▣ Key Information On Specialists/Fighters

What are 2 categories?
➤Warriors & Specialists
➤The important information is that all the available companions have been put into two categories.

What is a Warrior?
➤The first ones are warriors and these somewhat are lower-rank specialists.
➤During the game, you will meet many NPCs that you can recruit as your warriors (you will have to press the appropriate button then - see the above screenshot).
➤ Random people you hire to fight with you.
➤You don’t have to go out of your way to find them.
➤They don’t have story missions , will just show up around outposts you’ve liberated, fall out of the back of peggie kidnap-vans, or a cultist will literally drag them past you.
➤Just walk up to them, press a button, and they become your partner.
➤You can find them the fighters section of the roster menu. (They’re hiding behind the three gun icons at the bottom left.)
➤Based on having 2 abilities, you have to kill 5 enemies to unlock their first and 12 enemies to unlock their second.

What is the limit when recruiting?
➤You can recruit up to three warriors.
➤Each one of them has two unique skills and they become available only after you have killed a specific number of people.
➤You can keep a given specialist in your party until the end of the game, or you can "discharge" those of them, whose help you no longer need, or whose skills overlap those of another one.



What is a Specialists?
➤The second group are specialists.
➤These are unique companions and there are nine of them, in the game.
➤Later in this chapter, you will learn where to find them and how to recruit them for your party.

Why are Specialists so special?
➤Each of the specialists has their default gear (sometimes also a means of transport) and their unique skills.
➤For example, Jess Black use a bow and her skills decrease the risk of being spotted by the enemy, and allow her to move around wild animals.
➤Of course, it is best to pick specialists in accordance with what you currently need.
➤Jess is perfect for stealth missions but, if you want to launch a frontal assault on an enemy base, e.g. Nick Rye is much better, since he has a plane and cam bombard selected targets.



How many can I travel with?
➤By default, you can travel with only one specialist or warrior at a time
➤You can increase this limit to two, after you buy Leadership perk (cost: 6 points).
➤From now on, you will be able to have two companions with you.
➤Depending on your needs and preferences, these can be ones of similar sets of skills (e.g. proficient sneakers) or ones with different skills (e.g. one to help you with fights on the ground, and the other providing air support).

Can a Specialists die?
➤No & Yes ... er.. read below.
➤Specialists and warriors are not immortal.
➤If they take severe damage, they will pass out.

At this point, there are two things that you can do:
➤You can revive your companion.
➤This is the best possible variant.
➤Do not do that only if the unconscious ally is where you can easily die yourself (e.g. lying on the ground next to an armored vehicle, or is targeted by enemy snipers).

How can a Specialists die?
➤You can allow the companion to die.
➤It will then take a lot of time before the companion will be available again (see the above screenshot).
➤In such a situation, it is best to pick another ally from the list.
➤You can cut the short time it takes to heal wounds of the killed companion, by buying perks in the Leader category.
➤Unfortunately, you buy perks for each specialist separately, and each perk in that group requires 4 perk points.
➤Therefore, it is best to buy perks only for those of the specialists to travel most often with.

▣ Fighter Abilities

Fighters will have two abilities from the list below:




➤You can only recruit three fighters at a time.
➤If you want to swap any of them out, you have to remove them from your roster.
➤That will free up a spot to recruit someone new.
➤Just know that you’ll have to let them get their 12 kills in before you know what their abilities are.

▣ How To Decide Who To Bring Along

▣ Which Specialists To Select?

It should be mentioned that you should unlock perk Leadership skills as quickly as possible, thanks to which you can pick two specialists/fighters to travel with you (instead of the default one).Meaning two companions in solo play.

See the below recommendations to know who to best travel with:

➤If you want to act from shadows, Jess Black and Peaches are the best choices. If you have already lost one of them, you can select Grace Armstrong.

➤Hank Drubman Junior, Sharky Boshaw or Adelaide Drubman are great if you plan on participating in open conflicts. As your second specialist, you can also pick Cheeseburger.

➤The bear is good at distracting enemies which is helpful during missions where you have to defend yourself or a place.

➤If there are going to be enemy aircraft in the mission, it is best to pick Nick Rye, who can distract them and shoot them down.
Nick is also a good idea when you are attacked by an enemy plane or chopper, while free-roaming in the game world.
You can also choose Adelaide Drubman. She can destroy, e.g. enemy helicopters with ease.

