The main page
When you first load scrap.tf, you will be brought to the main page:

In order to do anything with scrap.tf, you will need to login. To do so, click the "Sign in through STEAM" button at the top right. This will bring you to a page that asks you to enter your Steam login information. None of your login information is shared with us. Steam merely tells us what user logged in, we receive none of your credentials.

After logging in, you will be brought to the rules page. Read them, and then go back to the main page by clicking on the scrap.tf logo at the top left.

You will be met with a slightly different main page:

Now we can choose to do one of four things: Weapon bank, Ticket bank, Key bank or Hat bank.
Scrap.tf's trading system
Trading in scrap.tf is slightly different from normal trading. Normally, you send someone a trade request (or they send you one) and then you trade. With scrap.tf, in order to ensure fairness, we use a queue system.

The queue
The queue is fairly straightforward; when you request a trade via scrap.tf, it adds you to the queue. Whenever you enter the queue, you are assigned to a specific bot. As the bot you're assigned to completes trades, you'll move up in the queue until it's your turn. Generally the waiting time for the queue is at max a few minutes, and many times there is no waiting period.

For trades where you want to sell items, you will be assigned to the bot with the least amount of people in its queue. However, for trades where you want to BUY things from a bot--be they hats or weapons--you will be assigned to the queue of the bot whose items you're buying.

Priority
Priority is a system that allows players to move ahead in the queue. Priority is discussed in another section.

Inside of a trade
When you're actually doing a trade with a bot, it's all done via steam trading. For trades where you are buying items, the bot will place its items up, tell you how much you owe, and wait for you to hit ready. For trades where you're selling items, the bot will simply wait for you to add your items, and adjust the metal it puts up accordingly.

If there are any issues with the trade--uncraftable weapons, etc--the bot will inform you via the trade's chat.

Trade time limits
When inside a trade, if you do not do anything for a small period of time, the bot will cancel the trade and move on. However, there is also a global time limit--of around three minutes--where the bot will cancel the trade anyways even if you're doing things. This is to ensure fairness to other traders.

Change
Change is provided for when you are buying items. For instance, if a bot asks you for a reclaimed metal, but you only have a refined, then it will put in two reclaimed as change.

Note, however, that we cannot guarantee that the bot will have enough change to match. In instances such as this, the bot will put in as much change as it can, but will be short some. ALWAYS CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU'RE RECEIVING THE RIGHT AMOUNT.

Item limits
During a trade, you are only allowed to sell or buy a certain amount of items at once. This number varies based on the type of trade you're doing, how much you've donated to scrap.tf, and whether or not you're a priority member. You can view your limits by going to our Help page[scrap.tf] whilst logged in.
Weapon banking
Weapon banking is the most useful feature of scrap.tf, for new and old players alike. Essentially, weapon banking allows you to exchange your craftable weapons for scrap--but not only that, it allows you to BUY weapons from us FOR scrap.

Scrap banking rates

Unlike many scrapbankers, scrap.tf has completely fair rates. For every two craftable weapons you give us, we will give you 1 scrap. When you choose to buy weapons, you only need to give us 1 scrap per two weapons. This is completely fair both ways.

Scrap banking

In order to scrapbank, hit "Bank weapons" on the main page. You will be brought to this page:

We only want to sell weapons right now, so to do that, simply click "Scrap weapons." You will be added to the queue, and a bot will add you when it's your turn to trade.

Reverse banking

Some traders don't want to sell weapons; they simply want to buy them. If you're that kind of trader, then this is for you. Reverse banking is simply the reverse of scrap banking--you choose any two (or more) weapons from our bots, and give us a scrap for every two weapons. We do not price any weapons differently--no matter what weapon it is, it always costs 0.5 scrap both ways.

To reverse bank, hit "Bank weapons" on the main page. When you get to this page:

Instead of clicking "Scrap weapons," simply click on a bot's name. At the time of writing, we have seven scrapbots available (six to non-donators). The only difference between them is the fact that they all have different inventories and levels of stock, so if a weapon isn't on one bot, it's likely to be on another.

When you click on a bot, you'll be brought to a page like this:

To buy weapons, simply click on any of the weapons listed. As you click on more weapons, the counter above the list of weapons will go up, showing you what it will cost. A faded out weapon indicates that it's "Dirty"--EG, it was gifted or crafted by someone.

When you've selected all your items, click "Finish trade" and wait for a bot to add you.
Key and ticket banking
Key/ticket banking are useful to higher-tier traders who are looking to buy more expensive things with keys or metal.

This section will focus on key banking, though ticket banking is almost entirely the same process.

Key prices
Due to the nature of the key market, the key prices on scrap.tf will change every so often. When you go to the keybanking page, it will tell you the current prices for keys that we go by.

The Sell price is the price that we will buy keys from you for.
The Buy price is the price that you must pay per key.

Selling keys
To sell keys, click "Key banking" on the main page. Then click on "sell keys" and wait for the bot to add you. Trade it your keys, and you're done.

Buying keys
In order to buy keys, click "Key banking" on the main page, then click "Buy keys." The page will then display how many keys are available for purchase. In the event that there are no keys available, it will display a refresh button that you can press to refresh the amount of keys there are available.

To purchase keys, simply type in the amount you want, and click "Purchase."
Hat banking
Hat banking is useful for turning your spare craftable hats into metal, or for buying craftable hats with metal.

Hat banking prices
Hat banking is at a fixed price point, at 1.33 refined per-hat both ways.
However, there is a small one-time fee associated with buying hats. The very first hat you buy will cost you 1.66 refined, and every subsequent hat forever will cost 1.33 refined. There is no fee for selling hats.

Selling hats
To sell hats, simply click "Bank hats" on the main page, and then click "Sell hats." You will be added to the queue, and a bot will trade you when ready.

Buying hats
To buy a hat, click "Bank hats" on the main page. This process works exactly the same as reverse weapon banking. Click on a bot's name, and choose your hats. When you're done, click "Finish trade." Just as in weapon banking, a faded out hat indicates that it's "dirty," so it is probably best used for crafting.

There are currently two bots used for hat banking.
Searching for items
It can be very annoying to have to check each bot's inventory for items, so there is also a search function.

In order to search for a specific weapon or hat, simply type its name into the search field at the top right of any page. A drop down will display with possible items; click the one you want, highlight the field and press enter. It will search for you in-page and display a dropdown displaying which bots contain that item, and how many each bot has. If no bots have the item, it will display "Found 0 items."
Priority and donations
In order to keep the site running, we need to make a profit. Rather than charge the traders for each individual trade--which would turn a MASSIVE profit--we've elected to make it easier for the traders and simply take donations and "priority" subscriptions.

Priority
Priority is a very small monthly fee (currently at 4 scrap metal per month) that nets you a range of features. These features are:
  • Priority queueing. Never wait too long to get a trade in.
  • Trade weapons for weapons.
  • Scrap banking limits increased by 10.
  • Other trade limits increased by 2.

Donating
We also accept donations in the form of both money and items. To donate, visit our Donation page[scrap.tf]. We currently accept PayPal for monetary donations, and we accept various items in place of money. Donating $5 or more nets you the following benefits:

  • A special scrapbot only for donators.
  • A custom user title.
  • Removal of ads

In addition, for every $1 you donate, your trade limits go up.

Note: donating does not get you priority benefits, nor does priority grant donation benefits.
