Chapter 1 100% Walkthrough: All Strawberries, Crystal Heart, B-Side Tape, General Tips

A 100% completion walkthrough of Chapter 1: Forsaken City in Celeste. Includes locations of all collectibles including strawberries, the crystal heart and the B-Side unlock tape.

Notes, Tips & Tricks

• Chapter 1 contains a total of 20 strawberries. Strawberries don't count as collected until you land on solid ground. (On some screens, you need to land in a specific area.)
  
• Winged strawberries fly away upward if you dash while on the same screen. Don't dash until you're sure you can catch it!
  
• The moving platforms on belts transfer their momentum to you if you jump off while they're moving at high speed. You can use these to jump a lot farther than normal.
  
• Levels in this game are riddled with secret areas. Look carefully for subtle clues that indicate the presence of a secret. (Some need to be opened up by dashing at them.)
  
• Yellowish-green diamonds recharge your stamina and give you an extra dash while still in the air. (These reappear a few seconds after being collected. Use this to your advantage.)
  
• This level requires you to solve a puzzle on the radar tower screen in order to acquire the crystal heart (see 3:26 in the video). The solution is a series of dashes in these directions: up, left, down-right, up-right, left, up-left. After that, collect the crystal heart by dashing at it.
  
• You can pass through upward-pointing spikes from below without being harmed. (However, be careful not to fall back down onto them!)
  
• Screens with B-side tapes contain blue and pink platforms that switch on and off in time with the music. Active platforms are 100% solid; inactive ones can be passed through. Listen carefully to the music to time your jumps and dashes.

how are you supposed to figure out the crystal heart normally?

@Ena-Kohanna there's always assist mode if you're feeling overwhelmed. That said, I'm having fun with the game. Granted, I've played more difficult games than Celeste. Celeste does get brutal, but I've played far worse. Like IWKTK3, IWBTB, NANG. Those games are just heinous.

That butterfly puzzle is ridiculously cryptic. I thought it was a cute little easter egg when I came across it the first time, and figured it could be a puzzle, but even if I bothered to decipher what was going on there, I don't think I would have tried dashing in those directions. That said, when I knew the solution involved dashing, I stopped looking at the video and worked the puzzle out on paper myself.
