Description
Old Ottawa City Hall (now known as the "John G. Diefenbaker Building") is a large office complex located on Green Island in Ottawa. The building was constructed in 2 parts, the first part being the 8 story tower designed by "John Bland" which opened in 1958. It was considered one of the most important international style buildings in Canada at the time of its opening. The building was expanded in 1988 with a new large rear section designed by "Moshe Safdie". The expansion was controversial as its design had its critics, it was costly and the extension sat empty until 1999 since there was more room then the City of Ottawa required. In 1999 the large vacant addition was leased out to Canada's Ministry of Global Affairs who purchased the property in full in 2003 as Ottawa moved its City Hall to its current and much smaller location in 2001.

Cost to build: $100,000
Upkeep: $800
Size: 13x32
