Differential Vanilla

Description
Author: AlfaNick
Built: 9 December 2017

All vanilla components.
Provide power to the side gear (blue).

Workings of this differential:
By giving power to the blue gear axle, the drive arms (grey) turn the top gears (green). This will cause both wheels to turn. When one wheel is obstructed, the green gears will turn and continue to provide power to the other wheel (the one with least resistance).

Enjoy :)

Update 11 December: Updated the differential drive arms. No mechanical change, only visual.

I'll work on that, though I haven't played for long :/

Nice work. Can you try using my differential? I couldnt get enough ground clearance using only vanilla components.

AlfaNick I've converted a real-life design into SM before browsing on the workshop.

It is still a prototype as it still has one major flaw:
the car slide when it hits a ramp, as one wheel isn't touching the ground.
This can be fixed with suspension, though I need more time on testing.

As for now, here's the "traditional" design:

This design lets the outer side of the wheel to be exposed, which is different from your design.

Hi Edward, thanks for testing it thoroughly. Indeed it seems the case. I struggled a lot to incorporate the diff in a sleak designed looking car. Have you had more luck?

It seems to have been fixed after I downloaded the test version of the game. I've tried my old design and it worked magically. Maybe the properties of springs have been updated. Still, I apologise for not testing it thoroughly. You may check out my old design, if you're interested.

or maybe your using it wrong.

Well maybe it glitched out somehow

Hi Edward, it does work. I tried it.

this isn't gonna work when you put it into a car. I have've built a car using the same design, the suspension's resistance isgreater than the friction between the ground and the wheels, so the wheels just slips on turns.
