NieR: Automata Easter Eggs
By StockyBaldy
This is a simple collection of all easter eggs or secrets alike that either I or others have found while playing NieR: Automata. Again, a simple collection, which just so happens to be my first guide. Be warned that there is a high chance of getting certain things spoiled, so it is best to look at this guide only when you have beaten the game first.

Evidence of Facade

In the first NieR we visited a town called Facade. In Automata you see the machines in the desert wear clothing very similar to the people in Facade. More evidence of this theory is supported by the mask you find in the artifacts quest with the feminine mask, as everyone in the town of Facade wore masks.
The Pipe Returns

In the first NieR, in the prologue we used a weapon that was a simple, but effective pipe. In Automata you can acquire this same pipe as a weapon and the story behind the pipe weapon in Automata features Yonah and Nier in it too.
Beastlord Returns

In the orginal NieR, Beastlord was a greatsword usable by the player, and it even showed on the cover art of the game itself. In Automata, Beastlord can once again be used.
The Engine Blade

In NieR: Automata, the Engine Blade is directly drawn from Final Fantasy XV. The design, and even the weapon's story reference it.
The Lunar Tear

This same exact flower is found in the first NieR game.
The Song of the Ancients Returns
Many fans of the first game will find this one very obvious. During the part where 9S tries to hack his way into the tower with Devola and Popola, a remixed version of The Song of The Ancients from the first game will play.
Endings F to Z
This is likely of no suprise but all endings after E are considered funny/secret endings so in my book it technically counts as easter egg(s).
The Library Returns

During the final parts of the game when A2 and 9S infiltrate the tower, A2 comes across the same exact library from the first NieR. Besides being a carbon copy of the library from NieR, there is also many references to the first NieR through the hackable intel found within.
Kaine's Shack Returns

In the Emil's Memories sidequest (which is already full of references to the first game and such), you can find Kaine's shack surrounded by a large amount of Lunar Tears.
Mad Max Tanks

Goliath tanks in the desert bear an extremely uncanny resemblance to some of the cars in Mad Max like the one above. I find it a little bit weird that Yoko Taro would design one of his enemies to reference a western movie series but who knows, maybe someone at PlatinumGames was a fan and decided to put it in there.
Accord From Drakengard 3

In the resistance camp you can hear talk of someone named Accord. As many might already know or may not know, the NieR series is a spinoff of the Drakengard series, taking place both in the same universes. Accord was a character in Drakengard 3.
Persona 4 TVs?

The TV stack in the basement of the amusement park is eerily close to the many stacks of TVs in Persona 4. It could be a simple coincidence, but it comes off a little too similar to Persona 4 to not be noted here. It could also just as well be a reference to an episode of Cowboy Bebop.
Foreshadowing

Later in the game when you return to the factory, you might see this dead machine couple on the floor holding hands. Wait a minute...

While perhaps not technically an easter egg to some, it's little details like this in Automata that make it the experience it is.
The Revealing Outfit

In the DLC for NieR: Automata, you can get an outfit for 2B which looks almost exactly like Kaine's outfit from the original NieR, right down to the same pose.
The Young Man Outfit

In the DLC for NieR: Automata, 9S has the option to wear this outfit. In NieR Replicant, young NieR
wears these same exact clothes, right down to the same pose.
The Destroyer Outfit

In the DLC for NieR: Automata, A2 has the option to wear this outfit. In NieR Replicant, young NieR wears these same clothes, right down to the exact pose.
CEO Boss Fights

During the DLC you can secretly battle the CEOs of PlatinumGames and Square Enix in a level 85 fight. The rewards you get for beating them are quite funny, such as the Sato mask, the Matsude mask, CEO bullets, and record of CEO.
Preorder Content
If anyone has seen the preorder bonuses from this game then they will know of the many easter eggs attached to it.

Caught another one, some dialogue that happens early with 9S as you explore the city before you head to the camp, he mentions something about the plants being larger when the pod confirms that since the humans left the earth, that the plants have been abnormally large, he then asked "I wonder if there are any huge boars around?" which points to the giant boar you could ride in Replicant and the Boar boss

When you first land on earth, in the background you see a tall tower with a red top and another building collapsed into the side of it. Preeeeeeeetty damn sure that that's the same tower the last game ended in.

Is this post still relevant? I played Gestalt for the first time few weeks ago and I have noticed that some areas have almost the same layout. For example Northern Plains, there is this gap with wooden bridge. Go a little further and you arrive at the entrance to The Aerie, where of course is Kainé's shack. In Automata there is even wider gap with also wooden bridge and guess what. You arrive at the shopping mall, where Kainé's shack is. 9000-10000 years passed between the games so it wouldn't be illogical if the terrain has changed over the years. Same could go for the fight with the giant robot (and P-33 with shade) in the factory. The area is incredibly similar to the fight with So-Shi in route A of Automata

For the scene in the factory where the machine lifeforms throw themselves into the hot lava, I think it's a reference to the mass machine suicide chapter in Phoenix: Resurrection (Hi no Tori, Fukkatsu-hen) by Osamu Tezuka. This manga is an old classic in which there's mass machine suicide happening, and they all threw themselves into a pot of melted metal in a factory. Also the machine lifeform in nier that suicided looks incredibily similar to Robita in that manga.

Dang, there's more detail than I could've imagined in this game, thanks for the tip about the foreshadowing! Is it alright if I use your screenshot to add it to the guide?

In the factory in late game there are 2 robots laying on the ground in a pose that resembles 2b and 9s when 9s fights the 2b clones and has to take a clone's arm. Theres a sc of it on my profile

I Haven't seen this one anywhere else yet, but in one of the DLC arenas (The One Run By Resistance Members (I think It Is The One In Flooded City), when speaking to the shop for the second time, and then when exiting out, she references Resident Evil 4's Merchant. "I studied a relic of ancient civilization and apparently this is how merchants communicate, alright?"
The main referencing quotes being, "Got a selection of good things on sale, stranger!", and, "hehehe, thank you."
as the merchant of RE4 would say upon opening and exiting the shop
