I've played the non VR version for quite a while, however this one is definitely not recommended from my point of view.
The melee system is horrendous, the weapon animations have a floating feeling making it seem like you are fighting with balloons, no haptic feedback which seems like a big oversight, simply flicking your wrist registers as an attack with the accompanying sound as if you just took a giant swing, two handed weapons are linked with only one of the controllers and makes it feel like you are still wielding a one handed weapon, blocking is not that reliable. Magic on the other hand seems a bit more fun.
The menus are bad, if you have an xbox controller plugged in, it will default to that control scheme for navigating, which on top of it all is not explained at all, the window clips through objects in the world, meaning if you are in front of a door and press the menu button you risk not seeing half of the screen.
Also, poor optimization, after about one or two minutes in the game I start to get video stutter when looking around, this goes away after restart but comes back after a couple of minutes of gameplay consistently; even encountered an extremely big issue with the graphics options: when disabling the FOV filter for turning (this doesn't happen when disabling the filter for moving) it makes all menus invisible, both the start and in-game ones and I had to reinstall the game, although in hindsight I think it would've worked by deleting the skyrimprefs.ini file and running integrity check since I couldn't find the corresponding lines in any of the ini files for this option.
I am seriously considering this for my first steam refund.

Almost complete rewrite of original review. I had initially given it a thumbs down because of a major issue with the inverted controls applied to the combat UI.
Although it lasted for a few months without much info from the devs about it, this was eventually resolved with the addition of separate Y axis invert controls for 3rd person and combat; yes, I use inverted vertical to look around in both FPS and 3rd person games, and when it came to combat, it made it so I couldn't play KC:D anymore.

Now that this has also been fixed, there are still a few minor flaws, but those are hardly noticeable, especially when compared to the good things.
The world is well crafted – the attention to detail is amazing - the characters are interesting, voice acting is overall good, diverse quests. Finally after a long time a game where I actually learned the world map and didn’t spend my travel time looking at a minimap in the corner of the screen, quicksave temptation free (if you so choose now) and being the very first game where I actually bothered with alchemy and actually enjoyed this skill.
Also, leave it to East Europeans to accurately portray the stages of getting drunk, the first time I downed an alcohol in the game I did not notice any immediate effects so, as you do in real life, I had another and may or may not have had a third; by the time I actually realized I’d gotten drunk it was already too many too late.
I don't know about the two DLCs as I do not own these (yet), but only the base game is more than worth it, especially if you like RPGs.