① Boomer (Dog & Scout)

Name: BOOMER

Role: Fang for Hire

Bio: Boomer is a former bird-dog regional champion. After a successful career, he was content to spend his retirement at his owner Rae-Rae's pumpkin farm. Then the cult stepped in and took his family away from him. But Boomer remains a loyal companion to those he can trust, and he's always ready to use his keen senses to take down the cult.

Who is Boomer?
➤Boomer is the first specialist in Far Cry 5.
➤Inarguably, the dog is the easiest to recruit, of all the companions in the game.

What Boomer good at?
➤Boomer is useful while infiltrating enemy bases, because he highlights enemies (which works just like scouting with binoculars).
➤Later in the game, especially after you recruit mountain lion Peaches, he becomes less helpful.



To recruit Boomer, reach Rae-Rae's pumpkin farm in Holland Valley.
This has been shown in the above screenshot.



After you reach the farm, you will get a short storyline mission Man's best friend.
To complete the mission, you will have to eliminate a small group of Peggies and free the dog that is being kept in a large cage.
After you pet the dog and secure the farm, the mission will end and Boomer will appear on the list of available specialists.

② Nick Rye (Human & Pilot)

Name: NICK RYE

Role: Gun for Hire

Bio: Nick Rye broke away from a long line of Holland Valley Air Force veterans. His grandfather flew in WWII and in ‘Nam, and told Nick that war is hell—no exceptions. Nick met his wife Kim online and was attracted by her stories of travelling the world. After 9/11, he was pressured by his father to enlist, but Nick refused, choosing to stay and take care of his wife, who had recently suffered a miscarriage. Nick never reconciled with his father.

Recently, John Seed—Eden’s Gate’s lawyer—has aggressively tried to buy Nick’s crop-dusting business. But Nick has refused to no end. And to complicate matters worse, after years of trying, Nick and Kim are expecting their first child any day now. All his life, Nick has resisted the idea of going to war. But now war has come to him. It’s time for him to step up and become the true American hero he was destined to be.

Who is Nick Rye?
➤Nick Rye is the second specialist in Far Cry 5.
➤It will require you to play a larger storyline mission to recruit him.

What Nick Rye good at?
➤Nick Rye is especially useful, as he provides air support.
➤Thanks to his abilities, you can bomb enemy locations and fight back enemy aircraft.



To recruit Nick, reach Rye & Sons Aviation in Holland Valley.
It is by the same road as co Fall's End.
This has been shown in the above screenshot.



After you reach the airstrip, eliminate several Peggies and talk to Nick.
He will task you with a storyline mission Wingman, where you will have to retrieve Nick's plane.
To complete the mission, you will have to steal the plane from Seed's Ranch which is one of Peggies' outposts.
Following missions will have to fly a training flight on Nick's plane and fight a fight with a larger group of cultists that appear at the airstrip in the meantime.
After you have dealt with all the enemies, you will watch a cutscene and Rye will appear on the list of available specialists.

③ Grace Armstrong (Human & Sniper)

Name: GRACE ARMSTRONG

Role: Gun for Hire

Bio: Grace Armstrong is an expert sniper who has won a bronze medal at the US Olympics, served multiple tours in Afghanistan, and returned home to work as a weapons instructor alongside her father at the family’s shooting range in the Holland Valley. The Project at Eden’s Gate was a growing presence, but nothing she took seriously at first.

However, things came to a head when the shooting range was violently taken over by The Project, while local police refused to help. The resulting chaos led to the death of Pops. At that moment, something snapped inside Grace. She buried her father, unpacked her sniper rifle, and went hunting for the members of Eden’s Gate.

Who is Grace Armstrong?
➤Grace Armstrong is the third specialist in the game.
➤You can quickly recruit her after you have helped her defend the church.

What Grace Armstrong good at?
➤Grace is perfect in situations where elimination of enemies at long range is needed (e.g. to secure an outpost).
➤She is perfect with her rifle, although her performance depends on the vantage point she takes.



To recruit Grace, reach the Lamb of God church in Holland Valley.

