Hirschfelden - The Prime Spot for Wild Boar
Vytvořil: Zacht_180
Hey everyone, this won't be too fancy. I've spent some time in Hirschfelden and have found my favorite spot for Wild Boar. I have gotten several heavy and high-scoring harvests here. This guide will visually depict this area of the reserve and describe the movement and natural habits of the hogs. This will be especially useful for completing the quest "Tressler - A Ton of Meat" where you have to harvest 10 hogs that are heavy in weight.

Introduction
I want to make it clear that there are definitely other great spots to hunt boar on Hirschfelden, but personally I have had the best of luck in this area and have harvested several high scoring boars here (mostly golds and one unique fur). Finding this area has made it easier for me to complete "Tressler- A Ton of Meat" in which the player is tasked with harvesting 10 wild boar that each weigh at least 220.42lbs.

Many people recommend the middle and north end of Hirschfelden, which is definitely a good spot to find them. But I often find myself getting distracted by fallow deer or other animals, and if the boars become spooked they tend to run off pretty far. I recommend using a bow with 420gr arrows as to minimize the noise made when hunting, and definitely bring the wild boar caller.
The Hot Spot

The hot spot is located here on the Northwest corner of the map. Luckily, this is also in red deer country so you can always head this way if you're looking for some of them, too. Here is the general area outlined in yellow, and more precisely the orange rectangle. There is an outpost that is located in this area too for easy travel.
Let's Look Deeper

As you can see, there are two hot spots and an area of travel I have identified. This is where it gets juciy, and this is the important part of my guide.

Feed Zone

You will see the feed zone indicated to the west with the arrow pointing to it that says "eat." You will find the group of hogs there. Wild boar are very social animals, and from what I've been able to gather you will usually find at least five or six of them. During one visit I was able to count nine, but there could have been more. They will appear at the feed zone late at night/early morning around 0300-0700.

Rest Zone

Look to the east, and you will see my mark with the "sleep" indicator. This is the rest zone, where they go to sleep. You will find them here during the late morning and mid-day. Unfortunately due to my hunting pressure I wasn't able to go back and identify the specific times (the need zone temporarily disappears due to hunting activity), but you should be safe being there around 0930-1700ish and finding them. Those pesky monsters seem to sleep a lot. Use caution when approaching, because they lay down on their sides when they sleep and it may be hard to see them so make sure you examine the ground. I've died to wild hogs more than any other animal in the game. As with all hunting - be quiet, stay up-wind, and try not to be too visible. I particularly like this spot because it offers a lot of foilage and concealment, though it isn't overly dense. When you startle them they will either run N/NW or SE along the water. In a way, they are sort of cornered.

Area of Travel

Between the two need zones you see the area of travel. After spending hours in this part of the map and hunting these pigs, I am fairly confident that all they do is travel between the two need zones. I could be wrong, though. You will see that the area of travel is an arch, and that is because directly SE of that arch there is a somewhat large mountain that they avoid. It is a valley. They follow the curve of its base, and in the north area of the travel zone there is a considerable amount of coniferous forest. In the middle section it is pretty clear at the base of the mountain. I have also found out that it is effective to use that mountain to your advantage as a potential shooting spot as they pass through. The .270 with polymer tip rounds work very well.
Conclusion
Based on my experience this is the prime spot for hunting wild boar in the Hirschfelden hunting reserve. If you keep a constant pressure in this area you will see less and they will tend to avoid it, and as described above my rest zone disappeared entirely. If this happens take some time away, and work on hunting other wildlife while the pigs return to their habitat. Your pressure will go away eventually. Remember, wild hogs are a threat to the environment and damage the local ecosystem it invades. If they had it their way, they would violently murder you and defecate on your corpse to leave it for the foxes. So slaughter as many of them as you can and never feel bad about it.

Try Petershain Lake, when you travel to that outpost there are 4 drink zones with lots of boar between 0:00 and 3:00

I don't have the boars there :(. The mission tressler #3 would have been so easy if it worked on my map...

Thank you

@michalxo

Thanks for giving me the heads up. It's been a while since I've played COTW. I'll check with a couple of other players and if they report the same thing I'll make sure to edit or remove the guide, I'd hate to steer people in the wrong direction!

I think that this location on longer works after latest patches.
I was not able to find single boar here. But Red deers are back :)

@moby dick I would recommend 420 or 540gr arrows, the 45-70, or 12ga slugs. The .50 MB muzzle loaders will work fine along with the .270 or 30.06
