This has been one of the most fun I've had in an open world RPG in a long time. Just the Pawn system alone is enough for me to highly recommend it to others because it's really unique and fun. It's something that makes you feel like you're connected to your friends in a single player game just by having a character made by them placed into your world. It's so much fun going to them and sharing the feats and exciting things that happen in my game because of something that they created. Hideaki Itsuno created Dragons Dogma as a way to return to the days of gaming forum discussions/ lunch table talks. Which kind of creates a connected feeling with other that you know and strangers that you meet throughout it. It's been so much fun feeling like I truly have had unique encounters that feel like that have just happened to me and it's really refreshing being able to share stories about a game and there not being someone else that is able to say, "oh yeah I did that quest too" and they can say line for line the identical thing that happens to them.

But there is a downside to this, some of the quests have been really great and I can solve them and the happy chemicals in my brain then goes off and I feel really good about it. But other's I cannot logically tell how you can figure them out on your own without just getting lucky that you ended up in the right place or you have a pawn that can lead you across the map to the exact spot you have to go. It's totally possible that I just missed a clue placed somewhere and i'm okay with that because I went into this game really wanting a game that doesn't hold your hand much but I totally understand if that is off putting for others because it's sort of easy to accidentally soft lock some of the side quests without even trying to and it can be frustrating.

On top of that I do wish the connected world between others felt more prevalent in the story and world building. The first game did such a good job of making you feel like you're apart of one of many cycles and had lots of moments were other players were apart of the story, involved in the game play, and bosses like the Ur Dragon. But I expect this game to still have an updated future if it follows the path that Dragons Dogma 1 vs Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen followed so hopefully there is more news on that.

The moment to moment game play has been some of my favorite. The combat is a good in between point that mixes some of Final Fantasy 16 and Devil May Cry 3-5 that feels really good. I've never been bored in an encounter because I feel like I always have new options to try based on locations and Pawns do a really good job of auto combo'ing into some of your skills. It feels like any party mix is viable though I never don't have a mage for healing but the other 3 members I've been able to hot swap without much issue. Also taking damage and having part of your max health drop makes every journey between towns just feel extra intense because it's rare that you get to the other side without losing a good chunk. But they do have camp sites that you can rest at very often to restore that which does feel a bit odd with the idea of the max health system, But I try my best to only sleep at night and push through.

A weird thing that I really like is the in game economy. I've played a lot of rpgs and there is normally a game play loop of, go to town, buy 99 potions, the best equipment, and then leave. Then eventually you get to the 9,999,999 max amount of money and you're fine. But in Dragons Dogma 2 I have very rarely had a time where I can buy all the best equipment for me and my pawn and I have to decide what would be best and I think that's really nice. Most equipment is still bigger number better character so eventually you get the same end result but it's refreshing feeling like I have to work for every step of equipment instead of just skipping tiers because of having money.

Lastly performance, definitely struggles often which is a shame, I super recommend if you're going to pick up the game to use the demo for the character creator so that non of that time is counted towards the game and then buying the game and trying to see how your computer handles it as you get to the capital city. For the most part that is the place that runs the worst so it could give you an idea of what you'll bump into. The game also weirdly looks super good in a lot of places but than kind of meh in others. I've had scenes that look like I can print them out and put them on the wall and others were the textures are pretty flat but that's most games anyways.

As a whole Dragon's Dogma 2 has been everything that I personally have wanted it to be. I'm so happy that I'm playing it during ground floor period of the game when everyone is still figuring it out, when I have a lot of friends to talk to about it, and when mechanics aren't completely figured out and listed out. Nobody I knew played the first game and I went through that all by myself and then Dark Arisen came out and I started to get to share and tell the stories about my adventure with people that finally got into it but for me it lost a bit of that magic since it would be my second or third time playing through it so I already knew the outcomes of the things that my friends would be going through. Now with this game I feel like I can alongside everyone grab onto the magic of the unknowns and be apart of the community that is creating and discussing the early times of this game that will eventually be used to help anyone that plays it in the future. I feel like some of my, what normally would be mindless walks from town to town in other games, in this game, will stick with me for a very long time just because I feel like they are unique experiences that I by myself can say happened to me and nobody else and just for a moment I can return to being a kid in school going up to the lunch table to tell everyone about my discovers and things that happened to me in a game like Hideaki Itsuno intended.

Game Good

Using AI for voices instead of actual voice actors bad.

I came into playing this game with no idea expectations or idea of what it was. I heard about the mix of cyberpunk and fantasy which got me interested but after looking into it more I was worried about the amount of reading there was because I have limited time to play. But....it's completly worth it. Sure there was a lot of reading to it still but it was interesting and kept me from clicking through everything. All the character were interesting, the lore, and back stories too. My only complaint is that I didn't get one of the characters better outcomes at the end because I didn't want to press them into talking about their past but apperently if you don't your relationship with them doesn't grow.

But by the end of it I really enjoyed everything. Obviously not being able to turn the camera caused a few issues, along with some mis clicks wasting AP. But I understand that it would be a lot more work to try and create every enviroment from every angle.

100% worth the $10.

Has a Castlevania 3 vibe and it's nice to see a new game come out in 2018 in this type of style. I originally was worried that I wouldn;t like the character swapping and that it would be too complicated but everything flows really well, even after getting the fourth member.

It offers a veteran and casual option. Casual mode takes away lives and the knockback when being hit. Veteran is more for what fans of the Castlevania series is use to. I wouldn't say it is as hard as some of the games that this gets compared to, I was able to perfect the first two bosses after a short time, but it's a nice break from some of the more modern games that are coming out now.

I enjoy it a little bit, have a few hours of gametime. Only bought it on ps4 and PC....and all the dlc....both times....and then bought it again for two of my friends so I had people to play with.
