Locations of all the ashes, and how to get them.
By Krosis
When playing through Dark Souls 3 for the first few times, I often found myself looking on the internet where to find the ashes and if I had missed any. So to make that a little easier, I decided to create this guide!

If you found this guide helpful in any way, please rate (and favorite) it and if you have any questions / suggestions feel free to leave a comment.

All the images used in this guide other than the ashes (which were taken from the Wiki) were made by myself.

WTF are ashes and what do I do with them?
Ashes are items found in the world (or gained from killing an NPC) which you can give to the shrine handmaid to gain access to new items and gear. Like shown in the picture below:

All of the ashes in this guide are found in the displayed order as you proceed through the game.

Note: Most of the corpses in this guide don't have the glowing loot on them anymore as I used a character that has already completed every area.

Mortician’s Ashes
The Mortician's Ashes allow you to buy the following items from the shrine handmaid:
  • Charcoal Pine Resin
  • Charcoal Pine Bundle
  • Grave key (used to open the door that leads to Irina of Carim)
  • 3 Embers

To get the Mortician's Ashes you want to be heading to the Dilapidated bridge bonfire in the undead settlement. And follow as shown in the images below:

From the bonfire run straight ahead until you encounter a gate.

Head through the gate and keep moving until you reach a house entrance. Do not enter the house however. Note: A giant located on top of the tower will fire giant arrows at you unless you befriended him by talking to him. If befriended he will still shoot arrows but these won't do any damage to the player.

When you reach the house entrance head left into the graves area and then proceed to walk back in the direction of the gate.

You should then encounter a corpse lying in front of a tree, containing the Mortician's Ashes.
Dreamchaser's Ashes
The Dreamchaser's Ashes allow you to purchase the following items from the shrine handmaid:
  • Hidden Blessing

  • Titanite Shard
  • Composite Bow

To get the Dreamchaser's Ashes you want to be heading to the Old wolf of Farron bonfire in the Road of sacrifices. And follow as shown in the images below:

From the entrance of the room, head right and go up the stairs.

On the top of the stairs you should see a wall here. This is a secret wall, so hit it to open the way.

On the hanging corpse you will find the Dreamchaser's Ashes.
Grave Warden's Ashes
The Grave Warden's Ashes allow you to buy the following items from the shrine handmaid:
  • Yellow bug pellet
  • Kukri
  • Carthus rouge
  • 3 Embers

To get the Grave Warden's Ashes you want to be heading to the Catacombs of Carthus bonfire. And follow as shown in the images below:

From the bonfire head to the left, down the stairs. (beware of the skeleton ball)

When you get to the bottom of the stairs, head to the left until you see these next stairs. Proceed to head up the stairs.

Up the stairs turn around and proceed into the long hallway.

At the end of the hallway you will see a corpse sitting against the wall containing the Grave Warden's Ashes.

Continue to move up until you reach the top. Then head right until you see a steep staircase going down. (killing the knights would be recommended)

Proceed down the stairs.

You should now see a corpse on the edge containing the Easterner's Ashes
Excrement-covered Ashes
The Excrement-covered Ashes allow you to buy the following items from the shrine handmaid:
  • Blue Bug Pellet
  • Dung Pie
  • Blooming Purple Moss Clump

To get the Excrement-covered Ashes you want to be heading to the Distant Manor bonfire in Irithyll. And follow as shown in the images below:

From the lake area outside the distant manor bonfire you want to be heading into the tunnel.

In the tunnel head towards the stairs leading to the room where you meet Siegward sitting by the fire, however do not go up the stairs.

You will find the corpse containing the Excrement-covered ashes opposite of the stairs in this doorway.

After dropping down the ledge, head to the right until you see a closed jail cell with the glowing loot orb inside.

On the corpse sitting on the chair you will find the Prisoner Chief ashes. Keep in mind that in order to open the jail cell, you need the Jailer's key ring. Which is found in the Profaned Capital.
Xanthous Ashes
The Xanthous Ashes allow you to buy the following items from the shrine handmaid:
  • Young White Branch
  • Gold Pine Resin
  • Xanthous Armor Set

To get the Xanthous Ashes you want to be heading to the Irithyll Dungeon bonfire. And follow as shown in the images below:

From the Irithyll Dungeon bonfire proceed to head down into the dungeon.

When you reach this sewer tunnel with the rats, enter the tunnel and proceed through the hole in the wall on the right side.

When you get into the large open room with all the Jailers, cross the room and go to the right through the little tunnel with the Mimic chest.

Through the tunnel you will see a door on your left side. (In this image, the door my character is pointing to.)

Inside the room you should see 2 corpses with a glowing loot orb. 1 of these corpses contains the Xanthous Ashes.
Dragon Chaser's Ashes
The Dragon Chaser's Ashes allow you to buy the following items from the shrine handmaid:
  • Titanite Chunk
  • Titanite Scale
  • Twinkling Titanite

To get the Dragon Chaser's Ashes you want to be heading to the Great Belfry bonfire in Archdragon Peak. And follow as shown in the images below:

Continue to move up the path.

When facing the centre hallway from the bonfire, head to the left into the passageway that leads to the room where Yoel of Londor is normally located.

Now drop down the ledge.

You should now see a corpse containing the Hollow's Ashes. Keep in mind that for the ashes to show up, you need to have had Yoel in your Firelink Shrine before beating the Abyss Watchers bossfight.

If you have leveled your hollowing to max level before Yoel died, that means you completed the first step in the hollow questline. Thus meaning you get the Hollow's Ashes from either causing Yuria to leave Firelink Shrine by curing the darksign, killing Yuria or completing the questline. If Yuria is in your Firelink Shrine however, you will be able to purchase the items normally gained from the Ashes, from Yuria.

hey, I just noticed another thing about the hollow's ashes. It doesn't contain the londor braille divine tome. RIP
Krosis  [author] Jan 7, 2018 @ 5:25am
I shall add it to the guide. Thanks for coming up with it!
Thonkaro Jan 7, 2018 @ 5:24am
ah ok. thanks. I know how the questline works, I just didn't know that it wouldn't make the ashes appear. I recommend you add this little thing to the guide, so people don't question it from time to time.

Though when Yuria is in firelink shrine she sells all the items you normally get from the ashes.
