Intro, General Info & Tips

Hey there hunter, welcome! Hektor has given me quite a troublesome time, so I chose to make a guide to ease everyone who'd like to also complete this game. Most of the achievements are easy, except a few annoying exceptions. Join our achievement hunting Discord: 100Pals![www.discord.me]

Before we start, I'd like to give a few tips and certain things you have to look out for while playing the game:

Game Settings


Let's be real, if you're reading this, you wanna get the achievements and not care about the "full experience" of the game. This means you wanna turn off all the trippy effects the game has in order to even be able to play it, I rather play games and not get nasty migraines.

I suggest you alter these settings to make the game easier to sit through:
Options > Video
Callibrate Gamma: 1.5
Insanity Effects: 30%
Benzo Effects: 30%
SSAO: Off
Depth of Field: Off
Apply

Everytime you start the game, you have to change and apply the settings, they reset everytime.

After a completed playthrough
When you complete a playthrough, I strongly suggest you quit the game and delete the UserData folder (your savegame) located in Steam\steamapps\common\Hektor to prevent any bugs of ocurring during the next playthrough:

Cumulative Achievements (Hoarder / Intervention)
These will stack over time, they should unlock while you hunt the other achievements:

Hoarder
Pick up 100 items.


Notes, batteries, pills and lithium all count for this. The darker the room is, the easier it is to spot the arrows that indicate a pickable item, this is why getting all the Notes is easier on your R. Charles playthrough (complete the game without any light sources):


Intervention
Consume 100 pills.


If you turned off the game effects like I suggested, taking these or not doesn't make much of a difference, however if you're not doing a Down the Rabbit Hole achievement playthrough, consume all the pills you pick up immediately because getting killed by the Predator reduces all items to half.
First Playthrough
This should be the playthrough you do mostly blind, but we'll use it to get rid of some easy stuff... I'll already alert you to look out of for the Notes (40) and the Meatball Cans (7). The notes are placed on the same spots but if you miss one it'll be placed on the next level you enter, so missing one is actually really hard, you'll get it when you start understanding how the game works. Getting 40 notes is rather easy, but you can choose to get it on your R. Charles playthrough to make it even easier.


Most Cowardly, Most Frantic
This one is easy to miss, you keep stopping for a split second to pick up a note or open a door, so just as you're starting keep moving and not stopping for 5 minutes - easy task but easily forgettable too.

Sorry I’m late, Boss
Ghasts are these lovely looking fellas, they scream at you and then vanish, alerting the Predator to your location. Simply approach them 3 times (the first encounter is mandatory at the end of Act I)

Underdog
The predator is introduced mid Act I, he's a bulky dark guy that runs in a rather funny animation. He usually appears after you hear his roaring sound. His encounters will become trivial, so basically let yourself be killed 3 times for this achievement. Butt pic related (sexy!):


Underdog
Get killed by the Predator more than 3 times.



A.E.A.
After you use the cargo elevator and you start the Dream II section, you'll encouter the Sniper enemies, they're basically blind since they only react when you approach them, all you need to do is to bump into them twice.

Get strangled by the sniper more than once in Dream II.



Disobedient
At the start of Act III, you'll be asked to pull the lever to the indicated directions, just pull it to the opposite side 5 times and this easy one is yours!


Disobedient
Pull the Lever in the wrong direction 5 times.



Thick Skin
I think this one is rather buggy, I can almost guarantee I got this just as I was going to be hit by the Predator and paused the game. You can get hit 2 times before a final blow from the Predator, so this means you have to escape him 2 times successfully. He will spawn quite a few times on Act III, so it's definitely the best place to try this.

Get hit by the Predator 5 times without dying.


After completing the game you should know how the game works and what to do in every Act / Dream, so we can start to get into the harder stuff...
Second Playthrough (No Lights / Notes / Meatball Cans)
It's time to go dark and not using any pills! This playthrough is very tedious as you won't be seeing almost ANYTHING on dark areas, so look for light switches when you can. You have to pick up the lighter and flashlight to progress in the game but you can't turn them on, ever!

You can still pickup all items to progress towards the Hoarder achievement, but sadly you can't take any pills for Intervention.

R. Charles
Complete game without using the Lighter or the Flashlight.


Down the Rabbit Hole
Play through the whole game without consuming any drugs.


Energy Saver
Play thourgh the whole game without using any batteries.



Conspiracy Theorist
As I have said earlier, it's easier to get all the Notes (40) on this playthrough because of the little arrow indicating an item is near. Do notice that the final note in the game also counts, so you'll have 39 before entering the chess room and getting the hidden note behind the bookcase. Another thing to point out is that the note in Dream I might be essential and missable so be sure to get it (next to the water lever).


There's a little trick to "farm" notes - When you have to put a chess piece on the table the game will make you go in circles and you'll end up always on that same room. Up to 3 notes can spawn in here, so if you get 3 notes and not put the chess piece on the board, exit the room, go around and enter it again so you can get up to 3 notes again. Repeat until you have 39 notes.

Conspiracy Theorist
Collect all notes in a single playthrough.

Finding all meatballs is actually easy, but unfortunately Steam stats say you have 6 to pick up and that's false, there's actually 7 to pick up in total.

Act I
1/7 Right after picking up the lighter and seeing the "Take your meds" poster, look on the left.



