Invalid Serial Number

A quick fix for the "Serial Number is incorrect" error.

What Happened?

Sometime during Steam's change to the ACF format, Steam forgot how to write serial numbers in the correct place. End result is that the game cannot validate your key. Put simply, Steam screwed up, but the fix is fairly simple.

The Easy Fix

As always, it is important to note that you should be VERY CAREFUL about editing your registry. Only do a change if you understand what you are doing and understand that making a mistake can be detrimental to your machine. You do this at your own risk.

• Click Start.
  
• Select Run if using Windows XP.
  
• Enter "REGEDIT" with no quotes and hit enter. You can use the searchbar in Windows Vista or Windows 7
  
• • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Techland\XpandRally (For 64-bit Systems)
    
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Techland\XpandRally (For 32-bit Systems)
• Right-Click on (Default) and select MODIFY
  
• Copy the contents of "Value Data" and paste them into notepad.
  
• Right click on empty space in the main window and select NEW then String Value
  
• Name the new entry as "SerialNumber" with no quotes.
  
• Right-Click on "SerialNumber" and paste your key in.

Should you not have a key listed in the (Default) string, you can also use the following key provided by Techland instead: LCWCR-EXEW7-TXCL9-XCK49-XRFWY

The above key was provided by Techland in the event that newer purchasers didn't get one when buying the game. Since the game is no longer buyable (at least in the North American region), this shouldn't be the case for most people.

By doing it this way, you don't have to worry about keeping a support e-mail from Techland around every time you want to install it, and Steam (albeit half-***ed) still stores your own legally licensed key.

Hello,seems to be a old guide,but hope it helps:

I've recently installed GTI Racing again from Steam, and got this error.

Trying to do the steps on this guide failed because the registry keys had some kind of lock, not unlocking for edit or deleting it.

So here is the solution,works absolutely fine and in a flash!

1 - Download Registry DeleteEx

2 - Now after you open the program it will have a input with a delete button, in this input you'll paste the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Techland\GTIRacing - For 32-bit system
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Techland\GTIRacing - For 64-bit system

Don't tick the box and click on delete.

3 - Download the zip file.
Instructions are detailed on the readme.txt file.
After that, close steam from task manager.
Just open steam again, and try to run the game

I've bought XPand Rally and XPand Rally Xtreme at steam because the CDs of my boxed Versions falied. After I have installed the steam Versions they both dosent work. On each try I get the "wrong serialnumber"-message. The Guode didnt fix it. Wheres the Problem. I have bought each of this Games two times and nothing works :-( .... Pleas help me or give me the Money back. LG

I have this issue with GTI racing, and it already has a serial number thingy, but I can't edit anything for some reason. I did the fix a long time ago on Xpand rally and that worked, but GTI racing won't let me edit it.

Okay ! My mistake here. I gave it an other try, and as I couldn't rename the default value where I pasted your generic cd Key at first, I found out that i forgot to create a new string value with "SerialNumber" as name on it. Now, it works fine, I've just launch the game.

Do you know if the Lan works with 2 players with the same generic key ?

Use the key as it is written in the guide.
If it's incorrect, you may need to contact Techland. I'll double-check on my machine soonish to see if I can't make sure it works. If not, I'll poke them again.

Good guide but same here in Techland\xpand rally : "No value set", so no cd key's given ....
An other joke from Steam, a problem from last year still not solved.

And I tried with the serial you provide up there, and the launcher says now the serial number is incorrect... :(
This game shouldn'nt be on sale, it's kind of a scam.
