Cheat codes
Source of all these codes is the Avernum 3: Ruined World Hintbook. A permit to release them has been given in the forums by the developer.

To use the cheats, you may press Shift+D in-game to open the cheat box and type the command desired.

To use the editor cheat, the Character Editor has to be enabled in the main menu.

As far as I know, using cheats will disable Steam achievements for that save.
Several people have reported that cheats actually do not disable Steam achievements from working.

Codes

editor – Brings up the character editor, enabling you to freely edit your party’s
skills, traits, and spells. Before this will work, you must enable it on the title
screen.

fps – See Avernum’s current frame rate.

ouchouchouch – Heals and cures your group.

buffmenow – Gives each of your characters multiple blessings.

freemymind – Cures any character that is suffering from a mental effect. Also
removes a death curse.

iampoor – Gives you 500 coins.

imdrained – Recharges your spell energy.

backtostart – Returns you to Fort Emergence. Very useful if you get stuck. Just be careful to use it, since using it at an inappropriate time might mess up the plot, and the results will be unpredictable.

teachmenow – Gives you some experience.

showmeall - Makes all characters (even ones you can’t see) appear on your
automap.

dontshowmeall – Stops making all characters appear on your automap.

resetboats – Returns all boats to their starting positions. Boats you previously
purchased will no longer be your property. Use the backtostart cheat if this
strands you somewhere.

calmthetower – Resets the timer for a certain late-game event. Original text: Resets the timer for the Tower of Magi disaster.

letsbefriends – If Shayder, eastern villages, or a dragon are angry at you, calm
them down.

A comment by the nick Xander77 also mentioned another, unofficial code:
location – Unknown effects. I'll add the effect once I know what it is.

I think they added the Location cheat to mimic the location spell in the original Exile III game.
I hope they also add a cheat for Scry Monster. That was one of my favourite spells.

I also want to confirm I used cheat codes (in Avernum 2 Crystal Souls) and I still get the achievements. Thank you for the guide!

Okay, thank you! I'll add a complete description once I'm at a computer.

The effect is listing your map coordinates. Mostly useful if you want to list your exact location for others to find / are trying to find something via a walkthrough.

For example, I'm compiling a guide to overworld caches, and "location" is a major help

I did a google search but none of the lists that came up listed the code. So I'll rename the list to Official Cheat Codes for now.

Well, because I don't know what it does (if anything), and I don't generally use cheats if I don't need to. I posted this list because someone else would likely have done so eventually.

The hint book is a fine book, a great book, but it's not the only book.

More to the point, there are more cheats in the game than dreamt of in your hint book.

Just go into the game and try using "location" as a cheat. I have no idea why you'd even reply before trying.

I have no idea what you're talking about. These are all the ones listed in the hint book.

You forgot about "location".

I'll leave my original text there for now, but now there's a correction in place. At the moment I know of at least two people who have reported it working anyways, though I've yet to test it myself.
