  4. It might take you guys some time to find the mods you want to test out though, just ignore most of the matrix mods (they are, most of the time, practically the same thing), you should look for something different

  6. Keep in mind there are a lot of unfinished mods in the collection and their titles are all over the place so it will take time to sort through them

  1. In this guide, for each mod, you will find mod overviews, download links and screenshots, and some features.
  2. The section numbers of this guide are just there to help me organize the guide easier, this is not a popularity contest, just a compilation of mods I would highly recommend people trying out.
  3. I will add as many images as possible to make sure everyone can check out the features of each mod before downloading.
  4. Some of the mods have their own ways to install, so I will add the authors' notes in the mod descriptions as well.

How to install Max Payne Mods
I'm using the mod Lightsaber as the example for this quick tutorial
  1. For each individual mod, the mod overviews link will take you to a page like this

  2. Same thing with the download link

  3. Once you finished downloading the mod, locate the mod files and extract them

Windows 10 Sounds x Widescreen Fix

After downloading the widescreen and sounds fix, copy and paste the files to your steam Max Payne folder.

Steps to follow:
  1. Library / Home / Search "max"
  2. Right click on Max Payne / Manage / Browse Local Files

  3. - Copy the mod_title.mpm to the game directory, the mod_movie.bik to the movies folder
    - Copy and paste the files in the sounds and widescreen fix to the game directory

  4. When launching the game, pick the mod you want to play in Choose Customized Game, then press Play


Cheats:
There are a lot of unfair x unfinished mods in Max Payne so you might need to use cheats to get to the end of them

  1. Library / Home / Search "max" / Right Click max payne / Properties
  2. Type "-developer -developerkeys" in Launch Options of General tab

  3. Steam / Settings / In Game tab / change your screenshot shortcut keys to something different than F12
  4. In game (not in menu), press F12 to open the console, type in the following cheat codes:
    - god, getallweapons and getinfiniteammo to activate god mode, unlock all weapons and get infinite ammo for all weapons
    - In some mods, there are doors that will simply block your progress, to get past them, type in "noclip", once you're done remember to switch back to normal using "noclip_off"
    - Double press F12 to close the console and return to the game.
01 - Lightsaber

Descriptions:
- Lightsaber 4.0 is a Max Payne conversion into the Star Wars universe.
- Original levels were done by zephyrin_xirdal and StratonAce.
- HairlessWookie worked on some great particle effects, including lightsabers, laser cannons, and even force lightning.
- This mod also includes some aspects of Ken Y's Kung Fu mod: jumping moves/flips

NOTES:
- You have force Push and force Jump in this mod, use them to get out of certain scenarios
- The Star Wars guns are awesome to test out

02 - Matrixed Reality Nightstrike Edition

Descriptions:

04 - Max Payne @ University

Descriptions:
  1. Max Payne @ University is a Total Conversion for the first Max Payne game.
  2. The main setting is the real life premises and surrounding areas of the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department a.k.a CEID in Patras, Greece.
  3. This modification integrates the Kung Fu 3 Deluxe Engine (by Kenneth Yeung, MrUniq) and the Enemy Kung Fu (by Ghasp) engine.
  4. It also features 5 level maps, some new weapons and has a new standalone story for Max.
  5. The story unfolds through cut-scenes, graphic novels and the in-game actions of the player.
  6. Moreover, at one point the game will allow you to make a choice that will affect the final outcome of the story.

- You can play it on the 3 difficultly levels, and on New York Minute mode as well, which should keep it alive a bit longer.
- This will be my last single map for Max Payne for quite a while, as I'm working on the Dodge This mod. There might be more Backstreets maps, but I won't be making them as I'm too busy.

43 - Chain Maps Project

Descriptions:
- The Chain-Mapping Project was an idea thought up by Joonas on the forums of Max Payne Headquarters.
- The initial idea was for several mappers to combine work into one package to see the diversity of styles, detail and overall work of practicing mappers in the Max Payne community.
- 10 of the initial 14 mappers came through and produced a room or more, which were then compiled and packaged for your pleasure.
- This should offer some entertainment to those who have played the living crap out of themselves with the original Max Payne game.
- It also proves that the community isn't just a bunch of lazy slobs who don't do anything and it especially proves that the community isn't dead. Have fun and stay in school

- Those looking for a continuation of the movie might be disappointed. This is a new story with a new Blade Runner that takes place many years after the events in the movie.
- The final version of Evolution should contain about 12 levels, new enemies, new cut-scenes and lots of speech all set to a Blade Runner theme.
- Evolution will be not so much about combat and gunplay (although there will be plenty of it ) as it will be about mood, atmosphere and detective work

My account got hacked? What to do?
[UPDATED 15-03-2022]

Okay, my account recently got hacked by a Russian person. How do I know this? When I can't log in to steam yesterday after several attempts, I got suspicious, by clicking on I forgot my password, I saw my recovery email was changed to ****.ru.
Luckily, I was able to get my account back through Steam support and I will include this quick tutorial on my guides so everyone knows what to do and prepares for the worst. From what I've seen, a lot of people have become victims of these hacks recently.

This is my message to the unknown hacker:
"I know the war is affecting everyone in Russia, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, people also worked hard to have money to buy games just so they can get away from life for a little while.
- There are no excuses for your behavior, you just got greedy and want easy money. What were you trying to do? Were you going to sell this steam account to the highest bidder for some quick buck?
- If you ask people for help, just maybe, someone kind enough will provide assistance. But by trying to steal from others, you're just making it worse for your own people.
- You don't want to get isolated even more now, especially when you need help the most. So please be better and do something else, something productive with your life."

Anyway, let's get back to the main topic.
- STEP 1: Click on Help / Steam Support
- STEP 2: Choose My Account
- STEP 3: Choose Data related to your steam account
- STEP 4: Scroll down, choose Contact steam support
- STEP 5: Provide the details so Steam staff can help you out
  • You might want to provide more proof to the staff to prove you're the actual owner of the account.
  • In my case, I even made a 2nd account just to ask them for their assistance.
  • I got the password to log in to my account from steam directly, just 1 DAY, what a miracle. But that might not be the case for you, I know it sucks, but please be patient.

I GOT MY ACCOUNT BACK, WHAT TO DO NOW?
In this section, I will share with you what I do to protect my account. If you guys know more, please comment and let everyone know. I will include your name as the original author here.
  1. Click on Steam/Settings. Change your password, email contact address, add more security layers to your account.
  2. The passwords you change should be kept offline, you can write them down in a notebook or something like that.
  3. Delete auto-fill forms if you're using browsers like Chrome, Opera... to log in to steam. I used this to write steam guides but now no more. I think that was what got me hacked. I never clicked on any odd links sent by strangers and somehow, I still got hacked.

Just wanted to say this guide is so awesome! So much Max Payne 1 mods that I thought we lost forever when Levels4You went down (years ago).
