Setting Up Mudfish VPN for Rainbow Six: Siege
Da Chonker
A basic guide to help you set up Mudfish in order normalize the horrible ping/connection that players experience when connecting to nearby servers. This guide was made with players from Philippines in mind.

Register and verify your account then download Mudfish
In order to correctly set up Mudfish, you'll need to have Mudfish up running first so:
  • Register and verify your account. You'll get free data after verifying your account then you can use that to try out the VPN.
  • Download, install, and launch Mudfish.

You should be seeing this page with an IP address as the URL: http://127.0.0.1:8282/admin/dashboard

Equip Rainbow Six Siege in Mudfish
Mudfish has a large list of games that it can work with. You can equip multiple items and you can set them up with their own settings. Mudfish will automatically determine which game you're playing and apply the corresponding configuration.

To equip Rainbow Six Siege
  • Click Item > Equip Items
  • Look for Rainbow Six Siege then click it.

  • Auto Refresh: On
  • Server Location: (Choose which server you're playing on: Hong Kong for EAS / Singapore for SEAS)
  • Nodes: You'll be choosing the Mudfish node/server to connect to here. We'll cover this in the following steps.
Check which nodes give you the best connection
(Reminder: You should do the setup after launching Mudfish. Don't do this using only the website because it provides inaccurate information with regards to your connection! This goes for both using FullVPN or not using FullVPN)

To see which nodes has the best connection for you,
  • Click Status > Nodes
  • You should see a large table of nodes. Arrange them by RTT Avg. by clicking the table header, RTT. Avg. The result should be something like this:

If you're playing in EAS, you'd want to take note of the HK nodes. Similarly, SG nodes for SEAS. You get the idea.

For now, let's say I'm playing in EAS.
  • Take note of the nodes with the lowest RTT Avg for Hong Kong.
  • With the image above, we have:
    • Hong Kong - Cloudie
    • Hong Kong - Aliyun
    • Hong Kong - Klayer

You don't always have to choose the one with the lowest RTT Avg. You're gonna have to do some trial and error to discover which one gives you the best gaming experience (Lower ping and minimal rubber banding). There are lots more nodes you can try besides the ones I showed you.
Finishing the setup
We have our three nodes we selected earlier:
  • Hong Kong - Cloudie
  • Hong Kong - Aliyun
  • Hong Kong - Klayer

Let's go back to the Rainbow Six Siege setup for nodes:

Apply one of them and test if the node you chose works well for you. In this case, I'll be choosing Hong Kong - Aliyun. After that, click Equip the Item.

You're good to go! Just take note that if you're going to use Mudfish, your NAT Type will become Strict.

Without VPN

With VPN
Another way of using Mudfish (FullVPN)
There are actually TWO ways to use Mudfish, the one I showed you earlier was without the FULLVPN feature. The other way is the one making use of FullVPN.

What's the difference?
  • With FullVPN, Mudfish will manage/direct everything you do with your network connection like browsing Facebook and Youtube to the Mudfish node you are connected to. That means everything you do that consumes data will count towards your Mudfish credits.
  • Without FullVPN, Mudfish will only count the data you are consuming while you play the game. You can browse FB or youtube without having to worry about your Mudfish credits.
  • The drawback for not using FullVPN is that it sometimes won't do its job and returns your ping into whatever it was without the VPN but that happens rarely. I recommend you turn off FullVPN but I'm still putting this here for you to try out if you ever want to.

(Reminder: You should do the setup after launching Mudfish. Don't do this using only the website because it provides inaccurate information with regards to your connection! This goes for both using FullVPN or not using FullVPN)

If you don't want to use FullVPN, just leave this off. Otherwise continue reading.

To turn on FullVPN,
  • Click Setup > Program > FullVPN
  • Under the Full VPN Feature, you can select the same node you used earlier with the Rainbow Six Siege item or you can choose a different one. Mudfish will use the node you selected here regardless of the one you are using with the item. In the image below, Mudfish will be using Hong Kong - Klayer
  • If you're unsure what node to select, go to Status > Nodes then arrange the table according to RTT Avg then choose the node with low RTT avg. Like this:
  • Click Save when you're done.

After that, you're good to go and play Rainbow Six SIege!

Got questions about Mudfish?
If you're encountering problems with Mudfish you should go ask the people from Mudfish. Go to your dashboard and look for this. They usually respond within a few hours to a few days. Just be patient.

Can you explain a bit more about "only works well with low ping when activating full vpn"?
Chonker  [autore] 3 giu 2018, ore 5:13
It should last you about 3months or more. Data consumption is usually low for games like Rainbow Six.

I should also add that since the removal of NAT restrictions, connection to the R6 servers has been better. This means there is less need for VPNs in this game unless you are experiencing (1) Recurring ping spikes or (2) High ping even if connected to the nearest R6 server.

Playing from East Coast to a friend from West Coast made basically not even a 1% change, I had 80-90ms before and after. It might however have reduced the amount of spiking I had before where it would jump to 100ms randomly, there are no way for me to verify that.

With regards to using VPNs and the SSA, refer to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/73iop4/usage_of_vpn_is_not_strictly_prohibited/

The post says that you can use VPNs to play Steam games but you can't use it to buy games.

Hello, thank you for this wonderful guide, really damn helpful. I would just like to clarify one thing, does the use of mudfish in any way violate steam regulations? i've read that steam does not allow VPN's. does this violate any terms of service clauses?

Kasalanan to lahat ng PLDT. Grabe ang pangit ng routing.

Salamat!
