Introduction
Being introduced as a competitive game, Rainbow Six Siege is a team-based game where 2 sets of 5 players are battle to gain victory on a match, with this competitive nature, a ranked gamemode is introduced to categorize players into a fitting rank.

Like CS:GO and DOTA2, the ranking system is based on chess elo and glicko ranking system[en.wikipedia.org], although since this is a team-based game, chess ranking systems don't fit in this case because it is based on a 1v1, not team versus team.

R6S is using a ranking system based on the TrueSkill[en.wikipedia.org], which is made for online games so it fits all certain setups on competitive play including team-based battles.

In this guide, I will show you what is this so called "Ranking System" and how does it work on R6S, so you can completely analyze your skill that's being defined by the Ranking System, and why did you ended up there.
Hold on, What is a Ranking System?
Ranking systems are known as a benchmark to a player's skill were it defines how good the player plays throughout matches he played. It can be used as a comparison between a good player and a "bad" player, but it doesn't mean it's accurate. It's used in most competitive games, not just online games, but games like chess etc. also uses ranking system.

Although keep in mind that no system is perfect, they're all made to fit well to the game itself but it's not always accurate and it's never going to be, because there will be more variables that will affect a rating itself, so don't come around to say a low rating player is a skrub.
How does a ranking system work?
A rating is based on matches a player had played in the past, the rating will be adjusted in every match and defined based on the scale.

For example, let's say there's 2 Teams, it's a match of Lions against Wolves. The ranking system is scaled by 0-10
Lions had the player average rating of 8, while Wolves had the player average rating of 8.5.
In this case, Wolves will be expected to win due to the higher rating, so the possible outcome will be either one of them winning the match.

If Wolves win, the changes will be little but expected.
If Lions win, the changes will be big but unexpected.

But keep in mind, the difference of the rating isn't huge so we can call this a well-balanced match, which means changes will be adjusted by the system.

So, if the rating difference is huge and the higher rating team wins, there will be little to no changes at all. But if the lower rating team wins, there will be massive changes because the results were not expected at all.
How does the system work on R6S?
In general, it's just works like any other game would, but in R6S, there is 2 variable that affects the rating, the first variable is showing a rating that tracks your skill (we'll call this Skill Rating), the second variable is a rating that shows how "unsure" the system on your aquired rank (we'll call this the unsure rating).

Here's an example :

The MMR defines your rank, but the the Skill Rating defines your skill and the Unsure Rating (Uncert. in pic) shows are you worth or not to play in that rank.

The more win you get in a balance match, the Skill Rating increases in a small/adjusted amount,
and vice versa.

As for Unsure rating, The more you win on balanced games, your unsure rating will decrease until unexpected results by the system happens.

I decided to play Ranked to get an actual result which I will use to actually represent the ratings.
Then, I got these results :
Before

After

According to the images, I lost a game and ended up losing 117.73 MMR, 1.18 Skill Rating and 0.08 Unsure Rating (StdDev).

Having these results, my predicton that the Skill Rating I lost were based from the 1% of the MMR I lost. or the MMR I lost is based on the Skill Rating I acquire.

I get these as a result on my ratings from the last 3 placement matches :
Before

After

The rating changes I acquired are From 2 wins, 1 loss :
+126.09 MMR From the initial start (7 placement matches)
+1.26 Skill rating changed
-0.23 Unsure rating changed

Looking at these 2 results, we can clearly tell that the Skill rating is purely based on 1% of your MMR, because in R6S Teamwork is always the key to win any matches regardless of your role in the game or your aiming skill.

In my 3 last placement matches, I ended up meeting Silver - Gold players, which is one of the reasons why my unsure rating is decreasing instead of increasing because the games I play are well-balanced.

You can see that the skill rating and MMR are related to each other, regardless of how many playtime and matches I've played, these two are still relatable even with the changes keeps going. Which proves that these ratings were based mostly on your Win/Loss ratio. Even though, the numbers that changed the ratings are based on the calulation that is adjusted with the Unsure rating.