After you have reached the church, clear the area and talk to Grace, who is in the church tower, by default.
You will receive a storyline mission Grace under fire, where you will have to help her defend the church against Peggies.
After you have completed the mission (none of the church, and the surrounding cemetery, structures can be destroyed) Grave will appear on the list of available specialists.

④ Cheeseburger (Bear & Heavy)

Name: CHEESEBURGER

Role: Fang for Hire

Bio: Cheeseburger was found as a young cub, snacking on greasy leftovers in a dumpster behind The Grill Streak. He’d been left to fend for himself after his mother was shot by poachers. Wade Fowler found him and brought him back to the F.A.N.G. Center, an animal sanctuary, where he was bottle-fed and nurtured back to health.

It turns out that a diet of burgers and fries does terrible things to a young bear’s body: Cheeseburger developed diabetes, which requires daily insulin injections. This, combined with his emotional attachment to Wade and his brother, meant that Cheeseburger could never return to the wild. Instead, the Fowler brothers built the bear his own home at the F.A.N.G. Center, making Cheeseburger the star attraction and a local celebrity. When the cult moved in, Wade quickly realized that Jacob wanted Cheeseburger for his experiments. Rather than letting that monster get his hands on his beloved bear, Wade decided to let him loose to fend for himself.

Who is Cheeseburger?
➤A Burger that you order at Macdonald
➤Cheeseburger is the fourth specialist in the game.
➤You will be able to find the bear only after you have seized one of the outposts.

What Cheeseburger good at?
➤Cheeseburger is a very useful companion, who is capable of attracting attention of enemies and eliminating them with ease.
➤However, you have to provide the bear with backup to prevent him from dying on the battlefield.



To recruit the bear, reach F.A.N.G. center in Whitetail mountains.
The location has been shown in the above screenshot.
There is a Peggies' outpost there which you have to liberate first.



Only after you have secured the F.A.N.G. center, talk to Wade to receive a storyline mission Personal Combat Bear.
To complete the mission, you have to obtain a fresh fish, find the bear (he is in the next location occupied by Peggies) and use the fish to tame the bear.
After you have eliminated the last group of enemies, Cheeseburger will appear on the list of available specialists.

⑤ Hurk Drubman Junior (Human & RPG)

Name: HURK DRUBMAN JR

Role: Gun for Hire

Bio: Hurk Jr. was born two prongs short of a fork, raised on TV dinners and soap operas in the absence of his father (Hurk Sr.) and his mother (Adelaide), who ran the family’s small business. Hurk Jr. tried his hardest to figure things out on his own. Thirty-five years later, the dude can barely zip his own fly.

When Hurk Jr.’s mother ran away with another man, his father decided to enter politics and moved to their homestead in the Whitetail Mountains, where he could feed his devotion to right-wing paranoia in full.

Hurk Jr.’s response was to spend the next few years backpacking around the world, from Rook Island to Kyrat, but he eventually found his way back to Hope County. Now Hurk Jr. lives with his dad in a fortified compound, “enjoying” the old man’s company and the many guns and armored vehicles on the property.

Hurk believes in only three things: poundin' brews, rockin' it all the time, and givin’ praise to the Monkey King who will eventually bestow him with great fortune.

Who is Hurk?
➤Hurk Drubman Junior is the fifth specialist in the game.
➤You can recruit the man without much trouble, after you have completed one of the storyline missions.

What Hurk good at?
➤Hurk uses an RPG that he can destroy cars and planes with.
➤It is a good idea to take him on the missions where you will have to fight larger battles with enemy vehicles.



To recruit Hurk, reach Fort Drubman in Whitetail mountains.
The location has been shown in the above screenshot.



Fort Drubman is a ranch belonging to Drubman Sr. and it is from him that you receive the next mission The Prodigal Son.
What makes this mission easier is that you will be accompanied by Hurk Junior.
The mission itself is about retrieving a jeep belonging to Drubmans.
It is not too difficult, but you will have to fight back Peggies, while escaping in the car.
After you complete this mission, Hurk Drubman Junior will appear on the list of available specialists.

