Finding Paradise: The Review
"With a friend like you...

People say that they cried more in To the Moon than Finding Paradise. I suppose things like that truly are objectives.
Finding Paradise isn't what I would call the "perfect" game, but it got me real good.

The Negatives:
- Graphics and performance: As with many other games in the Sigmund series (I know they call it the 'To the Moon' series, but come on), it's not very graphically impressive, while also being quite subpar in terms of performance. Scenes would slow down to a crawl if there are multiple amounts of choice boxes present on the screen. It's nothing gamebreaking, but it's worth noting anyway.

- Controls: If you plan on using your mouse to play, the pathfinding is atrocious. Unnecessary zigzags throughout the map when you just want to go straight to the objective. Even clicking the objectives can be bothersome, especially if something's in your way. All in all, mouse movement isn't really doing this game any favour. Stick with the arrow keys/WASD.

The Positives:
- The characters: Neil and Eva are just as charming as they were in To the Moon. Colin also comes off as that sort of relatable shy kid with no friends (unless that's just me) in his early days, and I love that. It took me awhile to warm up to Sofial and Asher was just there. Other throwaway characters are mostly there for comedic effect (and they work pretty well!), but let's not ignore the elephant in the room. Actually, let's ignore the elephant in the room because that would be a pretty big spoiler.

- The story: Hoo boy. Remember when I said that things are objective? To the Moon never made me cry. It moved me, it made me feel things, but I didn't bawl out at any point. Finding Paradise? Two times. Other than those few moments of heartstrings, the story itself is still quite eye-catching. It starts off pretty linear with all the things that you'd expect, but then it sends you down this roller coaster of revelations that would make you laugh if it didn't make you cry first. Still, the signs were all there so it didn't feel like a hoodwink.

- The music: THEY'RE JUST SCALES, HOW COULD IT BE SO PRETTY? But in all seriousness, most of the soundtrack range from 'yeah, it's fine' to a pure kick in the balls (the good kind, of course). The "song" takes the cake, though. If you don't like it, then you have no soul. Laura Shigihara is a treasure and I hope she continues to spread her work.

- The humor: Finding Paradise is as sad as it is funny. Most of the comic effect is from Neil and Eva, but the background characters actually pull through, maybe more than they did in To the Moon. I did not expect a Godfather reference, but here we are.

- The price: The game is cheap, especially with how wide (not long, the game's quite short) the content is. Get it full price, if you can. Maybe a small sale if you're really unable to. Freebird deserves your money.

The Eh:
- The Puzzle: It just exists to pad out the experience a bit. Is it bad? No. Is it necessary? Not really.

Final Verdict:
To the Moon 2 is, for me, a clear step up from the predecessor in terms of characters and writing. Some things have regressed, like the music overall, but if you enjoyed To the Moon then this one will surely satisfy the itch that game left you with. If you've never played either games, do it. Maybe play To the Moon first, since there are subtle references to that game here, but it's ultimately up to you. Definitely check out both games, especially since Freebird's cooking up a sequel(?) to the game.

10/10: Essential Purchase

As a side note, anyone know what the bloody heck is wrong with Neil?
