Story
Many people ask "when to play the DLC", "what should I do to fully understand the story" so here I'm creating this guide about the story order

Before starting the story you can watch FFXV Platinum Demo, if you still have it on your console play it, it shows Noctis when he was a child

Next watch a FFXV Anime called Brotherhood, it takes ~1 hours to watch all the episodes

Next read a FFXV Novel [cdn.sqexeu.com] it takes place before Chapter 1 (start of the game), not many people know that this novel even exist

Play the game to Chapter 2, if you get to Chapter 2 watch FFXV Kingsglaive movie or watch it before starting the game story (but there are story spoilers if you didn't reached Chapter 2)

Chapter 7 OR 8 - Episode Gladiolus

Chapter 12 OR 13 - Episode Prompto

Chapter 13 verse 2 - After Chapter 13 or when you finish the story

Episode Ardyn - After finishing the story

Episode Ignis - After finishing the story

Comrades - After finishing the story

The Dawn of the Future Novel - After finishing the story?

You can also read a timeline of ingame world, how it was created etc.
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XV/Timeline

And also a wikipedia to get more information on thing you'll be curious

Hope I helped, remember that you can always do everything listed here after finishing the main story

@Skuzzy

looks like someone needs handholding and a constant narration through every game they play, otherwise they wont get the story

It's because FFXV sucks. The story is a mess. I mean there's a massive jump in the late game in plot progression that makes no sense. I just remember how strikingly disjointed the entire narrative of the game is, and the last stretch of the game was clearly a "we ran out of time, cram half the story into the last hour of the game". It's a disaster narratively.

i believe TDoTF is the last DLC which is supposed to have to be the opposite of the ending we got, where luna and noctis dont die and actually get married. so yeah, turned into a book.

lol, I don't understand any of the story. It reminds me of real life, no one really knows what the heck is going on.

Oh yeah, they added a Tifa/Aerith novel to the canon as well to FF7, forgot about that.

FF7 is anything but "just play the game, and you have the full story"

FF7 isn't the best example. Not counting the remake trilogy, you've got Advent Children, Last Order, Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, maybe that Denzel ova? The Cloud/Aerith cameos in other things don't typically count but the ones in FFT are considered canon.

This is the main issue with FFXV right here. Wanna play FF7 and experience the story? Start a new game. Wanna do the same for XV? Watch the movie after chapter 2, the anime at chapter 5, read this manga no one knows exists after playing, etc.

For the comment below, you'd want to play Episode Ignis after the main game because it spoils the ending of the game, and the DLC also has an alternate ending

Episode Ignis happens during the game. Why would you wait until after the game if you're trying to play it in chronological order?
