Is there a way to make this scope mod applicable to a specific type of sniper-rifle, and not for all (i.e. Hunting Rifle)?

So, main question. Is the scope overlay, in general, just a PNG overlayed on the screen? If so, would it be possible to make the borders outside of the main scope transparent, to give a "dual-rendered" look?
