Lastly, get a hero and level up his pathfinding to 10. Preferably either Deshavi or Borcha. IMO this is an essential part of every campaign. It directly boosts your movement speed around the map, allowing you to tip the scales of the previously mentioned balance.
If you have trouble being encumbered by an inventory filled with Iron Bars then getting a few horses in your inventory will help. Don't get more than 3 horses as their effect diminishes with each new one.
In battle walking slowly is meaningless as most of the times your army will back you up. I never had a problem with 0 Athletics and the heaviest armor in any game as my soldiers were always on my side or keeping the enemy busy. If you want to be a lone wolf or are worried about enemies running away then get a horse, you'll never outrun a horse, even if you had 10 Athletics and no armor.
So the question: How much weight I can care at all, how much till I get overload, how many points in athletics is reasonoble? Any numbers?
