual toe and so it wont look like an actual nail. Retopologise the claws and stuff in their own sub tools or else they can get messed up ,especially the teeth.

I am planning on redoing the tail.
joelcollie242 Jun 2, 2018 @ 2:44pm
the tail was not like that
DinoDude  [author] Jun 2, 2018 @ 11:13am
The claws were kind of derped with the dynamesh. I will make them bigger when I retopo it and project details onto the new mesh.

Looks dope as hell, my ONE suggestion is making the toe claws a bit bigger.
