All in all, I am a soft mark for this kind of game. A VR MMO is pretty much exactly what I'd like to see. If it handled any one part of being an MMO competently then I'd be all over it. If the combat felt good I'd just enjoy it for that. Were the game visually appealing, it could be fun to simply explore an open world with others and see the sights. Could it manage a feeling of progression with equipment and stats that felt meaningful.

It fails on every mark, everything positive I can say about this game is just stuff that comes naturally out of it being a multiplayer VR game and is in no way benefited from being in this game in particular. And considering some of those other multiplayer VR games also have at least pretty okay gameplay and in some cases are free, it makes this game's $40 pricetag seem ludicrous.

If you're like me, and you really want a VR MMO, you see this as the only option and you think "Well I may as well try it." Don't. That's what they are depending on. This was made to be "The First VR MMO" for a reason. They set the price that high for a reason. They know there is demand for a VR MMO and rushed to make this to fill that demand without any capacity to produce a high quality product. People who have extreme nostalgia for some early MMOs may get some enjoyment out of this, but by no means is it worth anything more then $5-$10 if that.

It's hard when you want something and you at least want to give it the benefit of the doubt. Don't. I made the mistake. It sucks, you'll have to wait for someone else to make it. It could be years. Still not worth it.

Agree. I just can't explain how this game feels more like a Unity/UE tech demo over a game. A HUD maybe would have made the game easier to stomach, or just a combat system that worked >75% of the time and felt nice to play. The questing is just so *bad*, i found myself not even being able to understand what im supposed to do, despite each log being an entire mothereffing book. LITERALLY.

I agree with you, refunded before they could keep my money: just wasn't engaging enough.

That's fine if you enjoyed it, but I've played enough MMOs to know where to look, where to do research, and while it isn't much time those 6 hours are from before and after the re-release and honestly I was actually really excited for the re-release. But I found the core gameplay to be simply unacceptable both pre and post "Reborn."

I'm glad you think the game is fun, and that you found some friends in the community. But I think those two are more likely to be related then anything about the actual quality of the game. Any game can be fun when played with friends. You have no need to try to defend the game.

I tried *really* hard to like this game, I really wanted to, those 6 hours were an absolute struggle to get through, and this is from someone who normally can play an mmo for days at a time It's not entirely the devs fault, there's just no competition in VR MMOs which means anyone who really wants a MMO will try it. And for me it failed on EVERY gameplay aspect.

I think you're extremely wrong, first of all, you only have 6 hours of gameplay in this game, this is an MMO, you probably exprienced about 1% of what's actually in there, there are 8 classes, a ton of things to do and most importantly, this game is an EXPANSION of the older one, they went through the trouble of making an entire new game, for FREE (to whoever had the old one), because they wanted a game that was NOT rushed out, as someone who played the old version for 100 hours, and the new one for 20 or so so far, I can tell you that the price tag is a steal for a VR game this good that gives you so much playtime on it, sure it might not have the best graphics, but gameplay is fun, fishing is fun, and the community is absurdly amazing. for anyone reading this review, the game is great. buy it.
