Use Workshop mods in other emulators
By aaron
Want to use a different emulator than SEGA's own, that doesn't have a laggy room always rendered? Well, worry no more, you can finally play all your Workshop mods with a better than miserable FPS!

Step 1: Find your mod on the Workshop
This step is pretty simple, just find your mod! But, once you have found your mod, take note of the URL.

Let's say our URL is "http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=123456789&searchtext=wew"

Well, we basically need to remember the text between "id=" and "&" (or sometimes the URL just ends after the id)
Step 2: Find the ROM
After Subscribing to the mod, navigate to your Steam folder, which normally is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\"

Next, find the folder steamapps, then workshop, then content, and finally, 34270.

Now, about that id we remembered earlier. What was it again? Ahh, 123456789! Navigate into the folder named the id of the mod. Now, you should see a bin file in there. That's the ROM!
Step 3: Play!
After grabbing your ROM, you can copy it to an easily accessible location, like your Emulator's directory! Of course, you can always just open it from where it is, which then it will auto update when the mod updates.

Now, for a Genisis Emulator, I recommend Fusion, but there are many out there! (Actually, about 8...)

Great guide.
However, I would recommend using RetroArch instead of Fusion. There are multiple emulator cores provided by RetroArch's repository. Although setting things up can be a pain sometimes, depending on your controller.

RetroArch also has Online Multiplayer, I don't recall if there is any match-making feature though. I tested it out with my friend who lives roughly 75km away using Super Mario World with the SNES9x2010 core on 2 android devices over cellular data, although our network provider(we're with the same one) doesn't allow port-forwarding so it wouldn't work completely over cellular data in order for it to work I had to set up a private VPN server on my desktop PC connected to my home internet connection called ZeroTier. Once we had the VPN server installed and the client from the google play store installed and connect to the server, it was no issues connecting.
For online multiplayer to be successful all players need to have the same copy of the ROM.
