I really don't want to be harsh on the game, I wanted to like it but it's just not for me. don't get me wrong, the game is really pretty and the story might be also really interesting, but I can't seem to force myself to play long enough to discover it. I am sure there are plenty of people that do enjoy it but here are my reasons for the thumbs down:

-the controls are very clunky, almost feels like you are walking on ice most of the time. This problem immediately gets solved when you encounter a ladder, as your character will then decide to stick to the ground like a piece of gum and not climb down it until you position yourself perfectly on top of it (which proves bit difficult when you are sliding all over the place)
-as the steam page says there is full controller support. except you can't rebind your keys and the default mapping is really uncomfortable to play with.
-the game has a curse system which it mildly annoying. to my knowledge there is nothing you can do to prevent from gaining a curse, or to trigger getting one. the longer you keep going the higher the chance you will get one (and you can grow quite the collection of them)
-game is a rogue-like combined with metroidvania, aka you have a map that never changes, but if you die you get booted right back to the beginning hub and lose all of your active items, weapons, armor and spells.
there are certain points on the map that unlock fast travel for you though, so I guess that is nice.
-bosses. to my knowledge there is about 19 of them. except you don't even have to fight them (I only played about 3 hours of this game, and I only needed to beat the tutorial boss in order to progress. I found out that some of them you can just walk past their room and never return.)
now the rooms are all designed to be traversed from one side to the other (depending on how they are positioned on the map) so backtracking to a boss later doesn't work in most cases or is awkward to do. especially if you have a teleport point discovered after the boss arena.
-now this is mostly a personal gripe, but if I am given a platformer game, I expect to have a jump button. there is no jump in this game.

all of these should be taken more like "first impressions" than a review, since I only sank 3ish hours into the game. though if in first 3 hours I haven't found anything worth coming back to, then I don't think it will get any better from here on out.