⑥ Jess Black (Human & Hunter)

Name: JESS BLACK

Role: Gun for Hire

Bio: Jess’s parents were frequently out of work, so she moved around a lot and never had a proper childhood. As a result, trouble found her early: fistfights in the school hallways, late-night graffiti, dealing drugs, petty theft, and even setting fire to the principal’s car. Sick of her home life, Jess ran away to live with her badass Granny, a hard-core prepper and survivalist.No-nonsense Granny straightened her out fast by teaching her how to hunt and live off the land. For the first time ever, Jess finally had a role model and a sense of stability. After her Granny passed away, Jess, a changed woman, went back to living with her folks. Just when things were starting to go right, Eden’s Gate showed up and they quickly went south.

One night, while she and her family were sleeping, an Eden’s Gate henchman named The Cook broke into their house and abducted them. The Cook starved and tortured them relentlessly before finally killing Jess’s parents in front of her. But Jess escaped, and thanks to her Granny’s lessons, she now has the know-how to take down cultists and rescue others. She’s determined to save everyone she can and get revenge on The Cook. In a roundabout way, Jess found her true calling: killing.

Who is Jess Black?
➤Jess Black is the sixth specialist available in the game.
➤To recruit her, you will have to complete a single storyline mission on which she comes with.

What Jess Black good at?
➤Jess Black is a perfect specialist for completing missions that focus on acting from shadows ( Sneaking)
➤The girl can silently eliminate enemies with her bow and has lower chances of being spotted by enemies, than Grace.
➤Additionally, she will not be attacked by wild animals.



To recruit Jess Black, reach Baron Lumber Mill in Whitetail mountains.
The location has been shown in the above screenshot.
There is a Peggies' outpost there and you have to liberate it first.



After you have liberated the lumber mill, find Jess, who will want you to help her during mission A Dish Best Served Cold.
This is a quest where you are to save hostages and eliminate a lunatic.
In this mission, Jess can help you eliminate enemies.
After you complete the mission, Jess Black will appear on the list of available specialists.

⑦ Peaches (Mountain Lion & Stealth)

Name: PEACHES

Role: Fang for Hire

Bio: Peaches was raised in captivity, but some would argue that makes her a more vicious predator than any cougar from the wild—especially after being tended to by Miss Mable, the meanest, grumpiest, most acidic old lady in Hope County.

After having the comfort of her daily routine broken by Eden’s Gate, Peaches escaped captivity and tapped in to her hunter instincts. She will gleefully tear apart and feast on any cultists unlucky enough to disturb her mid-afternoon catnap. Even as powerful, silent, and deadly as she is, Peaches is just a big kitty at heart, and will follow you anywhere if she hears you shaking a bag of her favorite treats.




Who is Peaches?
➤Peaches is the seventh specialist in the game.
➤To recruit the tame mountain lion is not too troublesome and to do that, you will have to play a single storyline mission.

What Peaches good at?
➤Just like Jess Black, Peaches is a perfect stealth companion (Sneaking)
➤The mountain lion can sneak much better and attack from hiding effectively.
➤However, remember to highlight only single opponents for Peaches, because she can easily be killed while fighting against a group of enemies.



To recruit Peaches, reach Peaches Taxydermy in Henbane River.
The location has been shown in the above screenshot.



After you reach the taxidermy, Miss Mable will task you with a storyline mission Here, Kitty, Kitty.
In the mission, you will have to locate the mountain lion, who has escaped.
You do not have to fight the feline, but you will have to take it back to the questgiver and deal with the Peggies who have arrived in the meantime.
After you complete the mission, Peaches will appear on the list of available specialists.

⑧ Sharky Boshaw (Human & Heavy Flamer)

Name: SHARKY BOSHAW

Role: Gun for Hire

Bio: His birth certificate says Charlemagne Victor Boshaw IV, but he’d prefer it if you called him Sharky. His parole officer calls him a serial arsonist, but he’d prefer the term, “fire enthusiast.” See, wherever Sharky goes, fire follows: It destroyed his family’s trailer park on three separate occasions, forcing it to close down. It claimed the roller rink that bore witness to a disastrous first date. And it seems to ruin every drunk tank and jail cell that he ever sets foot in.

The law couldn’t change Sharky, but that didn’t deter Eden’s Gate. They invited him to join them and walk the path to a better life. When he found out that a better life involved torture and brainwashing, Sharky decided to fight the cult. And his fire followed. Oh yeah, and it just so happens that Sharky is Hurk's younger cousin. That might explain a few things.

