First Example
First of all you need atleast some metal for any of these. Wood works too but the wood traps are much worse than steel ones. So lets begin. You will need a clear entrance for your traps so that the raiders will see a easy way into your base. This means, you should not have any doors from the start of your traps to the finish or if you want any just keep them on hold open.

Okay so lets start with the first trap.
The red line is where the raiders will go. But be aware, atleast some times for me the raider has stopped in the middle of the trap and destroyed it. He still died but i had to remake the trap afterwards.

The blue line is where your settlers will go. Because settlers avoid traps they wont go through the traps to get out. And thats the problem when you have to rearm the traps, if they want to rearm the one in the middle they have to walk through it all and they will probably die.

To prevent this you need doors on one side of the traps, this is just so your settlers can go to each door and open it up to rearm. This can get costly so i recommend that you use wood atleast in the early part of the game.
Second Example
The second example on how you can build a trap is by doing this.
It may not be the most efficent one but you can make yours how you want.
Red=Raiders path

This is how your settlers will handle the traps.
Third Example
This example was suggested by Greenborg and Kage

The raiders will have a really hard time moving through it and you can make it even larger if you want.

Because settlers move diagonaly they will just walk right past the traps easily. They can even rearm them too. By far my favorite one.

This guide is 4 years old at this point, i have no idea about how it performs in the current state of the game but back then it was highly effective. You didn't need defence and steel was pretty easy to get.

Hope it helped you get some ideas for your current builds though, good luck!

This is ok , but you'll need custom with like 300% ores , metal traps take like 75 steel each one to rearm , they will eat your steel supply very very fast

Just include additions to have traps be spaced 2 apart instead of one.

Also, in the last examples, putting sandbags on the empty spaces will even force raiders that normally evade traps on the traps themselves. Your colonists and friendlies will skip the traps entirely and instead get slowed down a bit.

Well, it's fixed now so you can't place traps right next to each other now. Makes it less effective but it should still be to some help.

Well randy's been giving me raids galore with zero recovery time, so this might come in handy, even if sappers can circumvent them.

Well, if my people can actually construct it before more raids come of course xD

I usually just fight the battles.
