Review and guide of operator Smoke.

Introduction

Smoke is an operator that has been available since release, one of the most popular in the game. He is pretty universal, can easily roam, spawn peek, and defend objective.

This guide is created for new players and those who want to improve their skill and rank.

Porter is a thrill seeker with very little regard for his personal safety. He is fearless in battle and can be a great asset for defensive maneuvers, however he seems to enjoy the havoc and chaos of war.

Shotgun gives us good damage on short distances. We can destroy hatches, walls and floors with it too. Smoke one of many operators who picks shotgun as main weapon. Having a great SMG as secondary we can quite easily kill enemies even on long distances.

Very cool SMG. Great ROF and excellent accuracy allows you to play with suppressor.

I think it's already clear that we need to pick shotgun and SMG. This let us excel at any situation when playing Smoke, which makes us a valuable teammate. Although you are always free to choose your loadout and can play even with pistol.

Gadgets

Impact Grenade x2

Main choice. Very universal gadget, that let us roam and destroy walls.

Barbed Wire x2

You can pick barbed wire if you prefer it more than impact grenades. It can be used to help us hide our gas canisters, but it's better to let teammates to pick this gadget.

COMPOUND Z8

Smoke is versatile operator. You can roam with him or defend the objective. As for roaming - lack of speed is compensated by shotgun and impact grenades. Destroy hatches with shotgun and walls with grenades.
Below are the possible tactics and uses of his unique gadget.

Controlling the chokepoint
Just smoke needed door/window and don't let enemy to enter. No sane person will go consciously in the smoke. If you have Lesion in the team, you can make chokepoint so dangerous that no one will even dare to enter after several unsuccessful attempts.

Finishing off injured enemy
It can be much safer to finish off an enemy with a gas canister. Smoke can throw his canister quite far, so we can easily finish off injured enemies, without the risk of exposing ourselves.

Last seconds of the round
Just spam doors with smoke. The thing is not to let enemy enter the room on the last seconds of the round. Of course you need to know where enemy is, especially if there are several doors. If there is a barbed wire in a chokepoint, the enemy will just die when trying to enter the room. You will win in most cases, since the enemy cannot enter the objective room in time.

Disrupting defuser planting
We can easily disrupt defuser planting with the gas canister. The enemy will either run away or die while planting.

Hiding our traps

Our gas canisters are rather small and almost invisible to the enemy. They can be hidden almost everywhere. For example, under the floor like shown on the screenshots. If teammate place barbed wire on it, then you will get a great combo. You can easily hear enemy getting stuck on barbed wire. Activate your trap as soon as you hear them. It will be problematic to run away from this trap, because barbed wire slows up movement and smoke deal great damage + surprise effect and opportunity to finish off the enemy.

Preparing an ambush

I already described one option above. In general, the possibilities for all kinds of ambushes are so many that it's hardly possible to describe them all. I will just add few as examples and food for thoughts.

Place a gas canister under a window and just stay near it. Activate the trap when an enemy vaults over the window and then finish him off. To notice this trap, the enemy will need to look down on the floor when vaulting, which almost no one does.


There are a lot of stairs in the game, where you have the opportunity to flank the enemy from a window or destructible wall. Usually, no one will check for your trap. The point is simple, just wait until enemy comes close to a door and flank them. 99% of the time the enemy will run outside, and not into the room.



Reseting teammates
If you throw your gadget into a teammate, it will deal 10 hp damage to them. It's really helpful for reseting teammates. Just don't activate gadget by accident :D

Destroying environment
This feature is not related to our gas canister. Due to the fact that we have a shotgun and nades, we can destroy walls between objectives. There are some rooms in the game that are almost impossible to defend when you stay inside them. So it will be really helpful to destroy walls or even the floor, in this room, to shoot enemies from other spots. The point is to not let the enemy enter the room, too easily.

Customization

This is experimental section in my guides. I want to show different combinations of uniform loadouts. From practical to funny ones.
Most practical of the possible loadouts. In general, camos with mud colors is the most suitable for hiding in almost all places in the game. Smoke's Mamba Bundle. You can buy this bundle in game with renown or R6 Credits.



Practical + cool headgear. Blood Orchid uniform also allows to blend in the environment. Headgear available in "Smoke WD2® Set".



This loadout can be used just to look cool. First, the headgear can be bought with renown and R6 Credits and the second one comes with the first Season Pass. You can obtain it by buying the complete edition. The uniform is available in "Pro League Smoke Set" which can be bought in the UPlay shop.

As I have already said, this section is experimental and if you like it, then I will add it in every new guide.
