Racing Arc (tutorial)

Description
This skin makes the arc look faster!

This mod is from my tutorial that teaches you how to skin! I hope it really helps the community and we see some great skins and mods coming out soon! If you arent intrested in skinning yourself, you can still use this mod for fun!

You can see the tutorial on YouTube!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipjqCKUSYU0&feature=youtu.be

Please remember that this is my first ever tutorial so give me some slack if it sucks.

Also if there are any problems with the mod itself, let me know!

Awesome job I appreciate the time you took to make this, and don't worry it didn't suck I thought it was great and it motivated my lazy ass to finally check out skinning which I've always wanted to do :)

@SiniStarR: Thanks for the Youtube-Tutorial.
Looks like it inspired and helped all lot of people here.
I discovered this mipmap-problem while creating my mod, i always played on low settings and my modded textures were also black or not visible.
[CYNICAL_MASS] and me had a little chat about this. Took quite a time to figure out the problem :D

Haha yeah as soon as I watched your tutorial afterward I was like "DOH!". YT annotation would be a good idea just in case anyone messes with the settings like I did lol. I've been seeing a lot of people talking about this issue in workshop mod comments, so it'll be good to spread the word some more to other modders.

That makes a lot of sense, Cynical! I really hope this was the problem. Did nobody notice it was on from the pic i put up below lol!

In any case I will update the Youtube video with annotations, if this has solved the problem.

Thanks!

For anyone that's getting the black texture problem:
I've been told by some people that my mods are black, while other people including me see them fine. The problem is MIP map settings being turned off in the NVIDIA export settings, make sure it's turned on (the way it is in this tutorial) and I believe that should fix everything!
I learned this from a fellow modder, and I just watched this tutorial now and I'm smacking my head for having MIP map off on all of my mods so far. I don't know much about MIP mapping, but to my limited understanding, it creates smaller low res versions of the textures, most likely used when the graphics in-game are set to medium or low... so without any MIP maps, the game just renders them without textures on these settings. This is why some people can see it (with graphics set to "high") and others can't (when their graphics are set to "medium" or "low". Hope this helps, guys! And good tutorial btw, SiniStarR!

I use gimp right now and have a dds reader for it, all the settings are the same so im not shure whats wrong. If you can a tutorial would help so we can see how u make the gun skin work... like if you do the view or reg dds file

Okay, I made a quick texture for the axe_view but I couldn't duplicate the black texture problem. I'm wondering if the dds exporter settings are wrong for you all. They should look like this.

Also don't use alpha textures.

No I havent checked in the viewer or turned off my mods, I test localy... but I never changed any defualt settings. I will let you know, when I do guns or axe they are also black in game, Do a tutorial on how you did your guns skins. Also release your spitfire rifle, looks amasing!

Not at all, what are the defaults?
SiniStarR  [author] Nov 6, 2012 @ 4:00pm
Did you change a setting in the dds exporter by accident?
