Even within 'straight up' match-3 games, there are still differences in how removed matches are removed. In most regular games, the new tiles come from the top, while in this one, they seem to follow some kind of made-up gravity that makes it very hard to determine in advance where the new tiles will come from...
I suppose you played them already, but if you haven't, my favorite 'straight-up' match-3 games are the 7 Wonders and Montezuma series. Both series have a couple duds in them, but they also have real gems. Plus, good soundtracks in Montezuma! Not as good as Hellas, but still!
There are simply no better match-3 games, in my opinion. I actually finished them all at least 3 times. Because why bother with a long boring game, when I can just replay the same game I enjoyed a lot before? Runefall actually brought me back to them, ahah... Currently replaying the 4th one.
Gosh, this game was annoying until the end... Even the ending was rushed and disappointing. The two wizards' sidequests had ten times more heart/humour in them than the rest of the game. I was hoping we'd get more of those, but then in the end the quests just stop and you spent the last dozens of stages in complete solitude and boredom...