2/7 When you go down the stairs after the metal door (shortly after the first can), you'll find a locker room area, one of the cans is hidden inside one of the lockers.



3/7 This is probably the only one that you might not get to spawn on a playthrough because of whole generated aspect of the game, but it's almost guaranteed to appear. During the tape section there's a set of rooms that might appear. One of these room's doors is wide open and you can find a can inside.




4/7 This can come up before the third can or after it, so keep an eye out. This happens after finding the tape, right after Predator tries to smash a metal door in front of you. When you open this door the can is right in front of you, but you have to go around to grab it. Quick, the Predator is coming!




Act II
5/7 When you find the generator area with the two levers, it's in front of you.



6/7 When you're trying to fix the elevator, is located on top of a metal box right across one of the two elevator's rooms.




Act III
?/7 This can is probably a bug so you should ignore, but if it spawns for you, do pick it up just to be sure. This one is on the area with a corpse in the middle, if you go into the rooms around that corpse you'll see the can next to a locker.


Epilogue
7/7 The last can is located after setting fire to the hotel room, don't jump into the flames! If you open the door to your right, you'll see the can right away!

Only speed related achievements left!
Third Playthrough (Speedrun / God Mode)
If you're going for a speedrun, chances are you don't want to get hit (duh), you'll probably get God Mode on this run as this achievement is quite buggy, I died about 3 times and still got it, but obviously avoid getting hit as much as possible (Ghasts don't damage you, only the Predator).

God Mode
Complete the game without taking any damage.


Act I:
Pick up the Lighter
Wander through the maze (that's required)
Interact with the steel door and turn back
Find the Surveillance room
Try to watch the tape and Eject it
Find the second tape
Encounter the Predator for the first time
Use the tape on the first surveillance room
Open the secret metal compartment with the Keycard and the Flashlight
Open the door with the Keycard
Get screamed at by the first Ghast

Dream I:
Since you're trying to complete the game as fast as possible, you can get Fire Hazard on this playthrough too:

Go left
Go front
Go right
Pick up King
Go to the door in the front
Go Left
Go down the stairs to your left
Pull the door to the front and turn off the water.

Fire Hazard
Turn off the water in under 1 minute in Dream I.


Exit the room and go to the now unlocked door to be shot.

Act II:
Interact with the left mirror (in the crack)
Find the generator room
Remove the metal pipe blocking the huge cogwheel on the floor
Activate both levers
Find a staircase that goes downwards and interact with the White door
Find the cargo elevator lever and pull it
Get the Cover from the powered off elevator
Use the Cover on the working elevator and use it to go up

Dream II
Go front
Enter the door that opens
Pick up note
Go back and enter the door in the front
When you reach the enemy section go to the end of the hall, right, left, left, right
Sprint and wait for the guy with the Revolver
Turn back and use the elevator

Act III:
Go to the first area and wait until the door opens
Pull the lever to what direction you're asked to
Open the door and go to the door to the right
Door to the right again
Follow the arrows
When you can choose, take the left path to save a few seconds
Exit the "testing" area
Find the chess room
Use King on the chess board
Find the room where you got the tape in Act I
Pick up Pawn
Use Pawn on the chess board
Find the asylum hall with Rook in the middle and pick it up
Use Rook on the chess board
Find Knight on one of the asylum rooms (where you see the hands stick out)
Use Knight on the chess board
Go to another chess board room to find Queen and use it
Find the last chess room with the bookshelf on the floor where you can pick the last note
Try to exit the room

Epilogue:
Go to the door on the right
Enter the semi-opened door to pick up the Gasoline
Go back to the first area and go front
Proceed to enter the door on the front
Inside the hotel room, open the door next to the desk
Go to the end of the archives hall and the screen will fade to black
Step into the flames
The End.

Speed Run
Complete the game in under one hour.
Scaredy Cat - Depot
This achievement is unobtainable on this version of the game so you have to download an older version and run it to get Scaredy Cat.

1. Unlock the Steam console by pasting this on your browser:
steam://nav/console

2. On the Steam client's console paste this and press enter:
download_depot 334070 334071 4198023758532590651
This will download an older version of Hektor (does not work if the game is being Family Shared).

3. The depot will be located in Steam\steamapps\content\app_334070\depot_334071

4. Copy the depot files to the main Hektor folder, you have to backup/delete the existing files.

5. Launch the game through Steam, watch the introduction and when you pick up the lighter, move your mouse like crazy so the fire blows out!

Scaredy Cat
Make the Lighter blow out by moving mouse quickly.

I think dying resets a couple achievements just like God Mode does. I got Down the Rabbit Hole and Energy Saver along with God Mode in my first playthrough, didn't use anything but the lighter after my last death near the end but used batteries and drugs throughout the game.

God mode - I believe death resets your hits

The missable note according to others:
After you put the tape in, a ghost girl appears on the crate, and a note spawns next to her after she disappears.

For those those struggling with getting all 40 notes but keep ending up with 39, Make sure you pickup a specific note next to the "ghost girl" when she's sitting down on a crate. Note doesn't seem to appear anywhere else in the game.

So, I got the notes by now, but the depot for Scaredy Cat achiev is still not working.

Hi, I only got 39 notes in total. I found one in dream 1, one in dream 2 and one at the end, the other ones I mostly farmed. Any idea where the last one could be?