In Conclusion :
  • MMR is measuring your Skill rating based mostly by win/loss ratio
  • The more matches you play in a specific rank (ex: Gold IV-I), the more likely you will be stuck in that rank due to your unsure rating decreasing from playing.
  • The value you lost depends on the match you've played, if the result is same as the expected by system, then there will be no impactful effects on the ratings, but if it is unexpected, major changes will happen. Although it will always be calibrated and adjusted by the Unsure rating.

NOTE :
Playtime does affect your gameplay, but with minimal information I can't tell does it effect your placement match enemies, or even ranked enemies. Although I am level 107 and I usually met people around my level (90-150) which could be what playtime actually affected.
Conclusion (Or TL;DR version)
Certainly, the game was never about getting kills in every round or getting the most score, but it's purely centered on teamwork to actually win the game.

Although it's safe to say that R6S had made your wins as a base/foundation of a rank, even though in my personal opinion this does makes sense, games like R6S aren't fully relying on kills nor gadgets, the game requires more teamwork to gain more advantage than the enemy, even though having a good aim is still a great thing.

With all the "Short" analysis, I can get to a conclusion that Rainbow Six Siege is heavily relying on wins to determine your rank, but with variables like the Unsure rating and playtime, it calibrates you to be matched with people with similar skills and experience which ending up forcing you to gain more advantage by using resources like teamwork, gadgets and even raw power weapons and utilities.

Even though, no system is perfect, and nothing will be.

The rank you have doesn't represent your aim, nor your intellegence ingame, it represents how well you are as a team player just like how DOTA2 refines a Party MMR(before the major rank update).
Some tips for ranked matches.
  • Always play ranked matches with friends or people you met along with the matches you play, sometimes this is very useful with getting your communication together to get more wins.
  • If you are Solo-queueing, don't be afraid to talk to your teammates! Don't miss out a chance working with them, they could be your next mate in the future.
  • Play together as a team, don't create a hostility around your teammates and making your mates toxic.
  • If you found a player that sucks, or you find yourself better than your friends, try teaching them and learning the game together.
  • If you are a lower-skill cap player (ex: Copper-Bronze), try learning some pro tips from ESL Pro League matches or some Youtube videos from the likes of Rouge-9 or ProdigyPete. Don't be afraid to try new things because sometimes it could ended up being very useful in-game. Or simply ask people with higher ranks to teach you.
  • If you found an annoying player, simply use the mute button on the game or simply ignore him so you can focus more to the game rather than hearing his rants.
  • Try to keep your condition on prime like your health, your mood, and even sometimes your situation.
  • Always warm-up every time you started playing, try getting your mind focused before playing seriously to avoid some trouble while playing.
  • Not everyone can play 12 straight matches and be the MVP all the time, find a pace that doesn't mess up your mind to avoid losing focus ingame.
  • If you don't feel like playing ranked, then don't play ranked, probably it's much better to play casual or other games if you don't feel like playing the game.
Thank You!
As this is my first guide, I would like to thank you for reading this guide, either the TL;DR version or the whole guide, or even shared this guide to their friends and communites, I give you my best of thanks for supporting me even in the slightest ways.

If you are wondering the programs/bots that I use in making of this guide, I used RainbowBot for Discord[bots.discord.pw] and r6db.com website, both are useful for checking your stats either on ranked or R6S in general.

Although, I would like to apologize for my imperfections on this guide, especially knowing myself ending up at copper twice (although I just reached Gold just now lmao), This might triggering your thoughts on "why did this noob ass player even considering making this ♥♥♥♥ guide", so I sent you my deepest apologies. I tried my best and this is the result.

I can't guarantee this guide is 100% accurate as I am a human being that will never touch perfection, but if you see anything wrong in this guide or simply you want to sumbit your thoughts, I gladly welcome you guys to help me making this guide better.
