N.S119 Riviera 1963 - Exeter to Newton Abbot Summer Saturday - hydraulics and Atlantic Coast Express

Beschreibung
A warm school holiday summer Saturday Class 42 hauled passenger, starting just north of Exeter.

Route: The Riviera Line in the Fifties
Duration: 42 minutes
Scenario: Standard
Extra DLC: Western Hydraulics Pack and the Rebuilt Bulleid Light Pacific

Take your 'Warship' Class 42 passenger into Exeter St Davids, and stop at the far end of the platform just beyond the Bulleid Pacific.

You will have to wait for it to pull the Atlantic Coast Express east and up the 1:37 incline to Exeter Central.

A Pannier comes down the incline and it too crosses your path.

You depart at 12:05:00.

You then go south west towards Newton Abbot. First stop - on this all stops holiday passenger, is Exeter St Thomas.

Then off to Exminster, which is quite busy today.

Next stops, Starcross, Dawlish Warren and then Dawlish. A lot of 'holiday makers' are walking the sea wall or having a swim.

The penultimate stop is Teignmouth, and then briskly off to Newton Abbot.

You will have to brake early, and stop at the end of Hackney sidings, and then again as you move slowly towards Newton Abbot.

With train movements all around, it is an exciting entry.

Then off - to stop at the far end of the platform.

To get the most out of this scenario I suggest accelerating as quickly as possible so: go to notch 5 and go to 25 mph (to avoid wheel slip) and then 100%.

Also I suggest braking quite severely - service up to 98% and then ease off, and then repeat after a few seconds to get speed down quickly, otherwise the brakes are a bit 'spongy'.

I hope you enjoy this GWR / Southern, early/mid Sixties Devon recreation.

Thanks again springer6. I was one of the holidaymakers as a 14 yo in 1964. I spent a summer school holiday week at Torquay with lots of train travel, to and from. Twice to Axminster during that week via Exeter Central (up the 1:37) to see Bulleid pacifics at 90-95mph. One of my fondest steam memories. My favourite: - being pulled by 60022 Mallard from Bristol to Swindon in 1963. Second favourite: - A Castle at speed on the through lines at Swindon - whistle blowing all the way through the station on a Sunday Swindon Works Open Day in 1962. Goose bumps even now thinking about it.

Great scenario , thanks. Good use of AI traffic and nice see all those 60s holidaymakers enjoying the sunshine ! Brought back memories of walking along the sea wall from Teignmouth towards Dawlish and watching the trains !

Hi Bill B. I had forgotten about this scenario. I thoroughly enjoyed creating this for me! I had been patiently waiting for a new 'Bulleid' DLC to be released (so anyone can buy it - unlike the older unrebuilt one not available now), to create a particular holiday I had. I must play it again too. Cheers.
