Store all your camera snapshots
By GJ
The game only allows you to store 200 photos in the in-game gallery. Tool called FFXVSnapshot can automatically copy all the photos as JPEG files as soon as Prompto or Noctis takes them, so you can view all the photos outside the game and not have to worry about running out of space in the in-game gallery.

Introduction
Final Fantasy XV gameplay has a camera that is used both automatically, and manually, to capture moments of the game. These photos are viewable in the in-game gallery, but the gallery is limited to 200 photos in total, forcing the player to choose which photos to save and which to discard, and eventually to delete old photos to make space for new ones.

Technically, these snapshots are saved in modified JPEG format on the user's personal files immediately as they are "taken" with the in-game camera, and later the game deletes the files when the user chooses to discard or delete the pictures in the game. This makes it possbile to grab copies of these snapshots as pure JPEG image files for viewing outside the game. While this can be done manually, copying each file by hand (and modifying it to be valid JPEG file) is quite tedious, especially if done during the gameplay. For this reason, the FFXVSnapshot tool was created.
Grabbing and using the tool
FFXVSnapshot is a tiny program that performs two main functions:
  • Copy and convert existing snapshot files to user-specified location.
  • Monitor the snapshot storage for new files during gameplay and immediately copy and convert them.
The program is built using Windows Presentation Foundation framework, based on .NET Framework 4.8. Thus, it should work as-is on any up-to-date Windows 10/11 computer that can also run the game. On older versions of Windows you may need to install .NET Framework 4.8 runtime manually.

The tool is open source. Both the compiled tool and the source code are available from https://codepad.info/games/ffxv/ffxvss.html

While the tool is very simple to use, the webpage linked above also has more detailed instructions on its usage.

The basic usage is this:
  1. Run the tool
  2. (On first time, tell it where to grab snapshots from and where to store the converted JPEG images)
  3. Play Final Fantasy XV while the tool is in background

As long as the program is running in background, all snapshots taken in the game will be automatically converted and stored in your selected location. This happens immediately after the picture itself is taken. That is, by the time you are to select what photos to keep when camping or resting in a motel, all of those pictures have already been stored and you don't need to worry about choosing which ones to save. You can of course later manually delete the converted JPEG files that you don't want to keep.

I absolutely need to make sure I get this set up before I play the game again. More than once during my time playing, I've accidentally backed out of the photo mode during camp before I've viewed them all, so who knows what awesome photos I may have missed out on. This should ensure I never have to worry about that again.

Hi! Currently I'm not actively playing the game, but I still have personally all the DLC parts to complete at some point in time :D

Hey so, just wondering if you're still interested in the game and making stuff for it. I'm from Exineris, we're the ones that released Flagrum and overhauled all FFXV modding a while back, and I just kind of realized we'd never even said hi lol. I want to extend an invitation to join us, and of course if you're not interested in making tools for the game anymore that's perfectly alright as well <3 Thank you for this tool, either way!

Little out of topic (it's about snaphots), i can pay you too :
I have black screen / image of snaphot in-game, i'm finded while ago via a message i write on a topic who was not my own and someone answer me, but instead say how to fix the issue, they answered to me to just use a snapshot viewer.

But I forgeted say this :
i don't want to see 200 black screen at the end of the game when they will look at the camera of prompto.

A thing : in game there is prompto auto picture, and ours own shot, a solution will work for both ?
I say/ask this because in Data Drive, snapshots from prompto and ours are in the same folder

You can find my 2022 topic by searching in steam : Hub : Discussion : "how to make old snaphots appears again in-game ?"

-> after having reboot my pc, my antivirus stop analyse it each time i launch it, without i set up an exception.

About :
"Could not locate game install information from Windows Registry."
I'm 95% sure that is for the "play FF15" button ><

Maybe in a 1.3 add a "brower" button under to "play FF15" could be nice. (if we can't already set up it, if yes sorry to be dumb another time)

BTW: Avast check your tool each time i launch it, i hope i (will) cause you no trouble because it say/said it send/t to their Lab :/ (i will try to create an execption, but it will not change that they have data about your v1.2, sorry :c )

BTW i have: Could not locate game install information from Windows Registry. (cf SC3)

ie : do i need to do something before left the tool in my situation ?

-> i think lefting the tool will save the modification of pairs (because one line don't exist anymore (cf SC1 and 2)

-SC1:

p.s : i spend +3Hours to do this (thinking and predominantly writting) ... 95% of normal players would have already close the tool, look at wich CF is modified, del the unused, relaunch the tool check if all good and launch the game to see where new snaps are created and unpair the unussed pair.
FineMouche16 [FR] Dec 30, 2022 @ 2:59pm
After thinking:
The true issue for 1.1 was maybe to have a copy of the config file, not to have moved it, because I'm 90% sure i didn't move i.
i.e I just created a copy. I'm 90% sure that in AppData it's the original one that i created when i clicked at least one time on "save" button in the past.

In version 1.2 i don't know how it handle CF, so i not sure wich config file he use.

Does it look first in the AppData first and if there is, stop his search and use the one it find?
Or
Does he look at the file closest to the launched .exe then as soon as he finds one, stop his search and use the one it find?
Or something else ?
