Lore to get you in the know - Glitch
By soup and 1 collaborators
My second guide in the starbound lore-a-thon. This one will (attempt to) cover all the lore regarding the robotic Glitch species.

The Glitch
Those weird medieval robots called Glitch
If you're anything like me, the glitch seemed like the most interesting race and therefore you picked them as your very first to play as. If you didn't, you've still probably encountered these weird dudes around the universe just chillin' in their castles. Despite the glitch being super - advanced robots with terrain analyzation and (near) sentient thoughts, they are stuck in the medieval period. They were thought to be built aeons ago by an unknown ancient race to simulate a growing civilization, but due to a glitch in their programming they ended up getting completely stuck in an endless loop in which they could not grow past the medieval period. Most Glitch commoners are completely unaware of this, and just live their lifespan without knowing anything but their pre-programmed purpose or task. Since all glitch are pretty much constructed the same without any noticeable differences, hierarchy seems to be pretty obsolete. Guards are only distinguished by their armor and weapons, while the "king" or leader of a specific village/castle might just have gold armor and a crown, but possessing no authority over what the glitch actually do. This idea is represented more in a (sadly) removed Glitch codex titled: A note on Glitch Hierarchy but I feel is still very valid,

With the following -
A note on Glitch Hierarchy
by Hiraki Corale
Hylotl Adventurer
The Glitch - at least those who remain true to their roots - are unusual in that they have no hierarchy system. Their roles are interchangeable; a Glitch who may be a baker one day will be a stonemason the next. What is curious is the lack of vocal organisation.
In my time here, I've never heard the Glitch planning these roles, they simply happen, working like clockwork. Despite the species' somewhat backwards technological state, they're remarkably efficient.
They operate as a hivemind, but what's strange about that is the Glitch have developed self-awareness, yet these robots appear to CHOOSE this way of life, vehemently rejecting those - the Outcasts - who begin to think for themselves. Exciting!

So as you read, SOME select Glitch eventually develope a sense of self awareness. (Yeah, you, otherwise the game would be boring and you'd be an automato/currentcorn farmer)
But these Glitch are for some reason shunned by their home and community. This is depicted amazingly by Nevercake in his music video dedicated to glitch. It's old, but still valid. Like a bunch of Starbound stuff is. Lots of credit to him, even if he plays league of legends.
Now, the way glitch actually "thrive" is quite odd, they do die and procreate but not the way organic beings do. The "parent" Gltich actually just choose different parts (assumingly from other deceased Glitch, or fresh from a forge) for their "children". then enter a trace-like state where the two assemble the new Glitch silently and with a speed and skill not shown in everyday Glitch activities. This process takes several building sessions over the course of weeks, and is performed in private. - starbounder.org
Eventually, yes, a small percentage of glitch become fully self aware due to further glitches in their programming... wait what. How does one gain knowledge of the universe if their coding is intentionally supposed to be limiting, let alone broken?
Eh whatever, they're cool. Anyway, these individuals are of course shunned and exiled from their community units. They then take to the stars in any way they can, and I am assuming they build their own spaceships, because an actual medieval society shouldn't... have... access to spacecraft...
Ok I am starting to see a lot of holes in this. Lets just assume the self aware glitch pair up and/or create their own society and then proceed to colonize other planets. Wait then why are their still Glitch that are not self-aware among the universe?
Oh boy, I think a lore revision is in order. The self-awares have no purpose other than the one they made for themselves; to discover their original purpose. overall they are pretty cool with all their prefixing and stuff.
This guide was actually hard to make with a lot of lacking information.
Notable Figures -
-Baron, or "Baron 4c 69 67 68 74" -Count 01; Baron's nemesis.
-Axelbrass Fuseamp III; Had wagered with Baron for his land (and lost).

I apologize, But I noticed you sent me a friend request and must politely decline. I don't take friend requests from people I do not know IRL. It's nothing personal, and I hope you don't take it too harshly.

Golly I hadn't been able to do anything of this for literal entire years.

That's what we call life catching up to you.
Honestly would be nice to go back. But also surprised it is somehow a helpful thing that people stumble into and enjoyed.

Also thanks for your words @Venom13

Also, I've heard the song "Untill I break" And I like what it's about, but the lyrical flow and just overall tune of it is really really cringe, And it just BEING there kinda ruined the whole darn guide for me.

What the hell. I wrote one small guide with everything I knew about all the races, But you have one about four times as big as mine, JUST FOR ONE RACE. I look at all your guides and just feel very small. Still, I must compliment your knowledge of the Lore. You must be very Familliar with it. I have only been playing for about four months.

You chose the Glitch first because it looked the most interesting.
I chose the glitch first because I think robots are cool.
We are not the same.

Im pretty sure the glitch being a hivemind is legacy lore that no longer applies...

Here is what I think. The Glitch were being updated each era, but over the course of centuries their creators started to forget about them and left to find a more welcoming home, as the planet they existed on was slowly dying. The creators abandoned them, and the planet was torn apart by the Ruin, who was only a couple hundred years old. Some Glitch were destroyed instantly, while the others were launched off to distant planets and galaxies.

though now that I think of it, it would be hard to figure out the controls with middle aged knowledge
