I'd recommend buying it when it's on sale (for like, $2) and then change it to the dev build in the "beta" tab

the devs have been putting a lot of work into the game the past 5 yrs (without pay) and it shows. the story is still a steaming pile of crap but just go into it not taking it seriously and you'll enjoy it
