Introduction
Hello welcome, in this guide im going to be looking into the camping rusher and other market figures market manipulation techniques. This guide is in no way meant to be a attack on CR and is simply a economic explanation how his actions have manipulated the rocket league markets, whether that be deliberatley or not.

Non of this guide is meant to show my personal opinion, its simply looking at the controversy from a economic standpoint.

The situation
For those of you unaware, there has recentley been controvery in the rocket league community regarding market manipulation by community figures. This week there it has been brought to public attention that figures who control dominant price guides on the PS4 platform have been changing certain items for there own and friends gain. Below is a video from Nexiph looking into more detail at the allegations.

Within the PC community there has been similar controversy this week after fan allegations accusing popular youtuber TheCampingRusher of using his influence to manipulate the market. This has led to a "response" from him today-

The allegations have come up due to a number of videos posted by the youtuber showcasing items he had bought, and the criticism is due to a number of factors-
  • On each video CR has claimed he payed a key amount considerably higher than the actual price
  • Its common knowledge that a large amount of the items showcased has risen in price after his videos were published.
  • CR has been seen to stockpile items in the past in order to earn profit
  • CR has never published these videos without stockpiling the item first, in order to buy them low and sell high
  • CR has strong connections to key trading figures, high up in the market such as his friend XYZ Trading.
  • CR has ties with key pricing figure Sajuuk

Evidence
The most clear evidence of market mainpulation from CR has to be from his stockpiling of White Voltaics. His video below published Aug 26 2017, showed he had stockpiled a large amount of TW Voltaics in preperation to there rise. He had eluded to this in a previous video but did not tell viewers which item he was stockpiling in order to avoid a price rise before he had stockpiled the item. This by itself is evidence that CR knew his actions via youtube would cause a price rise.

Very shortly after this video was released the price of TW voltaics rose considerably due to a increase in demand for the item. This however was not sustainable growth and is reffered to in economics as a demand surge. Some would argue that this could of been simple coincidence, however shortly after this demand surge, prices lowered quickly suggesting that the demand was artificial and therefore the market was infact manipulated. In CR's latest video he addressed his voltaic stockpiling allegation but defended himself by saying he still has the white voltaics in his inventory, despite not giving evidence of this. Regardless of wether he sold the items or not, this is the most solid evidence of market manipulation from CR.

Shortly after CR published the video below, stating that a glitch in the market had led to a sudden decline in prices, this is probably the most worrying part of all this. He admits to being in contact with the popular trader and pricer Sajuuk. CR stated that Sajuuk had messaged him to inform him a glitch in the system had caused a sudden price drop in TW volts, however it was perceived as suspicous that CR would publish this, with people saying he was trying to recover his investment for his own gain. A price guide glitch would not affect his investment in the long term unless the growth was inorganic.

He also introduces a new price guide website. I would like to remind everyone of the CSGO controvery last year where key YT figures were found to own CSGO websites in order to gain for themselves. I have no evidence of this but keep in mind that all price guides are controlled by people and unfortunatley often are not accurate.

My second piece of evidence is his number of item showcase videos-

Each one shows him buying a item from his friend XYZ for a pre decided price, in each case he has been criticised that he purposefully bought the item for noticibly more than its actualy price. And for alot of the items, they artificially rose in price shortly after the videos were uploaded. The reason for there growth (assuming it was as a result of CR's videos) was due to 2 factors. Purposefully overpaying for the item led to misinformation for fans, causing people with the item to instantly begin pricing the item at the same price CR had advertised. And secondly by advertising the item and in some cases speculating its price rise opportunity, it caused a demand surge raising the price.

In these videos there no evidence of him stockpiling these items, however what is more likely considering hes getting the items from trader XYZ, its his friend who is stockpiling the item instead.
The Economics Behind It All
Theres some basic economic prinicipals i should explain which hopefully will aid you in this situation, the main one is Demand & Supply.

Demand & Supply
Demand and supply is the economic effect in which price is controlled by the 2 factors- Demand & Supply. Its effects can be shown in the following graph-

When demand for a item rises, it gives sellers the icentive to raise its price. When supply for a item rises, there more of that item in the market and therefore the price lowers. There are a number of factors that can affect both, however not all is relevant in the rocket league market.

It is demand and supply that effects the price guides on rocket league, however since theres no external way to view what items are actually selling for in RL, our price guides are somewhat subjective. This is why the PS4 price guide controversy has occured.

The second economic priniciple im going to mention is imperfect knowledge, this is the theory that consumer knowledge on items and there prices is never fully perfect in a market. This is what allows you to earn profit, if everyone knew the exact price, no one would ever be able to make non investment profit.

Imperfect knowledge is whats allowed CR to claim items are worth higher than they actually are.
Summary
Regardless of wether CampingRusher intended any of these actions, or is making profit on them. Its fairly clear that his actions have manipulated the market (Its up to you to decide wether this is a bad thing). The main risk in this is a unfair advantage to anyone who piggy backs of these videos. CampingRusher and other community figures should regulate there videos and take responsibilitys for there actions regardless of the circumstances.

Long story short, if you ever want to make some $$$ just befriend someone with millions of subs.

I hope you all like my guide, please keep arguments to the minimum in the comments as that was not the reason for making this guide.
