MOD: Kratos Vesperia Dub

You asked for it, and here it is. An extension of my previous battle voice fix, now with Kratos's lines from his Tales of Vesperia cameo.

Background

Back in the mid-2000's, a PS2 port of this game was released in Japan containing new content that wasn't in the original Gamecube version. This included a few new techs for most of the main party as well as a few bosses. These never saw an English translation or dub until 2014 when the game was re-released on PS3. Prior to that though, one of the characters, Kratos Aurion, made a cameo appearance in Tales of Vesperia, with the original English voice actor (Cam Clarke) reprising his role and dubbing those new techs from the PS2 version of Symphonia. The quality of Vesperia's dub and ADR direction was highly praised and many felt the lines recorded for this new PS3/PC version of Symphonia weren't up to the same standard, particularly Kratos's memorable "Mystic Arte," Shining Bind. This mod integrates parts of that Vesperia dub into the Steam version of Symphonia.

About this mod

Available in two flavors:

"Standard" (recommended) only effects Shining Bind, the tech people seem to take most issue with.

"Deluxe" swaps out Shining Bind plus all other techs that appeared in the Vesperia cameo: Demon Fang, "Twin" Demon Fang, Fierce Demon Fang, Sonic Thrust, Light Spear Cannon, Lightning Blade, Super Lightning Blade, Guardian Field, and First Aid.

Cam Clarke sounds a bit grittier and more aggressive in his Vesperia performance, so the techs in the "deluxe" version don't mesh perfectly with his wider Symphonia moveset. But for the limited range he uses in boss fights I think it works quite well if you want to hear something a little different.

Give it a try yourself by downloading the version of your choice below. Just rename it to BTLSTR.awb and replace the existing BTLSTR.awb file located in steamapps/common/Tales of
Symphonia/P12E/Data/TOS_Server/Rawdata/WIN

@A Random Mastodon I think it may be something you'd have to do yourself with a hex editor. I don't really know much about it.

@aifread any idea where I can find that mod? Most of Symphonia's Mystic Artes are a bit too restrictive with the activation requirements (Looking at you, Presea).

@Harbinger I believe Frantic Dan was using a mod to unlock all of Kratos's attacks at once including his mystic arte as a standard selectable move.

This isn't directly related to the mod and probably a dumb question. But in the video Kratos uses his mystic arte at high HP, is that possible or is it just to demonstrate his mystic faster?

@Tsunar Kelone There is no new actress for the new techs in this version; they got the entire original cast back. I took a listen to the DotNW actress's take and it sounds close-ish to Tara Strong but not quite. I think the voice sounding different would be way more offputting than a minor translation inconsistency that most people aren't aware of unless they know the Japanese names of the techs. Besides, even if I changed the voice clip the text would still be the same and not match.

So! This is odd but this is directed to the mod creators, you may or may not know that Presea's beast was mistranslated from Punishing Beast and symphonia 2 (Dispite having a different actress) has the correct translation and sounds identical to the new actresses lines. Would you be able to put that rendition to replace the mistranslated arte? (I do have the audio file if you need it)
