Relations and personalities of Calradia

This guide is centered around raising your dispositions with all the various kings, lords, villages, towns and kingdoms in the Native version of this game, as well as the benefits or disadvantages that come with having a particularly low/high relations with said NPCs.

Introduction
Hey, this guide is meant for people who may be confused as to what advantage to your game it may have to increase relationships with all kinds of NPCs in the native module and pretty much all other mods you can play. Depending on your goals in this sandbox game, raising dispostitions may or may not have a huge impact on the scenario you're about to play though, and thus the relatively large input of time to get a good foothold in the friendzones of the singleplayer could not be worth your while.
Personalities of Lords and their effects
All monarchs of factions have the same neutral personality to you in common, and that means that they won't regard you less highly for having a less prestigious background (the settings you choose at the start of the game, your parents' occupation, your status in society etc.), and that's why they're actually somewhat uninteresting for the sake of this guide.

The lords of the factions, however, all possess one out of seven unique personalities, which effect their behaviour in battle, the way they talk to you and treat you, the targets they prioritize when travelling on the world map, their trust, loyalty, and ultimately, the value of any kingdom they may or may not be a part of.
The 7 personalities are all given to lords randomly at the start of each new playthrough, that's why it's pointless to make a list for their personalities in the long run and accross multiple walkthroughs. Those personalities can be determined by the things they'll say. These types are:

- upstanding
- martial
- good-natured
- quarrelsome
- calculating
- pitiless
- debauched

As stated above, all of them will have different preferences and opinions towards foreigners (you starting the game), personal status, wars and battles, and being captured or released after being defeated in battle. Again, their personalities can be determined by what they say to you.



This response indicates that the lord is Martial, so he's probably one of the better assets in an army, thus you should let him go to be on good terms with him at some point.
If he were bad-tempered (quarrelsome, pitiless, debauched), they will either insult you or curse the day they got captured by you. If you let them go free, you will get +5 reputation on the spot, but if you ever meet them again, you'll immediately lose 15 points in reputation. So there's really no shame in taking them prisoner...

According to this, pitiless lords are perfectly happy to go into battle and slaughter any lordly armies they can come accross, but at the same get incredibly jealous of their liege giving fiefs to anyone but themselves and therefore are likely to defect.
On the other hand, a good-natured guy will detest wars and rather kill bandit parties instead of intervening in battles with enemy lords, but therefore they're extremely loyal to their liege's cause.
Reasons for friendships with fellow humans
Rulers

The main benefit for monarchs is that they will give you more fiefs, and are less likely to declare war on you if you have your own kingdom. In turn, having a bad relation with them will make them siginificantly more more likely to attack your kingdom if you'll ever desire to have one and they'll deny
giving you any fiefs. If you ever find yourself of the other end of their sword and they're attacking you, having high disposition will allow you to ask them not to attack and move on instead. Doing that will results in the loss of some relationship-points

Lords

Being on good relations with them will prove more important as you control your own kingdom, at which point it goes as far as being absolutely necassary if you want to have any offensive presence on the map. If they like you, they will join your kingdom if you ask them to, and this will allow you to convert even some of the most desireable, otherwise loyal lords over to your side. Much like the leaders mentioned above, a high degree of friendship will allow you to avoid battles with them.

You can view your relations with kings, ladies and lords alike by clicking on their picture on the top left side of the screen when talking to them in the field, this applies to all 3 of those groups.

Having relation of -20 with a bad-tempered lord (quarrelsome, pitiless, debauched) may result in them hiring assassins to attack you at an inn. Though there's no need to worry, as they are somewhat really incompetent either way and will likely not do much harm.

These kinds of lords will also have a negative impression depending on your starting background, so if you're a street urgin for example they will hate you from the get go.

Another important aspect is that if you have negative reputation with a certain lord, you will not be able to purchase a productive enterprise in his town, so you need to get it back up to at least 0. If you already have an enterprise in a city, but then another lord gets the town who negative reputation, it won't matter in that case and you will still get your weekly income.

Ladies

There are no female warlords in the game, but instead Ladies are the daughters and sisters of other male vassals in the game. They can be courted and married later on to be your Minister when you have your own kingdom so you don't have to sacrifice a companion for the job, and marrying them will give you some right to rule.
Reasons for friendships with settlements or organizations
Towns

Being on good terms with a city doesn't do a whole lot for you, to be honest. You need a reputation of at least 0 with the town (and at least 0 with the owner of the town) to purchase an enterprise and you will get slightly better bartering prizes with a lot of reputation, too.