Who is Sharky Boshaw?
➤Sharky Boshaw is the eighth specialist in the game.
➤It is not too difficult to recruit Sharky and you only have to go with him on a breakneck mission.

What Sharky Boshaw good at?
➤Sharky is equipped with a flamethrower, thanks to which he is perfect for missions where you do not have to hide from enemies.
➤Sharky can set enemies and vehicles on fire, but also he has increased resistance against explosions and shock.



To recruit Sharky Boshaw, reach Moonflower Trailer Park to the North of the jail in Hope County in Henbane River.
The location has been shown in the above screenshot.



After you reach the trailer park, you will notice Sharky playing with his flamethrower.
Talk to him and follow him on a storyline Burn, Baby Burn, where you will have to defend against successive waves of enemies.
After you deal with all the enemies, Sharky Boshaw will appear on the list of available specialists.

⑨ Adelaide Drubman (Human & Pilot)

Name: ADELAIDE DRUBMAN

Role: Gun for Hire

Bio: Adelaide Drubman is healthier, wealthier, and wiser than most folks. Just ask her: she’ll be glad to tell you all about herself.

Addie married a wealthy older man, Hurk Drubman Sr., when she was in her 20s. Their shared love of Reagan, Jesus Christ, and the NRA was a match made in heaven. It was after their son Hurk Jr. was born that Hurk Sr.’s attention started to drift to…other interests. While father and son went on hunting trips, Addie stayed home to manage Hurk Sr.’s holdings—unpaid of course.

After a decade of indifference and infidelity from her husband, Addie filed for divorce. She and her lawyer ensured she got the lion’s share, including Hurk Sr.’s marina. In turn, she “let” Hurk Sr. keep the kid and enjoyed her life to the fullest: booze, bazookas, and boy toys.Now in her 50s, Addie is still trying to live the same life. A few months ago, she spied a hot young SoCal mimbo on vacation at her marina. One look at his big…blue eyes and she just had to have him. Her bank account was full to bursting, so Addie lavished him with gifts and, after a while, convinced Xander Holt to move in with her. For Adelaide, it was paradise.

But paradise was lost once Eden’s Gate started sniffing around, begging to buy up her land. When she refused to sell out, they came with guns and took it by force. Banished from her own home, a furious Addie has been plotting revenge and brushing up on target practice with her prized AK-47.

Who is Adelaide Drubman?
➤Adelaide Drubman is the ninth specialist available in the game.
➤You will be able to recruit Adelaide after you offer to help her with a storyline mission.

What Adelaide Drubman good at?
➤To some extent, Adelaide resembles Nick, because she also is a pilot.
➤Rely on her if you want to shoot at the cultists, vehicles or enemy helicopters.
➤Her chopper, however, is not as powerful as Nick's plane.
➤The interesting thing is that you can latch on the chopper and climb in (after you have unlocked the grapple).



To recruit Adelaide Drubman, reach Drubman Marina in Henbane River.
There is an outpost there to liberate beforehand.



After you have recaptured the marina, talk to Adelaide and accept her mission Friendly Skies.
In the mission, you will have to find and retrieve Adelaide's chopper.
Grateful for your help, Adelaide Drubman will appear on the list of available specialists.

The non-specialist guns for hire that you’ll find around Hope County are kind of generic and random resistance fighters.So new fighters will spawn randomly alongside their skills as well

Do you have intel on where to find more regular guns for hire with the "HEAVY" class?

so far i've only been able to find 1 in the PINK-0 radio station outpost, without an option to find a second one

either way a M60 gun for hire and a rpg one are already devastating as it is

I'm not sure about improvements, nor do I think this is necessary but...
I don't think you've mentioned here how Warriors (the 'lesser' guns for hire) have hidden potentials that the main GFH don't have.

I recently hired a chick with a baseball bat for instance, who has cheeseburger's taunt and damage reduction but also can fix cars while she sits inside them automatically.
For the longest time I have had this chick who has looter and ammo recovery, both of which have been incredibly useful for me.
These two make an amazing setup for me, and I wouldn't have known that these random upgrades that the civvies get are a thing without experimentning now like I have been.

Because like, imagine getting one of these two super early on? Especially if you go with the 2 GFH in singleplayer thing early?
