Early Access Review
I'd never played the Blitzkrieg series, though I had heard and seen a lot about it, and upon seeing this I thought now was the time to jump on the bandwagon. First impressions were positive; a decent UI, easy controls and gorgeous graphics (for what it is anyway), after the 1st mission and the invasion of Poland began I barely advanced into the town and units started getting stuck on pieces of rubble, refusing to attack and generally poor performance.

I just assumed this was single player bug and decided to jump onto the MP. This was where my opinion of the game plummeted like an asteroid dropping through the atmosphere. WHERE THE HELL WAS THE BRITISH ARMY?!?! Anyway, after going to get a drink and having calmed down a little I, somewhat begrudgingly, selected "the Allies" (Nival, hear me out for a moment; IT'S NOT THE ALLIES IF IT'S ONLY THE AMERICANS!!!) First look and clash of clans deja vu started flooding back and whereupon I read through the chat box, others were complaning about this that and the other. I went to have shufti and see what units there were, and lo and behold! ONE BRITISH UNIT! The Churchill. With a dirty great big star on it (Yes I know that's the sign of the Allied exp. force) I couldn't even be arsed to play a battle by this point. The negative waves were too much. So I've gone and applied for a refund. Needless to say, I think I'll leave this alone for a good long time.

Update: Now "SLIGHTLY" Recommended
So, I wrote that *cough* review, a fair old while ago now, and given the discount which has fluttered along, I thought that, because I'm naive, that'd give Blitzkrieg another bash. And my oh my how it has come along over the past 9 months. For starters, the gameplay has been smoothed out substantially. It's not perfect, by any means, but units no longer get stuck, campaigns have been added and tweaked and such until they're now in reasonably enjoyable state and just general adjustments here and there to make it playable.
Now you might think I'm being a bit harsh, well to tell you the truth, I've been waiting for a WWII RTS game which has enough elements of realism (Tell me on what earth a 37mm can pen a Valentine from the front. I'd REALLY like to know), but retains a good arcade style to it that it can appeal to the mass audience, for YEARS. No don't say Company of Heroes 2, that game is all about humping the fuel point long enough and hard enough until you win through sheer numbers and unbalanced units. Sudden Strike 4 looks decent enough, but the lack of technical gameplay doesnt avail enough for me.
Anyway, back to Blitzkrieg 3; The game STILL retains some rather intolerable, if your reasonably learned on WWII, aspects. Such as nations only being the US of A, The USSR and Germany (Tell me what is wrong with that list, I'll wait) and what appears to be the bread and butter of this game; Clash of Clans, Blitzkrieg edition. Ok, perhaps I'm reading this entire game wrong from the start, but it's just my view. And the ATROCIOUS voice "acting". But other than that, this game has done ok to pull itself out from the rubble of a Lancaster bombing I gave it last year, but as a nice little distraction until that perfect WWII RTS arrives *cough* Steel Division *cough*, this will tide you over nicely until then.
(I cannot speak for the MP as my limited time of repurchasing it hasnt allowed me to play it yet)
I would recommend getting it when on sale. Even for 22.99, it's still marginally unpolished state really marks it off for more of a 15 quid game.

So. Unity of Command. A little strategy game set around Operation Barbarossa which harkons back to the old days of strategy gaming where you didn't need the reflexes of a four year old on a sugar rush. Very beginner friendly, but not so much in skill required to play.
As much as you might feel the desire to charge towards Leningrad and damn every Soviet who stands in your way, I'm afraid you'll have to hold your horses there. There's just a bit more to this little gem that just clicking and attacking. You must manage your supply lines which stretch so many tiles from the the rail lines and supply depots. Along with trying to not be too reckless with your panzer and infantry brigades as you only have so many reinforcements you can call in.

However, with careful use of units, supply management and using your dive bombers and bridging units to full affect, you should be well on the road to victory.

Oh, and the music is priceless. The couple of tracks which loop over, will send shivers down your spine. If a piece of music doesn't portray the hard slog the Soviets and Germans endured on the Eastern Front, then I have no idea what does.

Easily worth the £14.99 price tag.

Call of Duty and Battlefield? Hah! Those are for babies. REAL men (and masochists) play Men of Valo(u)r.

Throughout my whole life I don't think I've ever found staring at a political pie chart more intriguing and exciting.

What Company of Heroes 2 should have been. Far more intricate, but more rewarding combat. Far more tactical commander choices. Tanks can actually alter the course of battle. And finally, the poor sodding Canadians can actually play a role in battle aside from artillery support. 10/10 would amass an army of Canadian infantry again.