Villages

Being friends with a village will allow you to recruit far more soldiers (sometimes up to around 30) at once and the troops will sometimes also be on a higher tier to begin with. For example, they won't be Nord Recruits but Nord Footmen instead. Having negative reputation will disqualify you from recruiting units all together and having a reputation above 10 will allow you to recruit soldiers even if you're at war with the faction that currently owns the village.

You can view your disposition with them by going to them manually or clicking Notes -> Locations -> *name*. This works with towns too.



Factions

Having any negative reputation with them will result in them being at war with you specifically and hunting you down, even if your faction isn't at war with them. For this matter, don't raid villages randomly and don't attack lords if you're not at war.

Improving relations with humans
Ladies

What you could do to get a relationship with them started is winning a tournament and dedicating your victory to them. After that, you could ask them for a favour where they will either task you to rescue their father or brother from prison, or she'll ask you to duell another lord for her. Then you could continue transferring tourney victories to your wife of choice or you could go visit her when she requests it, and if she does request it, you'll get a notification. If you need any help at raising disposition with any of the lords in the faction she's a part of when the lords' appeal to you dropped under 0, you can give her money to buy gifts for the lords in her faction and fix the reputation back up to 0. The exchange rate is 1000 denars for +1 reputation.

Kings

Just ask them for quests and they'll give you all sorts of jobs, from training some units for them to collecting taxes from one of their fiefs. Failling certain quests will result in a dispostion penalty though, so make sure you only take jobs that you think you might have a chance completing. You can also rescue them from prison, but more on that one later.
If you let them go after you defeated them, they'll get +5 reputation.

Lords

See "Kings".
When you're having your own faction, you can give them fiefs to improve the reputation. The Lord's reputation you're giving it to will go up by 10, but some other lords will decrease while others again will appreciate your choice of gifting the fief to their friend. Bad-tempered lords will lose relation if you let them go after defeating them because they think you humiliated them (-15!!), so just take them prisoner. Letting lords go will always improve honor by +1 too.



Prison breakings

In my personal opinion, this is the best, fastest and easiest way to gain relation and it works for lords and kings. Sometimes a family member of an imprisoned vassal or monarch will task you to free them from prison, but the good thing is that you don't even really need a quest to do this and gain +7 relation with every lord you can rescue from prison, so it just makes sense to go around castles and towns of 2 factions that are in war with one another and look if there are any lords being held prisoner. It looks like this:



What you have to do is just enter the city, ideally go to the castle/keep of the town and then just walk out of the door again, and there should be the entrance to the prison, right at the exit of the castle. Then talk to the prison guard.



Pick the option at the bottom...



And then click the most bottom option again. This will trigger combat, though the prison guard will not be moving for a couple of seconds, allowing you to quickly kill him if you're strong enough or at least damage him severely to finish him up. As soon as he's dead, enter the prison immediately and don't bother fighting the guards outside, as they'll just respawn as soon as you leave the prison again.





^You can choose wheather you want him to fight or let you do the fighting. If he's at full health, and if he's not, try to take care of the guards outside alone. Depending on the city there will now be 5-6 guards walking towards you.
Notice that if he gets knocked out, the prison break attempt was worthless and you have to try again. If you get knocked out, you will be captured and your army will be gone, so try to be careful.

The good thing about this method of gaining reputation is that even though you're killing the entire city watch, nobody will ever be angry with you, not the owner of the city nor the city itself or the faction. The only change is that you just gained +7 friendlyness. You also gain +1 honor for every lord you can free.


Improving relations with settlements
Cities

You can go to the innkeeper and give him 1000 gold to pay for everyone's drink there to get +1 relation, or you could do quests for the guildmaster.

Villages

Sometimes, when you're at an inn, you will find a farmer who fled from his nearby village because it's getting attacked by bandits, so you can choose to help him.





If you do decide to accept his quest, hurry up to help out the village, or it will get sacked and you'll lose relation because you promised to help but at the end, didn't. Sometimes you can find bandits attacking the village even without taking the quest. If you get knocked out during battle, you will lose relation too and the village will get burned to the ground.



You should always deny the 50 denars offered to you as a reward, because if you don't take them, the relation will improve by +7 in total.



Doing quests for the guildmaster will work too.

Factions

Being at war will cause the faction to be at -40, attacking a lord will decrease it by -3 each further. This will make no difference though, as they're already hostile. If there's peace, the relation will be reset to 0, and if you rescue a lord from prison, it'll go up by +2. Furthermore, owning a faction will clock you at 100 and being a vassal at 40.
