Project Zomboid: HOW TO manage a PZ-server ingame with the Admin-Panel [ENG / GER]

This is a Project Zomboid (PZ) guide, which was primary carried together for the German Project Zomboid community[project-zomboid.de], so that new server-admins or their desired server-mods can get easily convienced to the Admin-Panel to manage a PZ-server ingame. Morevoer PZ-admins can use it as a tutorial for their brand-new server-mods.

Dieser Project Zomboid (PZ) Guide wurde ursprünglich für die Deutsche Project Zomboid community[project-zomboid.de] zusammengestellt und soll Server-Admins oder deren Server-Mods ermöglichen, sich möglichst schnell mit der Admin- / Mod-Benutzeroberfläche (Admin-Panel) und den damit verbundenen Funktionen vertraut zu machen. Admin-Panel (AP)

Press ESCAPE to activate the Admin-Panel (AP) on the bottom of the window by left-click. Afterwards you can navigate through the Admin-Panel. (read the AP: descriptions for further informations)

AP: Check your Stats

"Check your Stats": to see your own playerstatistic. Compared to an admin you are’nt able to change them as mod. But anyway your able to moderate other players statistics when you already teleported to them and right click on them.

"Check your Stats": um deine eigene Playerstatistik einzusehen. Als Mod ist es dir nicht möglich diese zu verändern. Jedoch kannst du diese Einstellungen bei anderen Spielern anpassen, indem du dich zum Spieler teleportierst und einen Rechtklick auf den entsprechenden Spieler ausführst.

AP: Enable Build Cheat Mode

"Enable Build Cheat Mode": by clicking on this option you’re able to instantly build anything inside the carpentry menu, without any materials.

"Enable Build Cheat Mode": Durch das Anklicken aktivierst du diesen Modus. Hierdurch ist es dir möglich alle Tischlerhandwerksitems zu craften, ohne die dafür benötigten Materialien besitzen zu müssen.

"Fraction List": you can see all fractions (playergroups) which have connected together on the server. You can display the whole fraction members by clicking on “view”. Here you can dispand fractions, change the owner, add players a.m.

AP: Safehouse List

"Safehouse List": to find all safehouse(base)-owners. That means the leader who claimed the base. Moreover you can display all part owners. It’s also possible to release safehouses, change the owner, change the safehouse name or teleport to the safehouse.

"Safehouse List": hier findest du alle Safehouse(Base)-Eigentümer. D.h. jeden der sich eine Base geclaimt hat. Unter view findest du die in die Safehouseliste aufgenommenen Miteigentümer. Dir ist es möglich die Safehäuser aufzulösen oder den Besitzer zu wechseln. Sowie deren Safehousnamen anzupassen. Dies ist jedoch i.d.R. nicht notwendig. Weiter kannst du dich in das entsprechende Safehouse teleportieren.

Player-Overview

Press ESCAPE to open the "Player" overview. You’ll see a table of all online players. Within this menue you’re able to activate the godmode, to port you to or to port the player to you, to set players to invisible, or to mute and ummute the ingame voice chat of a player.

Unter Players ist es dir möglich Spieler zu kicken, zu bannen, den Godmode zu aktivieren, dich zu Spielern zu teleportieren, dich unsichtbar zu machen, Spieler zu dir zu teleportieren und den die Ingamestimme des Spielers zu deaktivieren.

important hint: create an extra admin- / mod character

You've to create an additional character to allocate admin- or mod rights, because it's not possible to play with these accounts on a regular way. (f.e you'll not have any effect on your carryweight limit with an admin or mod player account). Don't forget to use a strong and unique password!

• If you like to allocate mod rights you've to teleport to the desired player (who already created an extra account/character), right click on him/her and allocate the rights.

Es ist notwendig einen extra Character/Account zu erstellen, um anschließend Admin- / Modrechte zu vergeben, da mit diesen Accounts (Characteren) nicht auf dem normalen Wege gespielt werden kann. Zum Beispiel wird die Tragekapazität aufgehoben uvm. Vergiss hierbei nicht ein starkes und einzigartiges Passwort zu wählen!

• Falls du Modrechte vergeben möchtest, solltest du dich zum gewünschten Spieler teleportieren (der sich hierzu einen extra Account/Character erstellt hat). Danach kannst du mittels Rechtsklick auf den Spieler die entsprechenden Rechte verteilen.

I personally didn't create an admin account, so I assumed Nitrado did that for me. Also haven't had to set any permissions for the admin account and have full control by default, but I may have gotten lucky.

To reply to Juba,

Admin login account not created on default. This could be case to case but the admin login will still not work when connecting or trying to add user, you still need to set permissions for admin after creating the user therefore you would have to do it from the DB.

If the world is already loaded the loot stays as it was from day1. Your new settings will only affect the loot respawn. This means if you empty a crate completely, the repspawn will comply with your new settings. To get your "rarity" from beginning, you have to wipe/reset your server cuz PZ generates the spawn when you're creating your server the first time.

I host a Server with Nitrado, i can't change loot rarity on Nitrado, i have to do it ingame, what happens when i do it ingame, since the world is already loaded?

I forgot to clarify that this only refers to people using Nitrado. If you've already made your personal account and logged into the server, you can skip the first command: "/adduser (your personal Account Username) (your personal Account Password)". Be sure to remember which password goes to the corresponding account, if they aren't the same.

When you're in the PZ server browser, and have highlighted your server, enter all of the correct information in the section on the right. For Account Username, type "admin". Your admin Account Password can be found in your general settings on the Nitrado.net Web interface. Find "Admin password", then copy and paste it(Ctrl + V) in the "Account Password" bracket on the PZ server browser. Hit save, then refresh, and you should be able to join your server.

Once here, the name above your character should be "Admin admin". To make your own character an Admin, press enter and type the command "/adduser (your personal Account Username) (your personal Account Password).

Then type "/setaccesslevel (your personal Account Username) Admin". Whether you've already made your account on that server or not, it saves that User's information. Therefore, you can sign in with the account username and password you just added.

Of course, if this doesn't work for you just use Phenomao2's solution.

For nitrado users, this is how i made myself an admin :

Logged in as a regular player, and logged out.

Used a FTP software (i used filezilla) connected to my server with the ftp logins shown on my nitrado dashboard (bottom left).

On filezilla, went in Zomboid/profile/Zomboid/Db and downloaded the server test file

I opened this file with a sql software (i used DB browser for SQLite)

On DB browser, i went through databases and opened "Whitelist".

In the Whitelist, i found myself as a line and modified it like this : under admin column added "true" for my line/ under accesslevel column added "admin" for my line.

Saved the servertest file.

Went on nitrado under tools/file browser (left side of the dashboard)

followed the same path as in filezilla ( Zomboid/profile/Zomboid/Db)

Deleted the servertest file, and uploaded the modified one with Db browser.

Logged in in the game and found myself a successful admin !
