ACRE Basic controls
Couple of keys you need to know about to be able to use your radio

with illustrations

Reporting contacts
To report contacts check it's direction on hud or compas and say following:

"contact", #direction, #distance, #type

example: "contact, north-east, far, infantry"
Organisational structure
if you grab one or two of your buddies and run around doing whatever ♥♥♥♥ you want and call it a teamwork, you are doing it wrong

If you really want to enjoy some organized gameplay insdead of random chaotic mess, you should organise yourselves proper. Knowing basic organisation structure and principles will help to make your mp sessions rather enjoyable.

Troops

Fireteam
4 people

one fireteam consist of 3 privates and one fireteam leader (FTL)
Fireteam leader lead his fireteam and provide initiative and ask if they can do something what seems fit.

bad FTL: "command, what to do?"

good FTL: "command, this is red team, can we flank enemy on north while blue team supress them?"

Fireteams operate separated from each other.
Fireteam leader follow orders of his squad leader.
fireteam leader deal with formations within his fireteam

Squad
8-12 people

Squad is not a fireteam.
Squad consist of 2 fireteams and one squad leader.
Squad leader job is to supervise his FTLs.
Squad leader don't micromanage formations within fireteams.

Fireteams operate separated from each other

Squad leader only give tasks to his fireteams

example: "red team, provide base of fire on west hill, blue team move out and flank from south."

squad leader (SL) direct his fireteams and follow orders of commanding officer (CO)
squad.

Platoon
32-48 people

Platoon most often consist of 4 squads.
Commanding officer (CO) give orders to squads and monitorr their activity due radiochecks as SITREP, LOCKSTAT etc, but this is more advanced stuff that we will skip for now.

Support
3-21 people

There are different types of support.

Transportation
cars, LAVs, choppers, planes

Close air support (CAS)
attack helicopters, attack planes

Artillery
mortars, self-propelled artillery

All depends on mission and CO preferences.

Ovearall server cout vary from 40 to 200 people.

now compare it to your marginal chaotic mess with 1-2 buddies.
Fireteam formations
here you will find formations used within fireteam and their application.

wedge is main FT formation. commonly used for traveling areas which are not safe

file is traveling formation used for traveling in safe areas

staggered comumn is traveling formation used for traveling/convoy. mostly used while traveling along the road.

fireteam line is main battle formation. as soon as you are being engaged or aproach known enemy location this is formation you use.

Squad formations
here you will see formations used within a squad and their application
because squad formations and fireteam formations are different

squad column is main traveling formation. commonly used for traveling areas which are not safe.
it consist of 2 fireteam wedges one behind each other.

squad line is main formation for aproaching known enemy location
it consist of 2 fireteam wedges one next each other.

squad file is traveling formation used for traveling in safe areas
it consist of 2 fireteam files one behind each other. also may consist of two staggered columns.

squad main battle formation. you can hear your squad leader shout LINE UP!!! this is what he want you to do.
it consist of 2 fireteam lines.

Bounding
here you will see main battle tactic for all infantry, known as
bounding
.

on this picture you see how bounding within a fireteam works:
two provide base of fire cover while another two do maneuver (move out)

on this picture you see how bounding works within a squad:
team blue provide base of fire cover while team red do maneuver (move out)

once team moved to cover, they report on radio: team red set, and provide base of fire while team blue move out.

this is the main battle tactic used in arma and in military.
Flanking
here you will learn more advanced combat technique known as bounding

step 1
achieve fire superiority and supress the enemy using both fireteams

step 2
use one fireteam to flank the enemy and keep another to supress.
flanking team should get as close as possible to enemy position ~7-15 meters

step 3
as soon as flanking team is on position they ask supressing team to shift fire, in this example it's "shift fire right". on aknowledge, flanking team open rapid fire and walk in enemy position resulting termination of enemy
Range finding with binoculars
This way you can measure distance between you and target using binoculars, which is usefull for navigation and overall combat awarness.

ArmA 2 Communities
here is a small list of arma 2 communities that run ACE+ACRE on their servers within same or close to described organization structure, granting outstanding level of fun and teamwork.
