This remaster is another example of a cash grab from a developer. This game contains many bugs and glitches that are not present in the original game. In certain parts of this game, the textures flicker very noticeably and affect large areas. The visual downgrades ruin the visual anesthetic and atmosphere of the original. The gameplay is replaced with the inferior Last Light gameplay. Any fan of 2033 should play the original.

This game used to be great, cannot recommend now. Valve completely ruined this game and they dont seem to want to fix it.

It is nice to see a return to the mechanics from TDD but the narrative is ultimately the weakest point of the game, being worse than both TDD and AMFP. The voice actors for all of the characters did a very good job tho, especially the protagonist. The lore is expanded upon from TDD and it is handled mostly well. There is also some good callbacks to the TDD which I appreciated. My one really big problem with this game is that it really pulls the rug out from under you too many times and adds padding after padding. The game also has some very uninspiring monster designs consisting of ghouls and wraiths. The fear system in the game has incorporated "fear flashes" that show when the player is in darkness for a period of time. After too long, the player character will go insane and just run off to another part of the map. The fear flashes begin to frustrate after the first few times and the lack of death takes away much of the tension in the game. The game does have well designed areas however that makes up for much of the shortcomings. I remember playing TDD about a year or so after it came out and watching the youtube lets plays from pewdiepie and markiplier. It is a shame that this one could not stick the landing.
